  • Description

We are searching for highly motivated volunteers who want to join our team and help us on our husky farm as well as in our lodge.
UPDATE: If you apply for summer please be informed that we do not take volunteers for less than 2 months, preferably 3-4 months.
Please do not apply for winter 2017/2018 before June.

To get an impression of your opportunities first some words about us:

We have run a husky farm as well as a lodge for accommodation of our guests in Finnish Lapland for more than 20 years, so have a lot of experience with both, dogs and guests. Our farm is located in the Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park, about 150 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle and near to the Swedish border.

At the moment we care for about 520 dogs, starting with the puppies, growing up and being tour dogs for our guests or part of the race team and, of course, the oldies resting from hard work. Our lodge is an old log cabin hotel which is 8km from the sled dog center, located next to a small lake where the guests can refresh after sauna and often see beautiful northern lights. We also have some further small cabins (Mökkis) next to the lodge.

We offer sled dog tours to our guests. Most of the tours are one week tours through the forests and over the lakes nearby the sled dog center. Depending on the kind of the tour the guests stay one up to four nights in wilderness cabins. They drive their own sleds and may help with feeding and cleaning during the tour. But they also enjoy their time in our cozy lodge with good meals, sauna and activities like snow shoe hiking, cross-country skiing or ice fishing.

We are looking for volunteers who want to help us with our work on the husky farm as well as in the lodge. For more information about the kind of work please see below.

Most of our guests are Mid-Europeans, but we also have guests from all over the world. The same applies to our team. All of them, also our volunteers must speak English. Most of our team also speaks German, some also French and other languages. Finnish is not required.

We expect our volunteers to be highly motivated in the work with dogs and with guests, being reliable and careful and always act with respect to the needs of our dogs, guests and the surrounding nature. It is required to have a driving license, not only for transfers between the camp and the lodge or for shopping but also for driving the atvs and snow mobiles.

The volunteer work should be minimum 1 month, maximum 3 months.

If you are interested in such a volunteer work please send us your application in German or English language including some background information about yourself, your working experiences and your motivation to volunteer with us. Also a picture of you would be nice.

Please recognize that the work on a husky farm can be hard some times, especially in winter when the temperature is low (-30° or less). The dogs have to be fed every day, also the cleaning has to be done irrelevant how the weather is. So, also the working hours are not fix and can vary in duration and time of the day. Additionally be aware that our dogs get meat, so if you are a vegetarian make sure that you can handle to prepare and give such food. Last but not least, keep in mind that our husky farm is within a beautiful nature what also means that there is no big city right next to it. So, if you need a lot of people around you maybe you would feel too lonely here.

On the other side you will have the opportunity to experience the wild life with our dogs in a beautiful surrounding. There are a lot of activities you can do like doing trips with the dogs, with snow mobiles, with snow shoes, skiing, ice fishing, staying in a wilderness cabin for a night in winter or hiking, biking, swimming and much more in summer.
