Greetings from our organic farming community, located forty five minutes north of Albany in the fertile Battenkill Valley. Our family warmly invites you to experience our unique life of friends and togetherness. We are situated on over one hundred acres of gently rolling hills and lush river bottom land. Growing a wide assortment of vegetables and herbs for a CSA and our own community use, heritage breed chickens, milking a small herd of dairy goats, raising sheep, maintaining the beautiful grounds of the estate, operating a cottage industry, and running a small deli in town keep us busy and open for new friends year round. In addition to the normal farm crew and volunteers, we also have a great time doing the "community night" in the field, with everyone coming out for one evening a week to join in the work and reward of getting our hands in the soil. Guests are frequent all year round and we would love to have you join us. Whether you come for a day or come to stay, our hearts and our farm will always have room for more. Update: Spring 2013 The ground is warming up, the seeds are being planted, the animals are birthing!-the pace is quickening for the season! Area: near Tavira, Algarve

Hello we are, Jim & Sue, who live in a beautiful home within two acres of land. We follow organic practices and have had a few seasons of produce. We live in one of the most beautiful parts of the Algarve. Our home overlooks a valley and we see hills and valley's all around. We want to live much more self sufficiently. We have olives and carob trees and we grow vegetables in beds and also in a tunnel. We need people who have some experience in gardening and can dig and clear land. Some of the land is quite rocky. The closest town is Tavira, which is about 6 km away. The sea is about the same distance. We have bikes if you want to see some of the area whilst you are here. Meals are freshly made and eaten in the house or outside if the weather is not too hot or cold. We lean towards vegetarianism but do eat meat and fish. We offer good accommodation, a room in the house or in a modern camper van, 3 meals, for 4-5 hours work a day, for 5 days, also help out with cleaning up and food preparation. Our expectation is that you will start work between 8:30am and 9:00am and work for about 4-5 hours. Jim was a computer consultant and Sue worked in International Development. Area: Mallorca

Welcome to our small finca in the centre of the beautiful Mediterranean island of Mallorca. We have approx 4 acres, on which we predominantly grow almonds and figs. We also have a few carob trees, and a variety of citrus trees. Having lived here for 7 years we are still in the midst of reforming and enlarging the original house which is about 100 years old. There is never a shortage of tasks that need to be done, even though we have had professional help with most of the building. We have now realised that we need some help around the place if I am to stop going grey! As hubby (Bob) works full time (we have a marine engineering business); and I (Pat) do contract work on events that often takes me abroad to work; to pay the bills some of the tasks on the ever increasing list, are slipping the net. You need to like dogs (we currently have 5 boisterous hounds) and cats (6); plus 2 pigs, chickens and 5 sheep - and we need to fence off more areas and build appropriate shelters for them. Apart from the regular tasks around the finca and house we also have a large number of boats and numerous classic Land Rovers in various stages of being dismantled or as restoration projects. Basically if you have common sense, a mature attitude and a willingness to help then please contact us. We are about 2km from Sineu, which has very easy train access to Palma and occasional buses to other local villages, and has a multitude of bars, shops and restaurants, post office, medical centre, and one the island’s largest markets every Wednesday. We are not listed as organic but do not use any chemicals on the land and endeavour to be as eco and environmentally friendly as possible in all that we do. Our electricity is by solar power, with generator back up for those occasion times that the sun does not shine. Yes - it does rain here, thankfully, as that helps fill our underground water tank, with tanker top ups in the summer. We do have a landline phone and wifi (use of computer can be arranged for keeping in touch with friends and family). We can be flexible with days and hours (in the summer ideally work is done early morning and late afternoon/evening to avoid the heat) but do ask that at least one weekend day is worked so that help can be given to us with any of the heavier, multi-handed, or bulkier tasks. We are both English, and I speak some Spanish, and are happy to assist if you want to improve your English conversation; and if you wish to attend formal classes to improve your English language skills we can put you in touch with local EFL teachers. Area: Alentejo

We are recently retired and now live on a 10ha organic farm in Alentejo, Portugal. We are in the early stages of setting up the farm and so have lots of jobs and long term projects that we would like to acheive. For this we have decided that we do need some help to develop. We have pigs, sheep, turkeys, hens, ducks, tortoises and dogs. We grow most of our own food. We are in a very beautiful and rural area and you can develop the Portugese language with help from the locals who do not speak English! We are an hours drive inland from the Algarve and just 30 MILES from the stunning west coast beaches. Our village has no shops but the next village which is 6 km away as a small supper market. We have two little bars in the village. The village is very very quiet with very little nightlife so please don`t come thinking you are coming to a tourist resort. This place is for people who like been in touch with nature, and enjoy been apart from big cities. The farm is a working farm and at times is dusty or muddy depending on the weather so working boots and working cloths are essential. Our working day is usually from 7.30 until 1830 yes long hours(often this is just feeding and cleaning the animals but we do have plenty of breaks). If you require to do just the 5 hour days as workaway says this is not a problem just speak up and we will set you 5 ish hours work then you can do what you want. We do go to local shows ,markets and events and you are always welcome to come with us. I am afraid that we are not the busy resort on the coast so please make sure you read and study our profile before contacting us. Our nearest big town is Ourique which is about 12 km away.
