Area: Nanaimo, Vancouver Island, British ColumbiaHello We are a busy Canadian family of Five. Myself and husband have three children and we work full time. I work in an immigrant welcome centre that helps newcomers settle into the area with services like English classes and employment services. I keep the same holidays as my children. My husband has a managers position in a roofing company. We both have weekends off. We have a 2 sons and a daughter. Our children are 10, 12, & 14. They attend school during the week and enjoy extra curricular activities like softball, swimming and army cadets in the evenings during the week. We rent a large home with 5 bedrooms on the edge of a small town close to buses and shopping. We have a small dog, and we raise rabbits to eat and even have some chickens for fresh eggs. I enjoy looking after my family and cooking healthy meals from our vegetable garden. We enjoy camping on our holidays.
Area: BavariaHi We are family Mitchell; Peter and Silka, Leonard 11, Edgar 8 and Erik 1.5, 17 chickens, 2 ducks, 4 rabbits and a guinea pig. After twelve years of living in east London, we decided the time was right for a complete change in lifestyle and some 'fresh air'! So here we are living in a remote village by the wild woods of Ober Franken or Upper Franconia, northern Bavaria. A decision also prompted by the arrival of a new member of the family in Nov 2011. Erik was born in London but won’t remember much as he was only there for 40 days! We moved to the area one and half years ago and our dream is to turn this dilapidated farm into an exciting and stimulating creative arts centre. It's a fairly big task, which is why we're looking for help and enthusiasm. We have about 3 acres of garden and woods with five buildings in various states of condition. We're looking for help reconstructing a very large and beautiful old timber barn. Other jobs include taking the boys to the pool, clearing the small beck, clearing trees from the woods and much more... If you're interested then we're the 'green heart' on the satellite image of the village: Weissenbach. Here are a few photos to help describe the place. The area has a large scale about it, huge wild forests, rolling hills and ruggedly beautiful landscapes. Weissenbach is a small active village (approx 120 inhabitants) situated at the end of the road, so there is no through traffic. The area beyond is forest and fields, other than the Buddhist monastery, which is about a 30-minute walk through the woods. We are an open minded, well travelled family who love to work hard, eat well and have fun and we would like to offer volunteers the same in a beautiful place with clear air and a wonderful array of bird song. We have bicycles to lend for fantastic on and off-road cycling, including a lovely cycle path to the historic town of Kulmbach, famous for the Plassenberg Castle and the largest tin soldier collection in the world! We're surrounded by wonderful woodland walks and there's a great outdoor swimming pool with huge slide etc, nestled in the valley about a 20 minute bike ride through the woods, which are breathtaking. This is a great place for anyone who wants to hear themselves think. The air is clear, the area is charming and I'd like to think we are a positive and fun bunch to work with. ps. we love music.
