Art Monastery Project seeks like minded helpers for the whole summer, near Rome , Italy
Description
We are looking for energetic, hardworking volunteers who can offer their skills as musicians, artists, craftspeople, and stage managers to trade work and a small fee for a private tent and board at our apartment down the road from our beautiful monastery, the headquarters of our intentional art community.
The Project seeks to create world-class art by applying monastic principles to art-making instead of religion. We are transforming a monastery an hour-and-a-half NE of Rome, in the town of Labro, into an international non-profit arts production center. While the monastery is a functioning hotel, we are focusing on art production and educational workshops.
SPRING & FALL: We can use help throughout the year. From March through May and September through November, we invite people to join us for 2 weeks or more. Keep in mind it can get very cold in Lazio in these shoulder-seasons, so pack warmly! Please email us for more specific information and indicate your desired dates.
SUMMER: In Summer 2012, we're specifically looking for 2 worktraders to join us for the entire 3 months (June 1-August 31). Please email us for more specific information and indicate that you would like to come for the entire summer.

Work
While the summer is high arts-production season, spring and fall are filled with more community-oriented tasks, as well as a few artistic events. Everyone works hard, and we can always use help with the un-glamorous aspects of arts production. We need help organizing the living quarters & office, building lovely and sturdy shelving and storage, baking bread, making yogurt, driving shuttles to the office (in our manual-transmission Kangoo), cooking, cleaning, helping organize our hard drives and physical archives, doing online marketing, heading up a series of research projects, and supporting whatever art projects are currently in the works. We are especially interested in Italian speakers and people who can drive a stick shift car. If you have artistic or musical skill, we might involve you in a project.

What else ...
We are a community of professional artists and we speak English pretty much all the time. We invite you to join us in meditation and nature walks but this is certainly not required or even expected. We are always looking for future long-term community members, so if you really fit in, there is that potential.

I stayed here a week, and fell in love with the place. It was in November, so not much going on with guests and programs, just being at the Casale was wonderful, and my hosts were welcoming and friendly. They had me cleaning, and working in the garden, and caring for the chickens. I highly recommend this place! -Wendy
I stayed here in Feb 2010. I had a wonderful time. The property and the views are stunning. And the hosts are awesome. They are fun and intelligent and really made me feel at home.
The Santa Brigida was only just opening back up after being closed for the winter, so it was quiet and not a lot going on with lots of people yet but it was still more

Liesl is fantastic. She executed every task we gave her with cheerful verve. She went above and beyond, noticing other things that needed doing and taking the initiative to deal with it. She's self-motivated, smart, fun, knowledgeable and has a can-do attitude. I'm hoping she comes back and stays with us longer next time!
I planned on staying only two weeks during March, and ended up extending my volunteer time because this is a wonderful place! The creators of the project are truly loving inspirational people. The atmosphere of open communication creates a great work environment and I encourage anyone to volunteer here!
Thank you for an amazing experience!

I stayed here for 2 weeks in March and I really enjoyed my time here. The atmosphere was lovely, everyone was so welcoming and the accommodation was fab and vey comfy. I'd definately recommend this place to anyone!
I felt so fortunate having ended up at the Monastery! I stayed for two weeks and it's a light-hearted and laid-back, yet heart-and-soul dedicated community of really friendly and caring people. Great atmosphere and an absolutely stunning scenery surrounding the monastery. I was helping out in the kitchen and with various housework and outdoors more
The place is AWESOME. I had no idea what to expect on arrival. I stayed for 10 days during the Summer, a busy time (though I wish I could have stayed longer!) and everyone was so welcoming. We would wake up every morning to the beautiful landscape of the Italian mountains and have such fulfilling days that we slept solidly through the night. Our more

I had a fantastic time with the gang at thisProject, what an experience! Beautiful people, stunning location! I only stayed for a couple of days and regret not staying longer... We stayed at this place for just under two weeks, and it's safe to say that we loved every moment of it. The location is picturesque, to say the least, and the accommodations are comfortable and inviting. Everyone involved with the project is invested whole-heartedly, and the atmosphere they create with that dedication is infectious. We were also more
