Description
This is a unique nonprofit outdoor education center. Our programs celebrate antiquated lifestyle practices, understanding the basic foundation of where things come from and where things go. Here, food is cooked exclusively over wood fire and we live without electricity or hot running water.
Our unique hand crafted buildings were literally carved right from the wilderness and built by us. We guide people through experiences with the natural world to enhance their appreciation and respect for life. We achieve this through a more comprehensive understanding of nature combined with the lessons of our elders and traditions.
We always need volunteers to help with cutting firewood, cooking, taking care of the animals, repairing a million things that constantly need repaired, and helping with camps and classes. You learn primitive living while working at this magnificent preserve, growing and learning how to have less of a carbon footprint and more of an impact on sustainability and simple living.
If you like to live in the outdoors, sleep in your cabin heated by a wood-burning stove, eat organic healthy foods, then this is the place for you.Types of help and learning opportunities

Accommodation
We have a number of cabins available for volunteers, heated by wood-burning heaters. Volunteers are welcome to fix breakfast for themselves with food we supply in our outdoor kitchen. We often eat lunch and supper together as a community. All food and sleeping accommodations are provided free of charge. In the off season, classes and programs slow down and there is a lot of quiet and solitude. December - March there are long periods of time where we have no visitors and no community meals.
What else ...
Volunteers should be responsible and hard working - either independently or within a team. Of course, we will discuss with you ahead of time, what projects we have going at the time you are interested in, to make sure the tasks are right for you and that you are comfortable. If you have issues with substance abuse, or a criminal history - please do not apply. We are first and foremost an education center, and we run extensive background checks on everyone who is on the property for the safety of the children we host.
