Area: EnglandMy husband is a retired Local Government Accountant and I was a Food Adviser with a national Company after a career in Teaching. We are active seniors with 3 daughters and 1 son who all live away. We have 7 grandchildren. Keith builds model boats and I love all kinds of needlework including machine embroidery, patchwork, screen printing, textile manipulation. We both love reading, walking, golf and learning Italian. I am a member of a new Women's Institute and the Embroiderers' Guild. PLEASE NOTE WE CAN ONLY ACCOMMODATE ONE PERSON.
Area: UmbriaI have a small self-catering holiday business. I am widow in my mid 60's and live in an apartment upstairs and there are two further apartments for holiday let downstairs. I have a swimming pool, quite a reasonable size garden, a vegetable Orto and a small olive grove of 40 young trees. This place is situated between two villages each 2km away. I am looking for help in March , mostly outside work preparing my property for guests so I need fit, competent mature(ish) DIYers and gardeners to paint, carry out simple maintenance and dig over & plant up my veg patch. I am happy to accept couples too. I like to work alongside whenever possible and what has worked well so far has been to work mornings for 4 hours, six days a week, leaving Sundays and afternoons free for everyone, but if helpers want a day off to explore further afield that's fine too. Lago Trasimeno (4th largest Lake in Italy) is 10km away and there are two other smaller lakes nearby. It is a beautiful location on a proper road and there is a very limited bus service I grow my own veg and sell my olive oil to clients when I have enough. The olive grove is grown organically and I try to grow my vegetables as organically as possible. Helpers have the use of one of my two bedroom apartments (which will need to be cleaned on leaving!)and live self catering or eat with me whichever you prefer. I like cooking, am a meat eater but can cope with vegetarian preferences, however more specialized food regimes will need to cater for themselves There are bikes, internet access, sky TV/video and a DVD available for helpers use and I a like to include hepers in my life during their stay if they wish to be part of it. Any potential helpers must be animal lovers because I have two large friendly dogs (labrador & labrador cross), three cats and four chickens all of which are gentle and friendly.
Area: LazioI am German and live in Italy since 15 years together with my Italian Husband. We just moved to a new house near an old village in the countryside 60 km from Rome with four cats. I am a sculptor and a part time art teacher in an American School in Rome. My husband teaches visual improvement in Italy and in Spain. We live in a beautiful countryside, it is called the Sabina, where a lot of other foreigners are living. I work mainly at home and my husband works often in the weekend in other places. We do also Yoga and I go on horseback. We are not strictly vegetarian but try to eat healthy and little meat. We need some help in the garden, and other little works around and inside the house.
Area: Natural Parc of Morvan - Burgundy - departement of Saône et Loire - About 25km south from the town of Autun - An hour drive from Chalon sur Sâone - 1h45 drive from Dijon, the capital of BurgundyWe are living , my partner Tony (from Liverpool) and I (Claire, french) on a family land in south of Morvan, a granitic area at the heart of Burgundy, part of the natural parc of Morvan. The place, and the village are very special for it's one of the 3 bigger granitic areas of France, so the natural site is classified and protected. The main interest is nature, hiking (300km of path from us), fishing... The nearest village with shops is at 10km ; there is a bar-restaurant just nearby. there are many places of interest about an hour's radius drive: the roman Autun, the medieval abbey and town of Cluny, the Celts capital Bibracte, Chalon on the Saône river...and of course Beaune, Nuits-Saint- Georges and the wine area... Our place is quiet big (10 hectares of fields - 10 hectares of forests), with several buildings, spring water, fresh air, wild birds and animals... A farmer is actually taking care of the fields. We came back in my birth area only a year and an half ago, after long trips around the world and many different experiences. This land here is beautiful, strong and rough (due to the granite and the relatively high altitude for the area - 680m), with a big potential to be developed about agriculture (we already have a reasonably big permaculture garden and plan to have bees soon) but also about handicraft (Claire is creating cloths, hats, bags...from recycled fabrics and is selling them on markets since 5 years; a local shop is to be developed soon and partnership with other artisans is on its way ). There is also a bread oven here to be refitted and putted back to use. And when we don't work on all that, we play music together (irish songs and folk rock...) or paint ! Our plan is to turn this place into an eco-village which could welcome and home several people, for short or long, eventually very long term...depending of the feeling ! It's a good opportunity to enjoy the gorgeous nature around, learn about gardening, and life close to nature, enjoy to prepare nice preservation and specialties from the garden, or help tony on his building projects...and join the band for music playing at night , after a good meal !
Area: Midi PyreneesWe are Jon and Kate and we have two young boys. We live in a small farmhouse set within five acres in an idyllic mountain setting in the French Pyrenees. Its a peaceful location with deer grazing in the garden although its only 5 minutes from the lovely market town of Aspet. We have bikes which you can borrow to explore the area. We are currently renovating the house, looking after sheep and chickens and trying to create a productive vegetable garden. Kate loves cooking and baking and will make sure that you are well fed with our own home reared pork, chicken and lamb. Last year we created a potager using organic principles with the intention of becoming as self sufficent as possible.
