We are looking for a handyman, or someone with any of these abilities: carentry, replastering old walls, sanding, tiling or building skills.
Would you like staying in a lovely place near Barcelona and by the beach, helping repair our lovely ancient home (but be aware you should be skilled at least in one of the fields mentioned above, as we cannot teach you how to do it! :(
We are a family of 4: Vicent (teaches German), Imma (psychologist) Marçal (13 years old avid reader, soccer and piano player) and Arnau (11 years old active and smiley boy fond of taekwondo and inline hockey).
We love travelling and having travellers at home. We do home exchange when travelling, as we like living as locals , and we are fond of languages.
We are open minded people that like enrolling in open air activities: going to the beach, hiking, skiing, ...), reading and learning new skills.

Our home needs a lift, so if you are a handyman, we would benefit from your abilities to do small repairs around the house (some plaster/sanding/painting work, some tiling, restoring the façade, some carpentry work regarding to repairing furniture, etc. ) Please be honest, as we won't be able to help you! But it's obvious that you do not need to cover all this skills. Tell us what could you do for helping our family and let's see if we can be a good match!
We need you to be a person with a good work's ethic, easy-going and non smoker. You should also be independent, as we won't be able to entertain you in your free time, because we work, too!
You can stay with us from a few days up to several weeks, so are flexible on this point. On the other hand, you can choose in between two options:
FULL BOARD: you can work 30h a week (it's up to you to work in a 5 or 6 days basis) in exchange for good healthy food and a place to call your own.
ONLY ACCOMMODATION: if you want to have more free time, we can offer you to work only 14h a week just for the accommodation in the studio, without meals. In that case, you will have to buy and cook your own food, but there's a supermarket and a market close by and you will have plenty of time for sightseeing! Please, note that, if you are a couple, we will only accept you on this basis.
IMPORTANT: when applying TELL US what YOUR SKILLS are, the LENGTH OF TIME you want to work for us and HOW LONG would you like staying with us.

We offer you kind of a studio in the second floor of our home: it's a sunny bedroom with your own inside bathroom, terrace and kitchenette. With wifi.
Our home, a 1900's ancient house in a pedestrian area, is located in the main street of our city, Vilanova i la Geltru, a safe and lively place close to Barcelona and Tarragona, two UNESCO world's heritage spots. The theme park of Port Aventura is also nearby. From here you can go and visit, in daily trips, most of what our region has to offer: from the Pyrenees mountains to the Ebro river's delta, old ancient monasteries, such as Montserrat, Poblet or Santes Creus, medieval cities like Montblanc, the beautiful Costa Brava and the wine caves in Sant Sadurní d'Anoia, just to talk about a few places we are sure you will love.
Trains are frequent, very cheap (2,8€ to Barcelona) and comfortable and we live close to the railway station, so you can go around by public transportation.
For the beach lovers: our home is just a 7 minutes walk to a large beach and the weather here is sunny all year long and never really cold (even in the coldest days of winter, never under 8ºC).
Closest airports: Barcelona's airport and Reus airport. Many low cost companies land on them, as Ryannair, Vueling, Air Berlin, etc. Nearest train station: Vilanova i la Geltru.

Our ancient 1901 home and my parents' apartment must have a lifting, so if you are really good at any of those works: plastering and sanding, doing some carpentry work to repairi furniture, installing dry walls , tiling kitchens or baths, working with mortar or rebuilding the façade of our home, then you will be more than welcome!
We are looking for smiling, energetic, independent, easy going, non-smoking people who are talkative, open-minded and honest, someone who is really skilled to do repairs around the house.
Maybe it's obvious to say it, but we are a family, not a hotel, so we are sure that you will act as you would do at home (so you will clean up after yourself, let your bedroom in perfect conditions the day of your departure, help preparing the meals if this is your option, etc).
About meals: we eat home made meals, try to eat healthy food and we rarely drink sugared or alcoholic beverages (but if you like them with the meals, you are free to buy them yourself and you will also see that wine and beer are very cheap compared with most European countries). We eat meat and fish, but are able to adapt for vegetarians.
We enjoy cooking and sharing meals with our guests but just don't have time to show them round Barcelona and/or provide entertainment. This is why we tend to get on better with couples or self sufficient singles.

On the other hand, if you just want to have a vacation, we can also consider renting you the bedroom, but we would of course prefer someone willing to exchange his/her skills for a place you can consider your home!

This was my first workaway experience! My takeaway from this was a more in depth and richer understanding of not only Spanish history, but history from a Catalan perspective.
