Area: East of Norway, Oppland county

Although we are living on a traditional farm (we are 11th and 12th generation farmers), my boyfriend and I don't lead a traditional family life. Our children (five in total) are between 12 and 17 years old. The farm and the family today, live by the land and the wood. There are horses, and other small animals on the farm. I, Anne Helene am building up, and starting an organization that will help young people that have problems with coping in ordinary schools. I’ve been also enjoying volunteering as a refugee guide for a woman from Eritrea. This family has a long tradition (17 years) of having people various ages from many countries around the world staying through different exchange and volunteer programs. The children speak English fluently. We therefore have good experience in making the workers time with us as exciting and fun as possible. The family enjoy both Norwegian food traditions, as well as we are curious to learn more about new food traditions that new workers bring to our home. We have also learned much about vegetarian food through the years. There are two houses with apartments, and a small cabin on the farm. A several young professionals rent apartments on the farm so they are part of our small “community”. We also have a mountain farm. It is one of five mountain farms situated in the same area, within the borders of "Langsua" National park at the entrance to Jotunheimen, 970 m.a.o. Spåtind is the higest mountain in the area, 1414 m.a.o Together with the community, a museum and the owners and keepers of the mountain farms, we are planning to start a new project, to protect the nature, and restore the old buildings in the area. The farm has a small workshop and a cleaners, where local people can wash, clean and repair leather and thick fabrics (horse equipment, belts and so on). This will be a part of the school program for the young pupils.

Area: Vesteraalen/Lofoten

Anytime: Skilled plumbers or concreters. ***** Our lighthouse is the only property on a small island in the Norwegian sea in the arctic part of Norway. We are about to build up the lighthouse as a special guestplace with rooms for rent, a cafe, a green garden with potato land and a herbal garden. Everything grown here is ecological. We are self sufficient with water, energy & transport. The place is unique, and so are the people coming here to help out gradually turning this place into a lighthouse with a big soul. I live here all year long, so volunteers are welcome any season. Thanks to the Gulf Stream the climate is mild and relatively warm - taken into consideration it is beyond the polar circle!
