Volunteer needed in the Icelandic countryside
Description
We are a family of 5 in northern Iceland, but only 4 that live in the house. We live in a beautiful valley about 12 kilometres away from the town of Akureyri, which has about 18.000 inhabitants. Akureyri is the biggest city outside of the capital of Iceland, Reykjavík. The town has a lot to offer, like museums, movie theatres, bars, nightclubs, bowling alley, ice skating rink, swimming pools and more. There is a geothermal swimming pool about 3 kilometres from our house. We have a great view of the countryside from our house and there is a big garden with trees and a barbecue.
We bought a big old 3 story house to renovate in the summer 2011. There is an apartment on the second floor where we live and there is a raw food and vegetarian/vegan restaurant on the ground floor but it's only open during the summer months. Kristín has learnt holistic medicine and gives oil therapies, courses on healthy cooking and private counselling. Grettir works at Akureyri airport but is also a contractor for farmers where he works with heavy machines. NOTICE: We are not farmers and we do not have any animals now except two dogs.
The summers in this area of Iceland can be really nice and the winters are beautiful. There is a lot of snow during the winter and there's a ski area in Akureyri. We also have snowmobiles and use them whenever we can during the wintermonths.

Thank you so much, you did a great job at our place and we really liked having you around and helping out. Would have liked to have you for a longer period og time.

Our first time with workaway couldn't have been better. Kristín and Grettir were very kind and friendly, they did everything to make us feel at home and they made sure we had everything we needed. Our work shifts weren't tiring at all and we had plenty of free time. We learnt many things about Iceland and many Icelandic words! It was a fantastic more
Hi Guilio and Martha and thank you for all your help. It was really nice having you in our restaurant and you made a difference in our busy summer schedule.
It was a perfect trip. Even though I was there for 2 weeks, Grettir and Kristin gave me a warm welcome. Whether it was getting a lift in a tractor or gaining a tour of the fjord guided by themselves. Kristin was also flexible with the times of when I worked. I got what i needed and more. I couldn't of been better treated - perfect. I wish i could more
Thank you Jamie for your help - you did well despite your broken wrist - thank you again.
Stephanie and Kate thank you for staying with us for two weeks. You are great girls, enthusiastic workers, easy to please and were interested in learning about Iceland and everything related to us, so we bonded easily. It was a pleasant first time in the workaway experience to have you two staying over and helping out.
Thank you again Stephanie more

Staying with this great Icelandic family was a true gift for Kate and I. We had a really lovely room, all the delicious food we could eat and lots of free time. They made a point of taking us sight seeing and we even got to go on holiday for a week with some of the family. We were very very well treated and the work we did could never measure up more
