Helping out at a motel in Waipu, NZ
Description
We are a busy motel/restaurant in the historic village of Waipu, 90 minutes north of Auckland and 30 minutes south of Whangarei - the Gateway to the North.
Claire and Peter are a mature couple, who have owned the motel for 4 years. Due to health problems we find we need help to keep up with the work and to keep the property looking well maintained.
We are happy to offer a workaway experience to interested persons in exchange for accommodation and meals.
We have found that couples are ideally suited, one to help with the domestic tasks and the other to help with the property maintenance etc.
We prefer non-smokers.
During your free time you are able to discover the district, using the bicycles we have here for your use. There are beautiful beaches to discover where you can relax and sunbathe or perhaps go surfing or fishing. We have Glow Worm Caves just 14km from the motel where you cango to see these fascinating creatures in their natural habitat. Piroa Falls is a short drive away, ideal for a picnic and a swim in fresh mountain water. And our own museum in the village tells the wonderful story of the Great Migration of the original settlers.

Accommodation
The accommodation is your own room in our lodge (downstairs in the main building). The room has its own TV, tea/coffee/toast making facility and fans/heaters/electric blankets. Showers and toilets are just down the corridor.
No cooking is permitted in the rooms (for fire safety reasons)
What else ...
There is no public transport in Waipu, so your own transport is an advantage. We do provide bicycles for your use, so that you can get around and see the attractions in the district.
We have Glow worm caves for you to explore, beautiful streams and waterfalls to relax and have a picnic at, beautiful beaches for surfing/swimming/snorkelling. Plus our own musuem in the village, telling the story of the great migration of the original settlers - not to be missed.
There are shops open 7 days in the village which will cater for most of your needs. The Intercity bus (this comes through about 3 times a day) can take you to Whangarei should you wish, where all the major stores and banks are situated.
If you have any special dietary requirements please advise in advance so we can make sure we can accommodate this.

This is a great place to work. Claire and Peter made me feel welcome, they are really friendly and fair. Claire is a great cook and if you have a sweet tooth, that's the right place for you! ;)
A nice place surrounded by scenic views, to spelunk glowwormcaves or spots just for chilling.
Thank you Claire and Peter for your hospitality!

Sophia was a very bubbly person, a pleasure to have stay with us. Her work ethic is excellent and she was quite happy to undertake any task we asked her to.
Her English language skills are great.
We wish her all the best in her travels, and we have no hesitation recommending her to any future hosts.
Auf Wiedersehen!

Sam and Amy stayed with us for a week at the end of February before travelling onto the South Island. Great company, hardworking, honest and very reliable, they fitted into our business very well.
Amy worked in the motel units, cleaning them after the overnight guests had left, and Sam worked on the property helping Peter with the gardens, and more
