    Description

**If you are interested in animal care and fixing fences we can use your help in April**

If you are interested to work with us please read our profile and check the calendar before you apply. This is a rural area so if you like nature and forest this could be a match. If you prefer a crowded pub - no match.

The area around here says to be one of Scandinavia's most beautiful places and it´s located just outside Gränna in the deep fairy-like John Bauer forest of Småland. Our farm´s history goes back all the way to the 18th century. Today it´s a small family business with agriculture, forestry and animals: hereford cattle. There´s also some sheep, hens, horses, rabbits and of course a couple of dogs.

The family consists of farmer Petter and his wife Jenny. We´re easy going people and workaway gives us an opportunity to see/meet the world without leaving home. For obvious reasons we cannot take long vacations. :) As a farmer weather and animals runs your life but we like to take shorter trips and are more than happy to show our volunteers this beautiful area and our way of life.

Our work list is long and includes both small and big projects but an annual review would look like this:

▪️Jan-Feb - shearing sheep, general maintenance
▪️Mar-Apr - carpentry work, repairs, animal care
▪️May - fencing, firewood, garden work
▪️Jun-July - hay harvest, garden work, fencing
▪️Aug-Sep - grain harvest, cleaning, firewood
▪️Oct-Nov-Dec - firewood, animal care, cleaning

Food: we eat meat (pork, beef, lamb, chicken), dairy products, eggs and of course vegetables. So if you have special diet request like vegetarian/vegan/pescatarian this is not the place for you.

If you´re interested in applying please read our profile and include the following information in you application:

    ▪️Appr arrival/departure dates.
▪️Describe the work you´re interested in and what skills you can contribute with or would like to learn.

We offer workawayers a (hopefully) pleasant stay with varied tasks depending on season, weather and of course your interests and skills. For example fencing, shearing sheep, carpentry work, caring for animals, cleaning barn, harvesting hay, gardening, cutting firewood and maintenance of machines and buildings. If you know your away around tractors, chainsaws and other tools that’s great but not necessary.

Daily chores includes feeding animals and cleaning barn. Besides that there is a number of small and big projects to take on for anyone who can work independently like building gates, fixing fences and misc repairs. So if you are a Jack/Jane of all trades you can find interesting challenges here.

If you like country life but prefer other chores help in the house is always appreciated. That means cooking, baking, cleaning etc.

We usually work long hours and help is really appreciated but we don´t expect our workawayers do to the same hours as we do. We follow Workaway rules and expect 4-5 hours, 5 days a week and of course this is flexible.

However we do expect our workawayers to be responsible, honest and reliable. If you have specials skills thats great but most important is to be interested and not afraid of trying and learning new things. Farm work can be both boring and dirty so if you can´t deal with hard work and dirty hands this is not the place for you. We also prefer our workawayers to be at least 20 years or older.

    What else ...

Please note that we are located in a rural area and driving license is good. Public transportation is 6 km away, nearby towns are Jönköping 30 km and Gränna 15 km.

We don´t expect you to be a trained proffessional (even though you are very welcome too) but we expect you to be interested and willing to learn. We love to hang out and share meals with you even though we work a lot. Also remember: this is a rural area which means that you have to be able entertain yourself the rest of the time.

To all our previous helpers (2014 - 2023) thank you ever so much - we are very greatful for all the help!
