Beschreibung
The project is the vision and creation of Kyveli and Yorgos , two dance artists and movement educators from Greece who envisioned a wooded piece of land as a meeting place for moving and sensing experiences. The concept of the place arose from a deep need to reconnect with nature and to meet a community of similar interests and quests. The idea was conceived in October 2021 when there was nothing but trees on the land and by the summer of 2022, a camp was ready, and the first season became a reality! None of what followed would have been possible without the help of friends and family who supported us every step of the way.

This summer is going to be our third summer for the place which is growing more year after year.

For this season, you can join us during May in one of the following periods.

Our project
It is a hosting space for retreats, educational programs, and artistic residencies.

Our vision is to create a meeting point for people and practices that value nature, honor sensorial experiences, welcome diverse corporealities, and dare to reflect through others. Our deepest desire is to grow slowly yet firmly, like a cypress tree, rooting deeply in a sustainable approach that respects and nourishes otherness. We aspire to be part of a ‘forest-like’, broader ecosystem, alongside like-minded individuals and their trajectories

About the village of Neochori:
Neochori is a mountain village (300m) of Lefkada, about 5km from Nidri. Serenity and impressive view as well as absence of shops are distinguishing features of the village. Instead, there is plenty of green, four springs and a number of paths which are taken care of by the village community every year.
This village was once abandoned by the locals, when they gradually began to approach the coastal areas. Years later, around the late 70's and early 80's, it was rediscovered by people looking for a quiet place close to nature. Somehow it started to attract hippies, artists, people from different parts of the world and finally a community was created.
Today only a few of the families that first settled there remain in the village, but new ones have come, creating a mixture of people and cultures. In recent years, cultural association has been activated and the old school of the village has been renovated, where various activities take place, such as exhibitions, presentations, film screenings, festivals, seminars, etc. Especially in the summer months the village hosts a lot of people from different parts of the world.

We hope that our center will bring life to our village and become a meeting point for artists, educators and practitioners from all over the world!

Kultureller Austausch und Lernmöglichkeiten
We shall offer in exchange

• Meals and accommodation - traditional Greek cuisine and a lovely staying in nature!

• Movement and dance practices on our open-air platform.

• Activities such as herbal walks, learning how to roll out pastry to bake delicious, traditional pies, and cultural events in the village of Neochori.

• Small trips on the island during evenings and free days – hiking to the waterfall, hiking to nearby villages, to the beach, etc.

• Learning more about our project and why we believe in and promote dance as a practice of embodiment.

• Meeting a community from all over the world with dance artists, and somatic movement practitioners.

Kyveli's father lives more than 35 years in the village and he is familiar with local herbs, so we can arrange walks for herbal collection. You will also have the opportunity to meet a community of people, those who live in the village, as well as the other volunteers. We can ensure a friendly and respectful environment, in a really beautiful village in Greece, and lots of creative energy vibes!
Arbeit
🌿 For the period 1 - 20 May 2024

For all that we plan to do this spring there is no need for professional experience on behalf of the workawayers, yet if that is the case it's great!

This year’s season begins in May with preparations for the space and some important upgrades!

We are planning to:

• Clean and prepare the space – During last winter, the place was closed, so we need to clear bushes, prune, clean, set up shadings, and put PVC on the practicing platform.

• Build a warehouse – Working with stones as the area has plenty of them!

• Assist a blacksmith in making and installing a roof for shading our practicing platform.

• Establish a proper garden for fresh veggies – Dig and prepare the earth, plant seeds, and plants.

• Construct a treehouse – Working with wood, cutting, cleaning, and painting.

• Prepare meals for the volunteering team and friends – assisting Kyveli with meal preparation.

We will work in small groups of up to 8 people for maximun of 5 hours per day, and we will distribute tasks based on each individual’s capacity, skills, and willingness!

Two 5-meter Bell Tents for Three People Each: These tents can accommodate three people in each tent. They include mattresses and bed linens for each person.

Four 4-meter Bell Tents for Two People Each: These tents can accommodate two people in each tent. Similarly, mattresses and bed linens are provided for each person.

Volunteers can choose their roomates.

🌿 For the periods 29 June - 30 July 2024, 04 August - 1 September and 31 August - 30 September

Simple private camping tent in the campsite with mattress, pillow and bed linens, shaded and safe spot in the campsite, access to campsite's facilities.

The area offers a number of paths to explore surrounded by lush green nature.

A great sightseeing nearby you can go on foot is the famous waterfalls of Nidri. There you can have a cold bath, or just enjoy the sound of falling water.

Furthermore, in case someone comes on their own vehicle, and some afternoon wants to leave village and have an experience of the rest of the island and its worldwide known beaches, we will be more than happy to provide them with useful information for the island and its beautiful spots. If you also want to rent a car or a motorcycle we can easily help you out. There is no public transport from and to the village, usually someone from the village might be able to drop you off to Nidri, but if that is not possible we can definetelly call a taxi on request for you (taxi fare is about 15 euros to Nidri, the nearest seaside village).
