Area: Emilia–RomagnaWe are a family of three, Maria, Ron and our son Julian, plus our very lazy Italian dog, Stella. We're English, originally from London, and have lived in Italy for 10 years now. Julian is in his final year at the liceo in Bologna and he's hoping to go on to study engineering there. I teach English from time to time but my real passion is gardening. My partner is a retired university professor who spends most of his time writing and still travels quite frequently, mostly to Japan. Our house is a bit rambling, but comfortable and stuffed with books, and full of lots of quiet places to go and read, meditate or just do nothing if you feel like it.
Area: Uecker-RandowHello there! We're Alex, Jan and Arthur Heuer. We are both mid 30s, and Arthur was born in 4/2013. We live on our farm in Kirchenfeld/ Penkun, eastern Germany. Alex comes from a little town near Stuttgart and I was raised near Hamburg. We met in Tromsø, Norway in 2006, where Alex studied biologie and I kind of studied philosophie. We were brought together by our love for heavy metal music and been together ever since. Alex went back to Tromsø twice to finish her diploma, the last time, I joined her and made our living by guiding tourists. Meanwhile I had grown tired of philosophie and cancelled my studies. After Alex got her degree, we moved (back) to Hamburg together. We soon grew tired of the hasty city-lifestyle and decided to move to the countryside. We found the place we are currently living in and fell in love with it at first sight. The house had not much, but potential and we started to make it a home right away. We basically emptied the house, did the waterinstallation and electricity and started to form everything to our liking. This year (2014) we finally got a new roof and the house plastered. In 2011 we got married, in 2013 we got Arthur, so now we are a propper family. We still try to attend to Wacken festival every year, though we had to pause, the year Arthur was born. Our goal is to become selfsufficient minifarmers, we keep chickens, ducks and pigs. We have also tried sheep and rabbits, but gave them away again. We also have Lara, our dog and our three cats, Cleopatra, Pippilotta and Odin. By now, we have got quite some gardenspace ready, to keep us occupied. We try to grow as much as possible ourselves, but we are far from selfsufficient. We take responsibility for the world around us, so whatever we buy, we try to go for organic and fair trade products. We try to avoid plastic as far as possible and stay away from flavour enhancers, preservatives and a lot of other additives from modern chemnistry. We don't have WiFi because we don't know what it does to us and Arthur. We got cables ready, though ;-) We like to eat meat, but it's not a problem if you are vegitarian/vegan. We respect your way of living and expect you to respect ours – that applies generally. Since we have a little baby, we are pretty occupied, so we won't be around most of the evenings, that means, you have to be ok with aloneness, in case there are no other volunteers around. We have three caravans and a roomy viking-style-tent and also a guestbathroom, so privacy is garanteed. I you want to help us, we expect you to be able to: - clean up after yourself - cook simple meals - hold a shovel and consider yourself a hard worker. What is probably important for you as well: as we live out in the sticks, there are no shops or pubs around. The next town with 2000 inhabitans is 4 km away, there`s a tiny grocery store, a pharmacy, a flower shop and a bakery. That`s all :-P Feel free to ask last minute- we need more help! >>update 12.7.: we need more help from the beginning of September!
Area: 30 000m2Depending on Your skills /preferences we agree, divide and share tasks in the best way for everyone! We are committed to make the best we can for mutual benefit and exchange. If You share your skills, engagement, energy and time here - we contribute with what we can and try to make You stay as rewarding as possible. We are in the process of turning this little farm into an educational center for natural building techniques, use of recycled stuff and especially including clay in buildings. We have lived here since april-10 and already offered many courses, workshops and guided tours of different techniques of building with clay. We are creating our course-area with several barracks. One as a small lecture hall. One barrack is the workshop for a pedal power project (using scrapped bicycles to make small pedal machines, we are in the beginning of that project. have not produced much so far, but want to...) We want to welcome YOU who are kind, social and friendly and also motivated to help out in different methods of building with wood and clay and all other activities that we have ongoing. For example cultivating, fencing, and all sorts of daily cares of animals and maintenance. Also help in kitchen and taking turns in cooking would be nice! Now, we are a bit behind in all duties that has to be done, and urgently need help. We like persons to communicate a bit with us before deciding, and we prefer that You stay for at least 4-5 weeks, if we like each others company maybe You stay for a few months? We like to know though that You choose THIS place for what we can offer and that You think You can contribute with that fits into our transition, and creative and positive atmosphere. We are increasing our cultivation, not big so far, but growing. The aim is to develop more and more into Permaculture. We also need more helping hands with vegetable gardens and cultivation. This season we are preparing for a "food-forest", so some help with planning, digging and planting this fall is truly needed. Working together with us here also includes helping out with all sorts of things that come with the daily life on a little farm, like fencing, daily maintenance and care of animals, taking down treas, etc.... This year we are late with preparing firewood for the winter, so as soon as possible now during the summer we need help with that. We also paint quite a lot this summer, mostly (but not totally) with home made, old fashion natural egg oil tempera. About us and our animals: ”We” are a happily married middle aged couple. My husbands name is Lars-Erik, but almost no one knows that. Since he was eight years old he is called ”Lärkan” which is Swedish for ”the Lark” (=the singing bird). My name is Marjo. We are an active couple that have changed our lifestyle into a more sustainable one. Our two sons are grown up and only visit once in a while. We found this little cottage in the middle of the forest. A lot had, and still has to be done here. Square meter by square meter we take care, restore, build new buildings and cultivate... Long way to go... a lot is still not as organized as we would like it to be. We have two cats and three very kind family dogs. In addition to these "family dogs" we also have a cattle-guardian dog. He lives with the sheep day and night and will keep them and our other small animals more safe. There are a lot of wolfs, lynxes, foxes and bears around our place. Exiting and interesting wildlife and ABSOLUTELY NO THREAT TO HUMANS but dangerous for our small animals. About relaxation and getting to know Swedish traditions: Of course we will try to show You some and tell You as much as You want! Most likely we will work together 5 days week. But we usually have long relaxing pauses for meals speaking and relaxing together. To socialize is important to us, so we prefer having communicative volunteers than silent loners... Also we are sensitive to atmospheres... so if You think You know most things better than others we don´t want You to come here. ^^ We like to make friends, and preferably to keep friends! We have been so lucky that several of our previous volunteers have come back to us. Some jsut to visit, others to come work with us again and contribute and share life... Wonderful! In the evenings we at times watch a film together. We listen to music a lot. Of course there will be opportunities to make trips to interesting places around here! We will in every way try to make Your stay as rewarding as possible. On Sundays, and at times other weekdays we usually let volunteers use our car to have a trip and do some sight seeing. (You will pay the petrol yourself) There is always a lot that has to be done but every task is lot more enjoyable in companionship! We would love to get new companions, new friends - are YOU one of them?!? As You can read - it happens a lot here out in the forest up north in Sweden : ) We cultivate together with a dear friend, Monika, that i also here a lot. All that we cultivate of course is organically grown, but what we buy is not always. It would be nice also to prepare meals together, maybe at times also to take turns in cooking? I, Marjo, eat vegetarian, but also fish and eggs. I have some food intolerances, for example no tolerance to gluten, and most diary products so if You have a special diet it is not a problem - we are familiar to several allergies. Accomodation: You will be provided simple accomodation: for example beds in a little guesthouse. It is small, only about 13 m2 with no conveinences. Two small rooms, You will share that little house with one or two others. There is also another room available situated inside the barn, for one or two persons. Also some extra space in one of the new barracks. PLEASE consider this: No wireless radiation: One thing though, that unfortunately is a non-negotiable condition is that You will have to have your cellphone turned off all the time on our piece of land. WHY? Because I, Marjo, am hypersensitive to wireless radiation. But of course You can stroll a little bit away to check your sms-es and make your calls! By the same reason You will not be provided with wireless internet - only wire-bound! I get many symptoms, problems and difficulties from wireless radiation, that is one of the reasons we searched for a long time and in several regions to find a place with this good radio shadow. We found it, and here I thrive! In a special area there is a computer arranged with Skype and internet for all guests and volunteers. There is a lot to do, but no worries : ) In joyful companionship a lot will be accomplished! We are looking forward to getting to know new friends who would like to share their thoughts, experience and skills with us. If our lifestyle and activities sounds appealing to You: please contact us! We would love and appreciate the helping hands of handy men or handy-women. And of course we will do what we can to make your stay as rewarding as possible. We are looking forward to getting to know new friends who would like to share thoughts, experience and skills with us. Especially to me, who almost never leaves home, it is vital to meet nice persons and share tasks and thoughts with! So if You are a silent, inward, critical loner, please do not apply! But if You think You would fit in here - PLease contact us!
