    Description

We are an intentional community. It is the home of some 14 adults and 3 children who live, work and have fun together. We live together because by sharing and co-operating, we manage to live more lightly on the land and our lives are enriched in many ways.

We are privileged to live in a large manor house in rural Devon with 6 acres of land, historic walled gardens and orchards and a paddock which is used for camping. We grow as much of our own food as we can in the walled gardens, outside and indoor growing space, including two poly-tunnels and a greenhouse. We also keep chickens and bees.

Everything we do is developed with an awareness of the impact of our work and lives on the environment. We recycle as much waste as we can and strive to reduce our consumption of energy. We grow our own vegetables and fruit organically. We have compost toilets which we encourage visitors to use, and we process our sewage with a reed bed sewage treatment system.
We have a biomass boiler and wood burning stoves for heating, as well as a wind turbine and solar panels.

We regularly host volunteers to help us and to be able to share our lovely space, and to share skills and experiences and to enable people to see what living in a community is like. We love the new energy that volunteers bring and we value what they contribute and the cultural exchange.

We run organised weeks where groups of individual volunteers come to help with seasonal tasks - gardening, firewood preparation, maintenance - as well as a small project like building a new compost toilet.

    There is usually a mixture of indoor and outdoor stuff depending on the season. In 2016 our dates are 9th - 16th April, 21st - 28th May, 3rd - 10th September and 19th - 26th November 2016

We also have longer term placements for volunteers to live and assist us in the community and to look on specific tasks with specific skills.

We also like them to help with organising the volunteer weeks. In 2016 these will be 20th May - 20th July - we are looking for a carpenter who can help revamp our camping kitchen and 3rd September - 5th November we are looking for an experienced gardener to help harvest our organic produce and get our garden ready for winter.

We provide volunteers with accommodation and vegetarian, organic food, friendly and supportive environment and a group experience of living within an intentional community.

    What else ...

We are in a beautiful part of rural Devon, with plenty of opportunities for walking in the countryside and on the moors and beaches. We are close to a market town and the historic city of Exeter, which has a university and everything you would expect of a city.

Nearby in the village is a lovely pub, and at home we are able to organise film nights, music etc.
We try to organise a trip to a local event during the week.
There are local trains and buses.

We offer long term volunteers the opportunity to attend a free English Language course, twice a week, in the local town. Also offer references and the opportunity to help co-ordinate, with community members support, a volunteer week. We will include this responsibility in a reference.
