Area: Pays de la LoireI'm a French and English teacher at a vocational school and the mother of a 14 year old boy. We live in a flat but we have a private garden. Our home is located in the city-center but it's very quiet where we live. Public transport is 100 meters away from the house. I'm very fond of my job and I like to read and listen to music. My son loves to speak English and he can also speak some Chinese.
Area: South AustraliaFriendly young family living on a remote sheep and cattle station. Busy, busy, busy! In a nutshell... Sheep, dogs, school of the air, little kids, goats, cattle, jackaroos, jillaroos, snakes, drought, all you would expect to find in the bush (let's make that dirt). It's very dry here at the moment as we are in the clutches of a drought, let's hope it rains soon;) As quoted by the workaway couple that just left here... "true australian experience"
Area: Mato Grosso do SulMy partner and I have created an art/cultural space in the small rural town of Miranda in the Pantanal (wetlands) of Brasil. We offer several classes to the community for free such as English, yoga, juggling, magic and world religions. We also paint anamorphic images both in our space and for the municipality. And we have a free cinema where we show films every Saturday night and sometimes on weeknights. Right now we are constructing a yoga studio made out of glass bottles and most of the work has to do with that. There is a severe crack epidemic in town and a complete lack of social services to address this issue. There are virtually no community projects to offer activities for children or adolescents. Our project's aim is to help fill that vacuum. Some of the children who frequent our space are crack addicts who we're trying to help get off of crack. We have no private or public funding. All of the resources are generated by us. One of us is a naturalist and is male so if you are uncomfortable with nudity, it would be difficult for us to host you. Cigarettes are not welcome here- if you're a smoker, we cannot accommodate you. If you're a vegetarian or vegan or have other specific dietary needs, you'll need to prepare your own meals. We have two cats. Meow. Any questions send us a message. We look forward to hearing from you!
Area: North Malaga ProvinceWe live in Malaga province, just north of Antequera which is a stunning location and within easy reach of all the main Andalucian cities. We have an adventure sports company that we are building up at the moment . My husband, also does a lot of building work and runs cultural tours. I own and teach in an English academy and we also have a classroom at home, so you must be child friendly as you often get roped into helping with the classes. Life is always hectic as we have a 7yr old boy, dogs everywhere and 2 cats!!! Normally, you will have your own room and a shared bathroom and 3 meals a day. How you could help us?, well anything goes from building, child care, helping with the adventure sports when needed. You name it, I am sure we have it!! We have a fairly large house or if a little more privacy was required, when not in use, a caravan.
Area: Coimbra and CenterI'm Fernando, 32, managing a very rural farm in the heart of Serra da Malcata. The main produce of this 66 hectare farm (163 acre), is goat keeping, but we've also several other animals, like pigs, chickens, turkeys, gooses, ducks, dogs, cats and so on. Also olives and some vegetables. The farm is located in a Natural Reserve and you can use this as a base to explore Serra da Malcata, an unspoilt part of the Portuguese countryside. Hike up the River Bazágueda and visit old mill ruins. Walk in the hills, home of red, lynxs, woolfs, genets and wild boars and enjoy the stunning mountain scenery. Take the goats for a walk in the woods, side by side with native Portuguese shepherd dogs and you'll have an unforgettable experience. Back at home, cherish the view of the waterfront, feed the pigs, chickens and turkeys (endogenous breeds) , and, if you're lucky, you'll be able to feed some baby goats. Unwind and enjoy true nature. Bike riding and licended fishing are also allowed. We can and will certanly do some traditional homemade specialities. We also, depending on the season, make cheese for ourselves. We're now restoring some old country traditional houses maid of stone (schist) and using traditional materials and techniques. In the freetime you can enjoy the river, bathing in pure water! Conveniently located within half an hour drive of dozens of historic sites, you can visit Castle of Penamacor or the Medieval Villages of Sortelha, Sabugal, among others, and get a sense of the local flavor. Step back in time and experience the simple pleasures of medieval lifestyle. In other free hours, we like to discuss everything and would love to learn and teach other languages with volunteers!
