Description

We are looking for energetic, hardworking musicians, artists, craftspeople, and stage managers to trade work for a shared room (low season) or private tent (high season) at our beautiful monastery , the headquarters of our intentional art community.

The Project seeks to create world-class art by applying monastic principles to art-making instead of religion. We are transforming a monastery an hour-and-a-half NE of Rome, in the town of Labro, into an international non-profit arts production center. While the monastery is a functioning hotel, we are focusing on art production and educational workshops.

Work

As we figure out the new systems at our new location, we need help organizing the living quarters & office, making intricate hand-painted signs, building a lovely and sturdy BBQ, baking bread, making yogurt, and doing online marketing. We are especially interested in Italian speakers and people who can drive a stick shift car. If you have artistic or musical skill, we might involve you in a project.

We have a special position opening up in mid-July for someone who is self-motivated and super good with people. We need someone who can commit to being from mid-July through the beginning of September to be the team leader of the other volunteers.

English, some Italian, some Spanish, some German, some Dutch

Accommodation

In the off season, we offer a shared room. In the high season, we ask that you bring a tent and camp on the grounds.

What else ...

We are a community of professional artists and we speak English pretty much all the time. We invite you to join us in meditation and nature walks but this is certainly not required or even expected. We are always looking for future long-term community members, so if you really fit in, there is that potential. We have 1 chicken, 1 cat, 1 dog, and a gorgeous monastery.

I planned on staying only two weeks during March, and ended up extending my volunteer time because this is a wonderful place! The creators of the project are truly loving inspirational people. The atmosphere of open communication creates a great work environment and I encourage anyone to volunteer here!
Thank you for an amazing experience!

I stayed here in Feb 2010. I had a wonderful time. The property and the views are stunning. And the hosts are awesome. They are fun and intelligent and really made me feel at home.
The Santa Brigida was only just opening back up after being closed for the winter, so it was quiet and not a lot going on with lots of people yet but it was still enchanting. They had me doing some cleaning, moving of wood, some art projects and I made some Limoncello (the first stage).
I look forward to going back very soon!! I highly recommend this experience!

I stayed here a week, and fell in love with the place. It was in November, so not much going on with guests and programs, just being at the Casale was wonderful, and my hosts were welcoming and friendly. They had me cleaning, and working in the garden, and caring for the chickens. I highly recommend this place! -Wendy

-> Liesl

Liesl is fantastic. She executed every task we gave her with cheerful verve. She went above and beyond, noticing other things that needed doing and taking the initiative to deal with it. She's self-motivated, smart, fun, knowledgeable and has a can-do attitude. I'm hoping she comes back and stays with us longer next time!
