Description
We live on a permaculture homestead on 3 hectares, a 10 min walk to the centre of Medina Sidonia, a small rural town in Cádiz, Andalucía.
We have fruit trees, vegetable patch and chickens.
I hope that people who come here learn how to live more gently on our beautiful planet and with a lot less material 'stuff" and a lot less waste. Your contribution helps me protect this beautiful place and its biodiversity while I work full time.
We are a bilingual English/Spanish family that believes that all religions are equal and to be respected.
Many people want to come and learn Spanish. This is unrealistic. Volunteers need to connect to each other so the main communication language depends on the group. Find a way to have conversations lessons in town. If you have a decent level of Spanish and can communicate we can certainly switch to Spanish and help improve it if everyone else speaks Spanish.
I work full time as a teacher during the week so you need to be a very proactive, independent problem-solver! I require a minimum 2 week stay.
This autumn 2024 I am specifically looking for help to load up photos of stuff I need to sell on to a website.
It is hard physical work here generally walking up and down on a slope constantly. You need to get a kick out of physical labour and enjoy the tired sensation of a job well done.
Throwing food in the bin hurts my soul.... and we try to eat from the vegetable patch so it doesn't go into the Compost bin.... slightly less soul damage!
We eat meat occasionally but happy to adjust to other different requirements so long as complicated cooking is lead by those in need.
Smokers - Cigarette smoke really affects my body so it needs to be far away from me
We share our space with a dog and 4 cats.
Looking forward to interviewing you for our project!Types of help and learning opportunities

After 10 years hosting volunteers what they take away from being here is reconnecting. This space has a very special energy and helps people see clearly who they are.
I am learning to connect and work with earth amd plant energies and how to honour them. Happy to share these with those interested
Tangible skills are basic living hanits with less water, solar electriicty and avoiding food waste. Learning to water, weed, strim, prune.
Observation, self organisation and proactivity - overcoming that hump of "I don't know" (not an expert), saiting for someone else to.tell you and just experimenting and learning from mistakes.
I have an permaculture library for those who want to research.Projects involving children
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.

The work was interesting, a lot independent, and you could bring your own ideas into it. Also there was always room for appreciating.
Last but not least Kerry supported us in getting to know the region.
