Area: LeinsterWe have a smallholding in County Kildare with an acre of completely untamed garden and several acres of peatland. So far we have done some filling and some drainage and put in a shelter belt of trees. We have a commitment to sustainable living. We are using recycled materials for wall building, paving etc and our plan is to turn the main plot into an organic garden with an adjoining area for specific acid soil plants. The remainder will be preserved as perpetual raised bogland with its natural flora. We need very able-bodied help to assist with clearing vegetation, and other general work and building. Our Dublin site also requires help with cleaning and maintenance of buildings, grounds, vehicles and equipment, gardening, yard work, dealing with callers, housework and help with catering. We provide transport between the accommodation and the smallholding. We welcome applications from individual volunteers or two friends or brothers who wish to travel together. Handyman or mechanical skills would be a definite advantage, as would a driving-licence. However, you are still welcome without these abilities.
Area: MadridWe are a 5 member family. There are three children of 8-11-14 years old. We live in the countryside, on a plot of 2000m2. There's a dog and three cats. We live in Madrid´s mountains, 50 minutes from the capital, near El Escorial. The area is spectacular, walks, landscapes, tranquility. Because we are Spanish, we are restless, driven, noisy ... "typical spanish" and very hospitable. We like healthy living, organic food, and participate in the social life of our community. / Somos una familia de 5 miembros. Hay tres niños de 7 a 14 años. Area: BasilicataWe are a friendly, married English, young at heart couple who have built our own luxury Masseria in southern Italy where we now enjoying early retirement (but we are by no means in the slippers brigade!) We chose this part of the world because of our love of real Italian culture, food and wine. Life can't get any better than down in the south where we experience 'real' Italy every single day that we are here. Everything from the slow pace of life to discovering living life as it was years ago. We love our food and grow much of our own produce from which my husband (the chef of the two of us), creates wonderful meals. I am not so creative in the kitchen but I do enjoy baking. We have two cats who live inside and 1 small dog who lives outside (we rescued her from death) so you should be animal lovers. We are situated in a beautiful, rural location, with the house sitting on its own 9 acre hill with the most amazing 360 degree views across rolling countryside. The nearest town is Montescagliso which is a ten minute drive away. The nearest city is Matera, which is famous for being the film location for Mel Gibsons Passion of the Christ. Matera became nominated as a Unesco World Heritage site in 1993 and is a 15 minute drive away. It's a bustling city with lots of bars, restaurants, coffee shops anof course great shopping. Matera consists of the old town known as the Sassi where people have dwelled in caves for 4000 years. The new part of the city is where you find the modern day shops. It's an amazing place to explore if you enjoy cultural experiences, history and architecture. There are also jaw dropping landscapes if you enjoy painting or photography. We love hosting workawayers and we've made some lovely friends through this site. We see it as a win/win on both sides. You help us with our projects which would take too long to complete on our own and we host you in luxury accommodation and show you the best that Italy has to offer. We welcome you as part of the family where you will work hard but also have lots of fun and laughter whilst we enjoy fantastic home grown and prepared food.
Area: ConnachtWe live on the scenic West coast of Ireland - between the towns of Newport & Westport in County Mayo. I live with 3 children (17 year old girl, 15 year old boy & 11 year old boy), 4 dogs & 4 cats in a large house in the country, surrounded by fields & 70 metres from the sea. It is a very beautiful, quiet and safe place for children to grow up in. I run a very small English Language school (9 students at a time). The students range in age from 9-16 years old. They stay with us in our house, I provide formal language lessons during the morning and then organise for sporting / cultural / historical activities for them during the afternoons. They stay with us for a 2 week period. It's a home from home for the students, many of whom are "repeats" and all of whom are recommended by friends or family as I don't advertise anywhere.
