Area: North West WalesA land based eco-centre run by local people on the tip of the Llyn Peninsula in North West Wales. We are currenly building a new visitor centre building using traditional and eco-building methods such as straw bale, oak timber frame and earth walling. We are looking for motivated and enthusiastic people to help build the centre. We have been welcoming volunteers here for the past 8 years from all over the world with up to 10 people resident, staying for up to 3 months. All the many building and organic gardening projects have been carried out entirely by volunteers and school children. There are 5 staff and a small team of local volunteers who manage the centre and the community garden.
Area: New South WalesPLEASE VIEW OUR CALENDAR BEFORE MAKING CONTACT. We (Greg and Janelle) have a very green, very active farm in a lovely part of Southern NSW, 7 km from beautiful Mollymook Beach. We enjoy wonderfully fresh air, stunning sunsets and happy cows. We have no availability left for 2013. We are undertaking a number of projects to improve our land stewardship. These include removing weedy trees from our forest and planting natives, and improving our pastures. We are trialling biodynamic principles on part of the farm. We would have enjoyed being helpers when we travelled so have decided to be hosts to other travellers. We love good conversation and have very wide interests and experiences. We have both travelled extensively and also worked in many countries. Our farm is our green office where every day is a learning day. Our goal is to do it well, and we are constantly improving. We also very much enjoy music, art, good food and outdoor activities like kayaking and surfing, though we don't get much time for that now. We have a very long to-do list with many different tasks. We work hard and fast but also believe one must have time to enjoy family and friends. Tasks depend on your skills, and range from removing weeds and planting trees to collecting firewood kindling and rocks (yes we're derocking paddocks and plan to build a rock wall). We also have a few building projects. We appreciate that you need time to explore as well as work and can arrange a schedule to give some additional time. We have a relatively small, but comfortable 1870s home with only one bathroom so respect for shared space and cleanliness is essential. It's a farm so we get very dirty but we like a comfortable clean home. Internet access available (with limited downloads - it's wireless). We enjoy good food though lunch is often on the run. We occasionally get to our local theatre that has great live music. There are also fabulous bush walks and fabulous beaches and lakes close by.
Area: SicilyORANGE SEASON IS COMING!WE WILL BE PLEASED TO START HOSTING AGAIN FROM MID JANUARY, IN DECEMBER WE WON'T BE ABLE TO HOST! The original arab channel used for irrigation gives the name to our project, it carries water and gives life with it, from it's presence and from it's sound comes out our aim. For us it's a conscious choice of life. Blessed by the welcoming presence of the river and by the changing times of nature. A choice of sharing places and elements. A tiny group of people that looking outside and inside of themselves, choose the land as a space for confrontation. A place for sperimentation between new and old techniques of Permaculture and natural/organic farming. There are moments of hard work, of quietness, heavy summer sweat, soft music and long sleeps. We need Help and we give Help in our everyday life teaching and learning, harvesting and sharing, farming and living. Accomodation is provided in the "Hosts trailer" or in tents. Food is mixed, we're not vegans nor prettly vegetarians, but those of us eating meat, get it just from nearby farmers. Our products are 100% natural/organic but we buy some products that we cannot produce from local market and local producers. Must remind that our project started in June 2011 from an abandoned orange orchard and we're slowly chaanging it into our little organic paradise..but since we are not a farm and we basically don't make profit out of our work but just self consumption (except in orange picking time from beginning of January until end of March when we get some income for our all year surviving and paying the taxes..), we have a shared money box from wich we pay the food we cannot produce, bills and so on, and a small contribution to the common expenses (about 3euro per day) is required. Hopefully one day we won't need it anymore becouse we would be producing so much that we might be self sufficient and usiing our extra to buy things we can't make. Hope to see you soon! It's all about water and leaves.
