Description

we are a busy motel/restaurant in the historic village of Waipu, 90 minutes north of Auckland and 30 minutes south of Whangarei - the Gateway to the North.

I am recently widowed, and have owned the motel for 5 years. My family come to help some weekends, other than that I am running the business on my own (with the help of my little dog, Eva).

I am now seeking suitable helpers for the spring/summer season, and specifically I need help with the grounds and with ongoing maintenance. I can send any interested person a list of what is specifically required. Some experience in this type of work would be a distinct advantage. And someone who can work unsupervised is essential.

Also, you must speak English, otherwise communication becomes too difficult.

I am happy to offer a workaway experience to interested persons in exchange for accommodation and meals.

This could ideally suit couples, though singles will also be considered. Someone who can stay 3 - 4 weeks at a time will be ideal, longer if it works out.

I prefer non-smokers, NZ has a non-smoking policy for all motel/hotels/restaurants etc. I also have a zero tolerance for drugs policy which applies to the length of your stay here. Using recreational drugs on or off the site will not be tolerated.

During your free time you are able to discover the district, using the bicycles we have here for your use. There is no public transport in Waipu, just the inter city bus that comes thru 3 or 4 times a day. There are beautiful beaches to discover where you can relax and sunbathe or perhaps go surfing or fishing. We have Glow Worm Caves just 14km from the motel where you can go to see these fascinating creatures in their natural habitat. Piroa Falls is a short drive away, ideal for a picnic and a swim in fresh mountain water. And our own museum in the village tells the wonderful story of the Great Migration of the original settlers.

My greatest criteria is reliability. Once you have accepted the offer to come and stay I expect you to follow through. I have had Workawayers let me down with only a few hours' notice which is not acceptable. Please give this consideration before you apply.

You also need to have a pleasant, outgoing personality and have the ability to get on with people in general. You must be polite and courteous to other guests and other volunteers at all times.

Accommodation

The accommodation is your own room in our lodge (downstairs in the main building). The room has tea/coffee/toast making facility and fans/heaters/electric blankets. Showers and toilets are just down the corridor.
No cooking is permitted in the rooms (for fire safety reasons)
There is a TV room where you can relax, and have your meals.

What else ...

There is no public transport in Waipu, so your own transport is an advantage. We do provide bicycles for your use (and a car may be available from time to time), so that you can get around and see the attractions in the district.

We have Glow worm caves for you to explore, beautiful streams and waterfalls to relax and have a picnic at, beautiful beaches for surfing/swimming/snorkelling. Plus our own musuem in the village, telling the story of the great migration of the original settlers - not to be missed.

There are shops open 7 days in the village which will cater for most of your needs. The Intercity bus (this comes through about 3 times a day) can take you to Whangarei should you wish, where all the major stores and banks are situated.

While you are staying here, I do expect you to abide by the house rules. Also, I do expect you to stay for the time you specify, not to use the opportunity as a jumping off point to go and discover other places. If you want to go away and return later, then this must be discussed before you accept my offer.

If you have any special dietary requirements please advise in advance so we can make sure we can accommodate this.
