    Description

Habari gani, karibu sana/ hello and welcome,
we are a non-governmental, non-profit making youth organization placed in Kibaha District outside Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. We are teaching the youth the value of education, the power of the individual and inspiring them to reach for their goals. Our goal is to help the community through educating the youth.

This was founded in 2003 by Obedy Kuguru. As child he had the lucky chance to get support from a German family for his education. From that point he decided to give this possibility to other children. When he came back to Kibaha after finishing school, he was met by the same reality that most of the Tanzanian youth face: The lack of education and work opportunities. In the light of this he started two new projects. The first project was concerning small kids, the second concerning youths.

In January 2003 the place Pre & Primary School opened. The school was meant for orphans and otherwise vulnerable children in the community. When the School started there were 30 children attending and we were teaching the children in the church of our community. Since then the number has increased to 465 students between 3 and 14 years. At the moment 14 very motivated and caring teachers are teaching the different classes namely the Baby class, Middle class, Nursery class, Class 1 up to Class 7 in 10 classrooms. The classes are divided into age and knowledge of the children.

The school is open from Monday to Friday from 07:30-17:00 and on Saturday from 07:30 until 14:00. The children are taught different subjects like Mathematics, English, Handwriting, Health/ Care and Environment, Swahili, Civic & Moral, Social study, Reading, Arts, Sport & Games and some more. The students are enjoying the school a lot and they are very happy to learn more about our colorful and big world! For a lot of children the school is their second home where they can explore the world, practicing their skills and having a great childhood!

We have two main school buildings and one separate building with one classroom and one office. Next to this building is our cooking area. In the two main school buildings are the classrooms, toilets and an other office. In total we have 10 classrooms. During the breaks the children are playing outside in our schoolyard which connects our two school building. The teachers always try to play some new games with the students to promote their athletic skills as well as teamwork, mindfulness and creativity.

The Pre & Primary School is giving these vulnerable children a better start on life, and in this way hopefully providing them the first steps out of poverty.
We are always happy about helping hands and people who support our school!
So if you are interested in getting more information about our school or volunteering you are more than welcome and we receive you with open arms!

We are really looking forward to hear from you !!

Asante sana/ thank you and greetings from Kibaha!

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

While globalization reaches all around the world, the economic inequality continues to create a gap between the global north and the global south. It is the perception of association, that it is important for people of the world to meet and exchange ideas and thoughts. We believe that interaction between people with different cultural backgrounds is the best way to start the dialogue, crucially needed, as the only way towards building a foundation for a more peaceful and equal world.

This is why we have a program for volunteering in a Tanzanian community. By requesting people to come and live and work in a community far from their own, we hope to help building bridges and create understanding between two cultures.

    Accommodation

The volunteers may be accommodated either in a host family or at a hostel. Usually it is a great experience for the volunteers to stay with a host family. This way the host family as well as the volunteer can get to know each other, their cultures and traditions. It is a great possibility for the volunteers to get to know the Tanzanian way of living and be part of this unique culture.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

The volunteers will have a good time visiting other places of our beautiful country. Serengeti National Park, Mount Kilimanjaro, Ngorongoro Crater, Mikumi National Park are just some of those special attractions you could visit. Furthermore Dar Es Salaam and Zanzibar are very close to our village and can be explored easily on the weekend. Kibaha and the village Kwamathias are along the main road which connects Dar Es Salaam to the other parts of Tanzania, this makes it easy to travel from here to other places without any problem.
