Area: Bruce Peninsula, Ontario CanadaOur small home and cabins are "off grid" with energy from a modest solar system only. That means, of course, we must monitor our electrical use carefully, and internet access is limited . Two gentle dogs share our space. Each summer we offer a simple retreat for people who need to restore themselves physically and spiritually in a natural setting. We are not doing this for profit, but because we see the need. If you come to our 100 acres your creativity, as well as your labour, will help us make it happen. We are in a beautiful setting on the Bruce Peninsula, alongside the Bruce Trail , near caves, 1.5 kms from the pristine waters of Georgian Bay and 8 km from a village ( For an idea of our geography google Bruce Peninsula National Park or Niagara escarpment) Our property is a beautiful rolling 100 acres (40 hectares) of white pine and hardwood forests. There are also several acres of wild apple trees and two open fields for vegetables and fruit cultivation. It is a biosphere area where you can stargaze as you sit around the camp fire. It is a "dark sky" area with no suburban lights interfering with the full majesty of stars ( You can get an idea of our land and Workaway projects by looking at the pictures of...BUILding the GAZEBO( It took a lot of sanding, which allowed plenty of time for good conversations, lots of laughter, much lemonade and snacks and, of course, a great team of Workawayers !!!.) painting the bunkie, picking peas, gathering herbs and making sure the camp fire stays lit
Area:We are a family of five, a father, mother and three boys. Sissi, the father of the house, is an independant contractor. Agnes is an office manager at a catering company. Hordur is an 18 year old student who lives with us every other week. Jovin is a 4 year old boy with an interest in his toys and playing outside and Joakim is a sweet toddler of 18 months with his toddler interests. We try to eat as healthy as possible but we are no fanatics, we enjoy occasional steak now and then. Sissi is a keen hockey fan who playes with the local team in Akureyri. Agnes loves to do handicraft of all kind and knitting is one of her favorit hobbies. Both of us play a little bit on various instruments and love good music. Two years ago we bought an old house in great need of some TLC. We have been renovating the house gradually on the inside and this summer we plan on working on the house on the outside. We plan on doing some landscaping in the garden and painting the house. We live in the North of Iceland, in a small town called Akureyri with 17.000 residents. We are very close to the town center with the swimming pool, main shopping street, library, museums, botanical garden and the duck pond in just a 5 minutes walk away. We are 5 minutes away from the main bus station and all buses are free in Akureyri for those who want to take a quick tour around town. Akureyri is only an hour drive from Myvatn wich is one of the most beautiful places to see in all of Iceland. It's lava fromations, lakes and crates is something everyone traveling to Iceland must see.
Area: Midi PyreneesHi - we've lived here since 2001 running family-friendly gites and hosting yoga retreats. I need help in the garden and with general building maintenance in Autumn & Spring. I garden organically and am also interested in permaculture. We have ponies, chickens, cats & a dog. I teach the Alexander Technique and also practice yoga & meditation. My partner is a jazz pianist. My daughters are 10 & 14. We are vegetarian non-smokers. I have been a host for many years and my last helpers stayed for 2 months. We would prefer people with experience and preferably a couple/friends.
