Description
We are a family of five (Michaela, Pavel, Meda, Ada and our dog) living in a small village in Hostyn hills (Hostýnské vrchy). We are former classmates from high school who fell in love and married a few years after graduation. Shortly after our wedding, we moved to our house and got a cute White Swiss Shepherd. He is fluffy, very good with kids, and loves cuddling and his ball. We have two daughters (Meda 6 & Ada 3).
We care about our environment, and we try to live sustainably.
We believe that education is a natural lifelong process happening in every moment of our lives. That's why we have decided our children won't attend any school.
Both of us work mostly from home – Pavel is a software developer, and Michaela is part-time working for an ecological NGO. We love good coffee, white wine & vegan food. Pavel enjoys music (actively and passively), and Michaela is a bookworm and sauna lover.
Our house was built one hundred years ago. It is a typical house for our area using stones and mudbricks. Although we initially fell in love with it, after a few years of living here, we decided the place needed to be renovated. The goal was combine old and modern architecture. Therefore, we have been radically redoing our house for the past three years, and there is still much to do. We had moved out during the renovation and finally moved back in last year.
We spent a few months in Belgium during our studies and had a chance to go to a Workaway place. We promised to make a Workaway place when the time comes. And it is here. Before the renovation, we hosted two girls, which was a wonderful experience. Now, when the hardest part of reconstruction is over, we are again open to hosting someone. As we are occupied with the daily care of our two kids and our dog, and it is not so easy to travel around the world with them, we want to welcome you here at our place and bring the world to us.Types of help and learning opportunities

We can show you the beauties of our region, teach you a bit of the Czech language, cook you vegan meals, and give you tips for living (almost) zero waste and minimalist life. We can lend you bikes for exploring.

Help
We have no particular requirements. But there is always something to do. Our house is not finished yet (although it's comfortable for living), so there are plenty of tasks to do. Especially now, during the summer, there is plenty of stuff to do around the house. We would also appreciate someone with gardening skills and, better yet, someone familiar with permaculture principles of gardening (as we are not at all and would like to learn something). We would appreciate if you could help us cook, walk our dog occasionally, or be with our daughters. It is a must that you love children and dogs if you want to stay with us :) We are happy to welcome whoever is proactive and positive. If you are more craftsman & builder type, doing things around the house is ok. If you love to be with kids, we (and our girls) would be more than happy that you spend time with them, or if you love to cook, you can be in the kitchen and help with the house chores. We are open to discussing what you want to do the most.

You will stay in your own room on the second floor with mattresses (sheets and blankets included). The toilet, bathroom, and kitchen are shared with us. We do not eat or serve any meat, and we wish you respect that during your stay. Thank you in advance.
What else ...
Our village is a great starting point for walks or bicycle rides. You can find many marked trails in this area. You can visit nearby towns Kromeriz (UNESCO), Zlin (an industrial city, the birthplace of Bata’s shoes), Roznov pod Radhostem (with an open-air rural folk museum), or Holesov (a unique Jewish synagogue and a baroque castle). If you feel like doing nothing, you can always rest in our garden, listen to birds singing, lie in a hammock, or do whatever you wish.
There are some buses going throw the village during the day, and the nearest town, Bystrice pod Hostynem, is about 20 minutes by walk.A little more information

I travelled with a friend; very last-minute, yet we felt very welcome. Pavel and Micha are so nice and helpful: they always replied really quickly and gave us tips about public transport. They picked us up by car and if they had to go somewhere, they gave us a lift so we could… read more
