I spent 2 weeks here with my friend Nick and another volunteer from America. Metin was extremely generous to us, and we're very grateful to him for allowing us to visit the house. The land is beautiful, isolated and so peaceful. We were Metin's first volunteers, and initially we cooked for him but it became apparent that he is quite a private
more person and not used to sharing his space with others. For the rest of the time he provided us with the food we needed from the market and we cooked for ourselves.
Unfortunately there was very little work for volunteers to do, every day we asked what he wanted us to do, but there were 2 boys from a local village doing the kind of jobs we expected to be doing. Sometimes Metin seemed busy and stressed and communication was difficult, we felt a little awkward, wanting to repay his generosity but unsure of what was required of us.
All three of us are artists, so we painted a windmill, made sculptures for the garden from scrap metal and wood and items we found on the beach, created two seating areas. We also walked the two big dogs down to a river every day which was always eventful and very funny.
Metin took us out to meet friends for meals some evenings, and we had a lot of laughs. During free time we walked to Assos which was INCREDIBLE, explored the ancient ruins and relaxed at the beach. Despite a few complications which were probably expected as we were the first volunteers for Metin, we had a lot of fun and will certainly never forget our time there.
Thank you Metin!
