Volunteer in the French countryside preparing gites.
Description
We are an English family of 4 who operate 2 gites in the beautiful French countryside. 1 hour south of Toulouse and 35 mins from Carcassonne. Help is needed with gardening and general maintenance. The 3 properties (we live in 1 of them) are situated in 3 hectares, with a private pool, a lake, spectacular views of the Pyrennees and very rural, we are 15 mins drive away from the closest town, where young night life is very limited. We have 2 dogs, a Boxer and a Terrier, a handful of chickens. Mums an artist and runs the gites and loves her big vegetable garden, (a great cook too), Dads a builder who needs to work to keep the 2 kids at college! We are a very easy going household.

Work
Jobs include, helping getting the 2 gites ready for the summer season, this involves a freshing up of paintwork and general cleaning and manintenance. The biggest part of the job is gardening, gardening and more gardening. We have all the equipment, strimmers, sit on mowers etc. We have lots of enthusiasm but not enough hours in the day to do it all ourselves. We are ideally looking for a couple to come and help get the gites and garden ready for the 2 middle weeks in May.

We have either a double bedroom in our house or if you prefer we have a mobile home that is more private. Whichever, we are perfectly happy to have you as part of our family when you are here.

The mum, artist is recovering from breast cancer, nothing too sinister, but needs a couple for backup if she is feeling tired on the guest changeover days.

Eimear and Ian came to stay as workaways in the summer of 2012. They have been a tremendous help to us, preparing our gites for our guests and responsible for all the changeovers. Debra and Peter have been lovely workaways, they helped with LOTS of gardening, using the sit on mower, the strimmer and even the hedge cutter. Gill and the Masters family have been excellent hosts and our friendship will hopefully last for a long time! :)

We had a very enjoyable November, staying/working for a month. We stayed in the main house and were made to feel very welcome - and were incredibly well catered for. We worked on some great projects, mostly outside around the grounds - check out the awesome cabin by the lake!!! Would be better suited to a couple, or friends rather than a lone more
We had the pleasure of staying here for two weeks and we wish we could have stayed longer! Everyone in the family was very welcoming and generous. John and Janelle have been the first workaways we have experienced here, they were the most delightful couple, worked very hard, had great initiative, showed good humour and were great to have around - I wanted to keep them! We truley hope to see them again someday.
