Area: AucklandHi. We are a couple with a cat and three chooks in Auckland's city fringe Sandringham, also known as little India for its stunning food and spice shops. NZ's favourite mall St Lukes is 5minutes away. Our house is a beautiful small 1920s bungalow on a 685 squaremeter property. We have planted over 45 fruit trees, have a good size vegetable garden and when you look at our prolific banana 'trees' you know that you have landed in the Pacific. We garden as organic as we can, collecting materials from everywhere, and that can be fun and adventurous. We have a strong commitment to sustainable living and I make basically DIY everything, from body cream to dishwashing powder, from cheese to preserves and of course baking real bread in our DIY pizza oven, beer brewing from scratch, mead brewing, destilling spirits, etc. Our accommodation is quite rough, a small loft with pacific flavour in our new garden shed and we still need to build a fixed ladder for it. But that's only for sleeping, our house has solar Photovoltaic,is mostly double glazed and fully insulated (novelty here!) and we have a pellet heater so the house is very cozy. There will be a little quiet morning disturbance when Ricky gets her bike which is parked in there. One of us is currently not working which is a great time to have guests as we can do a revamp of my veggie garden together Cuban Permaculture style and I have time to show you around and take you through the city to places you would never see as a tourist. Our house volcano is Maunga Owairaka, Mt Albert, fitness depending is prob 30 minutes to the top. it gives you a great view of the city and you can count all the other nearby volcanoes (57 in Auckland) . If you are a jogger, there's a challenge to get up and down at least 5 or 6 volcanoes in our immediate neigbourhood. Our suburb is probably the only landlocked suburb, it is a disturbing 7 minutes to the next swimming beach via car, 20 minutes via bicycle. ;-) We like to play games in the evenings as we have no TV but heaps of DVD movies and wireless internet available. I am also part,of two transition towns and immersed in many community projects around sustainability and food initiatives.
Area: Southern BavariaHello Wanderer, Eva lives with her parents Franz and Anna in a small house around one hour away from Munich. We keep seven sheep, some chicken, four ducks and five bee colonies. We farm an area of around 2 hectares where a small field with field crops is situated and some young fruit trees and young hedge-rows. Everything here is still young and on the way of growing. As Eva works four days/week in Munich she seeks help to keep the place in a proper shape. The main tasks are related to - renovating the 40-year-old somehow ramshackle house we live in (all kinds of crafts like carpentary, building, plumbing, electricity and so on) - working on the fields or in the garden, mainly with hand tools You are free to help according to your skills and interests. It is essential that you are able to communicate in German, so this is your place if you like to improve your language skills (and ours in your language if it is one of the mentioned!) You'd spend the most of the time with Eva's parents Franz and Anna. Please keep in mind, that we have no internetaccess. If you have a smartphone you probably have access in our village. 10 km away there's an internet cafe and we can take you there. Be prepared to be pestered with questions about your country. We think workaway is for us a possibility to travel without moving. The village is very quiet and sleepy. It is a good place to be before you head to the next lively city or if you like to get away from noise and distraction. The only "attraction" might be a beergarden or loads of books (german language) we can offer you from our library. Eva loves to go hiking or sightseeing and she will take you with her, if you like. Feel free to be free over here. Thank you for reading!

Area: England/Welsh BorderOur names are Ed and Rowena. We are a couple with four teenage children. Our home is in a very rural area and we live on a small holding with goats, sheep, horses, pigs, poultry, cats and dogs. We are building a house which has been filmed on Grand Designs. It is a roundy eco house and can be seen on UK TV Channel Four 'Grand Designs Herefordshire House'.
