Hi, we're Elena and Jim, an Italian/American couple with a 5-hectare (13 acre) property about 1 hour east of Rome. We host lots of workaway volunteers year-round, and the work trade has been very positive so far.
WE NEED PEOPLE IN MAY/JUNE/JULY! If you're thinking of the near-term, please contact us.
The work is mostly helping with the vegetable garden and some landscaping projects. It can get hot in the summer, but the house and its large panoramic-view terrace is very comfortable. We have wi-fi, satellite TV, indoor and outdoor stereo system to plug your music into, laundry, spacious and recently renovated interior, and even a jacuzzi hot tub located about 20 meters up the hill from the house.
We don't have many animals, just our dogs Gerry and Leo and Sally, our cat Oscar, and a few chickens who supply organic grade A eggs daily.
It is a really nice place to relax after the work is done and catch up on your reading and writing; we eat a lot of gourmet meals here, and we are right in the middle of a great DOC wine region! Elena can introduce you to some really fantastic Southern Italian cuisine, and show you how it's cooked.
Hope to hear from you soon!
Type of help.
Help with Computers / internet,
Help in the house,
Help with Eco project,
Cooking / shopping,
Weeding and watering, general upkeep, small construction projects, landscaping, flower and tree plantings, interior and exterior painting, masonry (especially installation of flat-stone walkways outside the house), retaining walls, terracing, organic gardening... the list goes on.
Very comfortable private rooms with a large, newly renovated bathroom.
What else ...
The nearest train station (Valmontone) is 20 minutes' drive away, but we are willing to provide transport in our car when possible. We are looking into getting a motorscooter for workaway guests to use... for now it's bicycles. From Valmontone, the trains to Roma Termini run about every half hour and the trip time varies from 35 minutes to 50 minutes, depending on the number of stops. Last train from Rome to here leaves Rome at 11pm.

Hi Jim and Elena!!
Sorry it's taken so long to leave feedback. We had a great time staying at your beautiful house. You both made us feel really welcome and looked after us while we were there.
Potential workaways: The house is in a great area of Italy, beautiful country side and easy access to Rome. The work is not too difficult but it's more

It was great staying with Jim and Elena, they have a lovely house and both make you feel very welcome.
There is a lot to do but the place grows on you and work will become enjoyable as you see the place progress.
Workawayers should be aware, although nobody has mentioned this in previous feedback, that you will be expected to pay for, and more

We had a great time during our stay at Romestead. Jim was an incredibly gracious host and has such an interesting story, there was never a dull moment with him. Jim will be the first to admit that there's a lot of work to be done around the house but we took so much satisfaction in being able to help contribute our little part to the beauty of more
Julia and Mike were great Workaway guests and besides being fun people to have around they also worked very hard and were very task-oriented. They are very responsible and considerate people who look after their daily environment and seek to make it better than they found it. Strong recommendation for both of them.
We have had some great workawayers before, but Jonathan and Debbie have set a new standard. They are fun people to have around, but at the same time they both take huge personal sarisfaction in seeing a job well done. They continually amazed me with their work ethic, always going the extra mile to find something that needed cleaning or fixing. more

I had a great time helping out and living with the family and pets. It was my first workaway experience and was a total immersion into country life away from the busy cities and towns, in a completely beautiful and isolated location. I absolutely loved learning about Jim and Elena's way of life, how they cared for the land and their animals and more

Kate is a real hard worker, a very kind and caring person, and keeps her environment in order. We loved having her as our Workaway guest, and she can come back anytime! It was a real gift for us to have Kate as our guest -- and she did so much good for our garden, too! If you have young kids, you will be especially lucky to have Kate stay with more

I had a great time here! A really nice house in a beautiful mountainside area. Jim is an awesome guy, hospitality is so good, the work is fine and straightforward and there is plenty of time to relax with a few beers!
Christoforo is a great little dog, he was my little buddy, always followed me everywhere with his happy little dog face looking at more

We spent an amazing week here, and cannot thank Jim enough for his hospitality (and Elena too!). There was lots of work to be done, but Jim is always good for a beer and a relaxing moment on the deck watching the sunset. Oh, and the hot tub didn't hurt either. :) The house is incredibly comfortable, and is like a little slice of California in more
Alyssa and Justin, you are missed here.. and not just by doggie Christoforo! You are fantastic people and our doors are open to you always! Happy Travels, Jim, Elena and Christoforo

Workin' here was a great way to ease into my travels. Jim was very nice about working around my jetlag for the first little while and was an all around great guy to have a conversation with, very easy going and it was easy to get along with the whole family, not to mention all of their friends are very good people as well. Sofia is a great kid and more
Everything Darian says on her profile is absolutely correct. She is an extremely honest, hardworking person and learns things very fast. She is also great with kids, having become practically a new big sister to our little 3-year-old Sofia during her month at Romestead. Darian is mature beyond her eighteen years, very easy-going, and a real more
