    Description

The setting here is beautiful and the projects are endless and wide ranging. If you like rustic living, the outdoors, hard work, a bit of solitude and nature… then read on, this may be the “vacation” you’ve been looking for.
This homestead was established around 1900 when the steamers were still chugging past, taking gold miner’s and goods to the small town of Atlin, BC. Often they would stop here for fresh produce that was being grown by the settler and early/famous, bare knuckle boxer, Red Rupert.
Here you will find opportunities for mechanical work such as working on chain saws, four wheelers, snow machines, cat, excavator or airplanes. Or, electrical work on the Hydro, solar or generators. Or, help with sawmill operations making lumber for construction projects. Are you a framer? We have an addition planed for the shop.
The cabins all need fresh paint on the trim, can you sew curtains? They also need to be jacked up and set on new foundations.
The Garden and flower beds have gone native and are in need of brute force to be reclaimed. Our years of collected fishing gear is in a state of total chaos and needs to be organized.
We also have a need for trail clearing and route marking for hiking trails. Whatever your strengths are I bet we can utilize them!
For your free time your imagination is the limit. You can fish, take the canoe for a paddle, watch for wildlife, hike, or let nature and the beauty be your muse for creative expression.
To get here, you first need to get to Atlin, British Columbia. After that we will take you by boat for about an hour ride to our place. If you are fearful of the water this may not be for you. The lakes are big with lots of fetch and can be rough. There is also a river to navigate but Jim has been traveling these waters for over fifty years and knows when to go and when to stay.
Because of the isolated location and limited ability to get in and out we cannot recommend that anybody with a medical condition or health risk come out here. We simply cannot get to emergency services in a timely manner.
We are not accessible by land, you can only get here by boat or air. We go to town as needed about twice a month.
Your accommodations will be a small log cabin to yourself. It has a wood stove for heat, a propane burner for cooking, cold water and a private outhouse. We will provide your food and meals. There is a shower house and a washing machine for your use as needed, and we have limited bandwidth internet most of the time at the main house. There is NO CELLULAR phone service.
We are sure that you will have a memorable and enriching experience here while also helping us out on our many projects!
    Thank you for reading.
We look forward to meeting you!
    Jim and Krista.
