Help wanted at the nicest spot in New Zealand for a great Kiwi experience!

Hi & welcome to NZ. We need help year round. We'll help you with your English if needed. We have a 50 acre farm in the middle of NZ's largest Scenic Reserve in the Bay of Plenty Province. The animals here are 24 Free Range Cows with calves, 50 sheep, numerous chickens & 20 Dogs/Puppies. Organically we keep everything chemical free & grow & preserve some of our own food. Its real food! We offer food, your own private cottage, 1 hour of internet for email daily, tv & a unique real kiwi experience in exchange for 4 hours work daily. For fun there is river kayaking, nature walks, glow-worms, trout fishing, river swimming, guitar (will help get you started if you like), music & are ten minutes from some of the best beaches in NZ. Mike is a born & bred kiwi & as true to the country Kiwi way of life you will find. Greta is from Finland. We are planet, environmental & animal friendly. "Free Range is the ONLY way" NON Smokers only please.

Work can be a variety of things such as helping with day to day general farm work, helping Mike train sheep & cattle dogs some basics like come here & sit(Mike will teach you), weeding, gardening, planting veges, painting, trimming hedges, mowing the lawn, collecting firewood from the rivers edge with quad motor bike, collecting free range chicken eggs. Nothing to hard & you don't need an previous experience. We treat everyone as individuals & work within their personal abilities & try to give you new experiences. Its a great opportunity for a variety of different work & lifestyle experiences. 4 hours work daily is all thats required. Our farm is 10 minutes (16km) from the town of Opotiki where the Intercity & Naked buses stop. Maybe we will see you soon. Greta & Mike

I get dogs & puppies from all over the North Island. Some have been abused & negelected & bring them home to evaluate them & train them to work stock & try to find them good homes on farms as cattle/sheep dogs. We don't eat massed produced cruel factory farmed meat or eggs or products produced by child labour. We are into living off the land for main sources of food, eating organicly & ethicly friendly. We do eat organic meat from the bush. We are also very environmentally friendly in our living. We also cater to vegetarians & understand all that as Mike used to be one myself. Margaret is probably the best worker we have ever had here in 8 years of having woofers, helpers, workawayers come here. she gets stuck in & gets the job done. if anyone has paid work for her she is well worth contacting.

Mike and Greta have a beautiful piece of land and a very welcoming home. They made me feel like I was doing a good job and that they were very grateful for my help. Mike took extra time to teach me things about farm life and raising dogs. I feel like I am taking a very positive experience from my time with them. Thanks for everything Mike and more
I spent 6 days in that awesome place! I enjoyed my work of painting the the windows of the house, weeding and mowing the lawn!!! I had a great time with Mike! learning how to train dogs for cattle! it was so much fun! and we even played the guitar together and sang!

I spent 8 days with Mike and Greta and had a really good time over there! Nice work (painted the house), great food and nice atmosphere :-) Loved your cakes Greta! Good luck with your baby and take care! Thanks for the nice time I had, cheers Jule
Jule stayed with us for 8 days. we can highly recommend her to anyone needing a great helper & excellent person to be around. she virtually painted our house by herself, helped in the kitchen & was a pleasure to be around. she is always welcome back. she learnt the guitar real fast so if anyone needs a helper & you have a spare guitar contact her more

The week with Mike, Greta and the dogs was very special for me. It took me much time to get used to their way of living in the bush. Also the work was hard for me, but when we started house painting it was okay.

I have spent two weeks with Mike & his family and it was really important experience for me (my first in volunteering). His farm surrounded by beautiful country, which truly represents real New Zealand´s nature.
It was a nice time I spent there. I would certainly recommend Mike´s spot to everybody who wants to experience real rural Kiwi´s more

Dominik was here at my farm for 2 weeks. During that time we did numerous physcial tasks. Dominik is a good hard worker, willing to learn, has good english understanding, polite, efficient, reliable & adaptable to name a few. I would throughly recommend anyone needing a good helper to hire him. He is more than welcome to come back here at any more

Mike was a great host, he taught me quite a bit and he was always fair, generous and straight forward. He was very understanding when my bus passed his place. Mike showed me a time that was not seen by many tourists. I enjoyed pushing myself for Mike and he made me a harder worker for it, and as Mike put it himself "work ethic is everything". more

Tanaonthelake looked after my farm while i was overseas for a month. Feeding cattle, walking & feeding 8 dogs & cats (my family) & general farm & house care. She gave my house a lot of tlc & even painted the inside to my surprise & delight & oiled my wood floors!!! There is no one on this planet who could be more reliable & trusting. There is so more
Mike was a great teacher and gave me all the information step by step so I was in a position to do my best. Mike is very generous with everything, including his appreciation and I found him extremely considerate. Mike also has a wicked sense of humor and often had me in tears! He's a great guy!
