Description

We are not taking any volunteers for winter 2014-15, we begin taking volunteers again mid-May through the summer. We are restructuring things a bit for the upcoming season, so please read the following.
This year we are looking for two extra special volunteers (in addition to our usual great and hardworking volunteer crew) who can stay for at least 6 weeks to two months in the summer.
Volunteer Manager is one position which requires interpersonal skills, excellent work ethic, creative problem solving and a previous experience with tools and/or manual labor. If you would like to be considered for the role of Volunteer Manager, please specify this in your email to us.
We are also looking for a House Cook/Cookie, this person is a flexible cook with an ability to whip up tasty meals on a budget, both vegetarian options as well as meat. Baking skills is a plus, but not necessary as you might also be helping in our summer cafe. If you are interested in the position of Cookie, please specify your experience in your email to us. These two positions require an extended stay with us, a good character reference and a skype interview.
We also take a number of all around friendly and hard working volunteers to which you may apply, no previous experience necessary, only a willingness to work and a good attitude.

We live in a 127 year old school house in a beautiful, natural setting with hiking, biking, fishing, swimming, berry and mushroom gathering just outside our door. We are renovating this house to make it into an art, craft and culture center. We are 4 in the family with husband, wife and two daughters aged 9 and 5.

Help

We are looking for easy-going individuals, couples or families that have a great work ethic and attitude. We can train interested parties in the skills we need and in the winter we do not take volunteers, only from mid-may through the summer and part of September. We would love to have handy folks who know their way around a hammar, saw, ruler and spackle, but it is not necessary. There is always a lot to do here and the best thing our volunteers have is a willingness to do new things!

PLEASE READ: This year we have received a lot of volunteer requests. Please, if you write to us and we let you know we have space, then be considerate and let us know if you are going to cancel. Then we will give your place to some other traveler. Know your Workaway etiquette!

Languages spoken

English, Swedish, French, some German and Spanish

Accommodation

Our volunteers can stay in one of our bedrooms on the first floor, sometimes a shared room divided by sex (we don't place men and women in same room, unless you're a couple!). Shared bathroom and shower. All meals provided with work exchange. We do not take vegan volunteers however, but flexible vegetarians are welcome to apply. Heating in our large home is with wood so it is not always as warm as a modern home, but it is spacious, clean with large windows throughout.

What else ...

Great opportunity to live in nature among the flora and fauna. Beavers, foxes, owls, moose are our neighbors.
