We are a German-Irish family (30-something couple with three children) and live on a dairy farm in the sunny south east of Ireland, close to the Irish Sea.
Currently we have a place available from the 15'th of May until the beginning of June. We are looking forward to hear from you!
Help in the house
Hi everybody! We are Katrin (36) and Thomas (46) and together with our two sons (14 & 5), our daughter (8)and our dog Luna we are living on a dairy farm in county Wexford, 2 km from a lovely village and only 5 km from the Irish Sea.
As a family we love the outdoors, gardening, anything related with farming, reading, upcycling, crafts, good food, baking and cooking and family movie nights.
From February onwards the calving season will start and there will be milking and feeding to do every day.
In late spring, early summer there is a good bit of field work, cleaning out sheds, looking after the animals and of course milking to be done.
In June we will have a few very busy days when the silage is being cut.
From mid summer until mid autumn there will be mostly the usual milking, feeding routine and the odd maintenance job, like looking after machinery, repair fencing, etc...
In autumn the sheds we have to get the sheds ready for housing the animals over winter. Depending on the performance of the herd. Milking might only be done once a day.
In exchange for your help we offer you to become part of our family with full inclusion in our family.
The kids are bilingual, but the main language spoken is English.
So if you consider yourself as an outgoing, responsible, fun and independent person and team player we would be thrilled to hear from you!
You will have your own apartment with bathroom and balcony terrace with beautiful views. The apartment is right next-door to the main house, above the garage.
There is a kitchen in the apartment but we like you to have your meals with us in the house. It's always a great chance to have a chat and to get to know each other!
In exchange for your help we offer you:
- your own comfortable appartment
- use of washing machine
- plenty of wholesome food (we try to eat healthy most of the time)
- use of bicycle
- welcoming and treating you as a family member
The village is a beautiful and lively place with pubs, shops, restaurants, a post office, a pharmacy and public transport to the next biggest towns.
Please only non-smokers.
Limited internet access
We have pets
We are smokers
Mostly you will learn a lot about the running of a dairy farm and about livestock husbandry.
As mentioned above we are a German-Irish family and we try to in-cooperate traditions from both cultural backgrounds.
Every year we try our hand at something new. Last year we started to keep hens, this year we got ourself a poly tunnel. We are also very interested in foraging, herbs, making our own preserves or trying our hand at projects like making our own yoghurt, upcycling e.g : making garden furniture from pallets.
