NOW LOOKING FOR FULLTIME CARETAKERS OF OUR PLACE (Please mention this when you apply for our place)
Hi, we have a big house and garden in Tigre Delta, at 35 km from the city center of Buenos Aires.
We are going backpacking ourselves, from half of March till the beginning of August.
so now we are looking for 1-2 persons to stay at our place and do the general maintenance.
Normally the place function as a B&B, but it will be low season, almost only in the weekends there will be guests.
We are looking for a couple of people we fulfill the following conditions/profile:
- guaranteed commitment from first/second week of march (a week before our departure) till first week of August strongly preferred
- Fair command of Spanish to be able to communicate with the neighbours, amongst others
- hands-on mentality and being handy. The garden is of a fair size, and needs continous upkeeping: mowing the lawn, raking the leaves, collecting the pecan nuts. Small repair jobs always occur.
- know what to do if electricity goes off again for a day or so. Also know how to handle high-water. flooding (water will rise statistically once to enter the ground floor)
- help with the general tasks of the B&B when there are guests (that will be almost exclusively in the weekends after half of April)
- no need to go to town frequently. It takes 2 hours to go the the city centre of Buenos Aires.
Each trip on the boat to or from tigre is 30 pesos (3 dollars)
What we offer is a beautiful spot in the nature, on a river, where you can stay in this case without paying rent or any bills. The only thing you have to pay for is your food and drinks (but we will leave some stock as well).
You will have to work a couple of hours per day, but for the rest you can just relax, read books, write, use internet (good wifi available), walk, kayak, play with the dogs, watch movies (we have some 500 on DVD), or whatever you like.
From august on, we will be back and our "normal" volunteering starts again:
We are a mixed intercultural couple. Carolina is from Argentina and works as an accountant and system consultant. she is working from home during the day from monday to friday . Stef is A dutch guy who studied cultural sciences and traveled a lot. He is at home most of the time but now starting to study in the city, so we need people to help and take our place when we are not at home. We both speak fluently English and Spanish.
The project is a fairly new Bed breakfast in the Tigre Delta. We opened July 2011.
What we need is help both inside and outside the house: with preparing the food, cooking, baking, setting breakfast, doing dishes, cleaning, changing sheets, laundry, bathrooms . Or whatever else you think that needs to be done.
At the garden to cut the lawn, mind the crops (planting, watering, harvesting) and some small construction and repair works.
Own initiative is needed, we don´t command people, we provide a schedule to organize yourself but we prefer you feel comfortable organizing your routine. Be creative and a self starter. It is a quiet place most of the time. the paying visitors mostly come during the weekends.
We prefer stays of about a 15 days at least, longer stays are possible and welcomed If we get along very well, there are no other volunteers coming and both enjoy it.
We have WIFI Internet free. There are kayaks to use, and we have many books, most in spanish, but also in english and french.
We try to be most sustainable possible, so we appreciate you take care do not waste water, recycling as much as possible and take care of consuming the food on time. Some people has nothing to eat,and we are lucky to have so dont put in the bin fruits than can be recovered (for doing jams by example).

Feedback left about host
I only stayed at this hostal for 2 nights and left after that time as there was 2 others and not many guests so I felt like there wasn't too much work to do.
Overall the hosts are amazing. I felt like part of the family and they even had a going away dinner for me! Homemade empanadas!
I think anybody that has the time should look after this more
The island setting of Casona del Rio provides the perfect opportunity to relax, reflect, and plan ahead for future adventures. We spent seven nights there with Stef and Caro, all of which we truly enjoyed.

We had some reasons to change our plans that were not predictable. We saw the positive recommendations and this was part of our decision to go here. We are doing a large trip and we would like to get in touch with the local people, for this workaway is a good option. We made two very great workaway experiences before and as we read the positive more
We were very lucky to have been accepted as volunteers by Carolina and Stef, with our small children it is difficult to find willing hosts - especially in the B&B business. They treated us like family, sharing their home and giving our kids all the freedom they wanted. The work was very flexible, both of us could do as much housework or gardening more
Kata and Ron helped us last january. They have special children education as they don´t feel fear of anything they do something we were very surprised. We appreciate the help they gave us as they do an effort to help us on the B&B in the meantime they are taking care of the children. Ron improves a lot our garden. I highly recommend him. Just more
This was a brilliant first workaway experience for us. We felt very welcomed and right at home on the first day. It´s a shame we didn´t get to meet Carolina and Stef as they were on holiday, but their family (Sonia, Javier and Fabricio) were such wonderful and friendly hosts for us. Highly reccomended and in a beautiful and unique location!
Hola, soy Jennifer y soy francesa.

Stef and Carolina are such welcoming people and we immediately felt comfortable in their home. We laughed a lot and shared so many wonderful memories. Each day we had an hour or two of regular duties (kitchen, laundry) then several hours of something else that needed to be done including working on the dock, baking sweets, washing the dogs, etc. more

Tabea and me had a very interesting week here. It was our first time workawaying, so we had some troubles in the beginning. For example, there were everytime something to be done in this hostel, so we did it and worked 12 hours a day. But as Carolina got to know that, we got a day off and worked less ;). Espacially the last days were really great. more

We appreciate the help of Mara and Tabea, as she explained there was a misunderstanding at the beginning but luckily solved quickly!
They were hard workers and very helpfull too. Also they are nice girls, sympha and learn easily how to do the job if they didn´t knew it.
Joss was a great helper in our place, because she's an experienced woman we didn't need to much to say to her as she was already repairing, cleaning, and ordering around the house.
We felt very comfortable with her positive attitude to carry the tasks and easy going to live with her.
We appreciate a lot her help in the time she has spent in our more

This place is great and I was immediately welcome as if I was family when I arrived! In the first few days of being there I got dress up like Santa Claus for the family, I received christmas gifts and ate great food everyday! Lovely and loving people, in a beautiful place! I had a spectacular time there! This was my first workaway experience and more
These folks are amazing. They are really interested in making new friends and inviting you into their lives. The house is a prison paradise. There are no streets and no were to go, but the quiet beauty and kayaking on the river was exactly what i needed. i saw no cars and didn't put my shoes on for a week. Two great dogs, as a bonus.
