Area: Kentish,Hi we are Wouter and Elyse, Wouter is a CSA organic vegetable farmer coming from Belgium and Elyse is vet from Tasmania We're expecting a baby in a few months and are looking for some help around the place and obviously we like good company We have a block of land on which we are starting up an organic certified farm, with the focus on vegetables, production start within about a year and half. As we have only recently moved in this place there is a fair bit of work in setting up. Elyse grew up around this place and has together with her parents a small herd of milking goats for home use and blackberry control. Living self sustainable has allways been a major part of daily life. Wouter had a succesfull CSA vegetable farm in Belgium (for which this workaway page was use first) feeding more then 600 people for 10 months a year and have quite a few woofers usually. Now we decided to live here in Tasmania and build up a new farm. Lorinna is a pretty amazing part of Tasmamia, it lies at the very top of the Forth river, just out the lake st clair- cradle mountain National Park at lake Cethana, We have a lot of wildlife, beautifull forests, a beautifull lake for swimming and looking at, nice views over the mountains and Cradle Mountain. We live at about little less then an hours drive from Sheffield. Picking up can obviously be arranged. We live off grid, using solar panels for electricity and hot water firewood from our block for cooking, heating and hot water. delicious water from a creek. dry toilet We have an established orchard and a vegetable garden (currently only for home use) we grow some mushrooms. we make a bit of cheese from the goatsmilk and do a few different ferments ( like saurkraut,beer,wine,..) preserve our food all sorts of ways, ... This summer we're doing some renovations on the house, building a cob pizza oven, installing our hydrowheel for electricity and most important, expecting a baby :) Bits and pieces get started on the farm; setting up compost piles for later use in the seedling nursery, taking some trees down for clearing some fencelines, milling trees for building timber, chipping some of those brances for compost use, mowing for clearing and compost use. building some sheds and fences getting the vegetable paddock derocked by machine. building some walls with those rocks ... The current fotos are still from the farm in Belgium
Area: Veliko Turnovo.Help needed in October to prune trees. move plants and take seeds for next year. We are a friendly and easy going couple in our 50s who moved to central Bulgaria 5 years ago. Our house is 30 minutes out of the old capitol of Veliko Turnovo. The country garden is large with lots of trees , we also have a field that has not been in use for years, with old stone walls, some in need of tender loving care. Help in the garden, keeping down the weeds, creating borders and general garden work. Tree care and maintenance, some repair work on stone walls if possible, We would like our volunteers to feel at home and to enjoy their time with us. We would expect help 5 days a week for 5 hours a day. It is really hot over here and we would not expect anyone to do too much in the heat. So if it too hot for us to work then we think it is too hot for you. Anyone interested in Fishing would be able to go with Jim. He goes fishing at least once a week to get a break from me. Ha.Ha. There is a bar in our village and a couple of shops. There is a regular bus service to several towns. We have dogs who live outside, They are friendly. We are NOT vegetarians but I think I can put together a reasonable meal for those who are.
Area: New MexicoWe are a couple living on 5 acres that we are developing into an organic garden with orchard and fruiting shrubs. No children, but we have two dogs, a couple barn cats, and a flock of chickens - perhaps one day we'll get some goats! I am American and my husband is originally from West Africa. We eat just about anything, and some of our meat is locally raised and butchered. We are not vegetarians but will have plenty of vegetables fresh from the garden, and can accommodate people who don't eat meat. There are always fresh eggs from our hens as well. We don't smoke but do enjoy the occasional alcoholic beverage. No smoking is allowed in the house, but out of doors is okay. The dogs live inside but are quite friendly and love company.
