Area: ConnachtLooking for help in November and later. Short term helpers very welcome, but also looking for a longer term helper, Come and join me on my six acre smallholding on a hill 25 km from Sligo. There's a cat, dog, one chicken and lots and lots of fruit trees and bushes, rhubarb and other trees (mostly alder, willow, birch). If you are interested in Irish culture, I am one of only four or five Hosts in all Ireland that can speak the Irish language. Please take note: I need helpers who are able to start work early and work hard and enthusiastically. I am an honest and a fair man, but not a rich man. If this is too much hassle for you, do not waste your time (and mine) by writing to me. PLEASE,PLEASE, PLEASE DON`T WRITE TO ME IN ENGLISH IF YOU KNOW ANY OTHER LANGUAGE; even a minority language. I can translate any language using Computers, and it will be a pleasure. just let me know what language you are using, and we´ll take it from there. The aim is to establish a Fukuoka style forest garden with a wide range of edible and useful plants, and eco-friendly, low energy accomodation, where a small community can live without money, fossil fuels or plastic. There is an awful long way to go yet, but a start has been made. The disadvantages include extremely primitive accomodation and washing facilities, swarms of bloodsucking insects, lots and lots of rain, wind, cold, hailstones and clouds, hard physical work outdoors, remote location, BUT: I'm flexible on work hours and days (as long as you work well and fast), and almost always have availability to take helpers! If you want to learn or improve your English, I will be helpful, but can only guarantee two hours per day of English conversation (with me). The rest of your english language learning must come either from other helpers, radio, ipod or by you making the effort to visit the local village and talk english there. I much prefer speaking Irish (Gaelic) and if you want to learn a few words, it will be a pleasure. NO internet (nearest public internet is 8km away). NO television. Compost toilet (yes, the bucket has to be emptied regularly!). Wash yourself with a bowl of hot water and soap, or try the outdoor bath (light a fire underneath and in half an hour you have a very warm bath). There are a couple of bikes for the use of helpers. To encourage helpers to take good care of the bikes I request a 50 euro damage deposit, fully refundable if you return the bike in working order. (If you hit a pothole while using the bike, you can buckle the wheel badly, and a new wheel is 40 euro!)
Area: GentWe live in a house situated in the city of Ghent, Belgium (less than 3 km from the City Historical Center) a really interesting, culturally rich and sparkling city of Belgium. We are group of friends from different countries and we love this multicultural environment where the main keywords are: understanding and respect. The most of us are professionals between 20 and 30 yo (but age is not really an issue for anything). At home there are always things to repair, maintain working and organize, we are looking for someone skilled who can think about it, something like an housekeeper but focused on the maintenance and organization of the house. He will have important responsibilities about the house and the van (car). We are looking for someone who stays at least six months (the longer the better) , starting from now (or within few weeks). We offer a private room, a bicycle and a small bonus on the end of the month (based on the done tasks). The working schedule in average 15 hours a week, you can schedule the works as you want (all on one day or spreaded out) and you will have time for your activities (extra job, studying, chilling out, traveling). If you like self-organization it will be nice for you to live with us because you will get your own room and you will be independent in your works. Of course the first couple of weeks will be a bit more challenging for you cause you have to learn quite many things. We believe that living together is not easy, but each of us has to do some effort in order to make everyday life at home enjoyable for everybody. We are also sensible about ecology and we like to keep our home a place where we waste as less as possible (energy & products), we buy & sell second hand, one of your tasks would be also to keep everybody motivated about it. We appreciate to spend time together but nothing is forced (we try to share at least the sunday dinner together). In case of any issue we are all open to democratic discussions. We are all couchsurfing friendly. IMPORTANT FOR US: Only Non-Smokers (We prefer to have non smokers at home). No Drugs at home. No food is provided, you will get a bonus dependent on the tasks that you do monthly, (it is not a big sum mostly). You have a driving license (from time to time you need to use our Van). You need to have EU citizenship or permission (visum) to be in Europe for at least one year.

Area: Languedoc RoussillonWe have just one month left this summer in which to work on the eco project. If you want to help this September then contact me asap! We will close the build site down for the winter at the end of September and take a break! We will need volunteers again from March 2015 for the spring and summer. If you have experience or a real interest in learning how to build a straw bale house then please email me for dates up to the end of September 2015. We will not be running the B&B. We are a retired British couple who have been living in France for the last 12 years. We have a B&B and an organic garden. In the next 3 years we want to build a straw bale house and set up a permiculture garden and orchard. To do this we have bought land in the Aveyron. We are bird & animal lovers and have 8 stray cats. Francis runs days bird watching in the local area. We divide our time between the house and garden here and our new plots of land in the Aveyron.
