Stay at the Pilgrims' Nest, a travellers haven hidden in nature near the Pyrenees, France
Description
Hi all! My name is Eddy. I'm 56 and from Flemish origin, but I live in southern France since 8 years now. My occupation (in the sense of the things I occupy my time with) is a mixture of pilgrim/photographer/musician/nature lover, and I like to bring people together.
Since recently I share my place with Katrien. She is 43 and also from Flemish origin. She discovered the way of the pilgrim here at the Nest and she is happy to develop the place together with me now. We complement each other well.
Our place is situated 3,5km outside of the small village of Villardebelle, 35km SE of the historic city of Carcassonne, at an altitude of 712m. Mountainous area, forests, pastures, isolated and very quiet, nearest shops and banks at Limoux (23km), hot springs at Rennes-les-Bains (also 23km), so having your own means of transport is preferable. If you like this sort of quiet hidden places this is the place to be.
The energy of the place is introspective and highly transformative, so we turned it into a place of inner transformation, exchange and sharing, which is called the "Pilgrims' Nest", open to all pilgrims on the road, and to all who travel consciously their inner path of evolution. It also welcomes everyone who needs a few days or weeks of rest, reflection and energy recharging, or relaxation in the sense of getting away for a while from stress and a hectic lifestyle, and to release accumulated tensions.
You are invited to come and help with the developing of this project.
Furthermore there's delicious clear spring water coming out of the taps, electricity is generated by solar panels and a small windmill, and the sun heats up our shower water. Nature as well as us will appreciate it when you bring biodegradable soap or gel, or don't use them at all.
There is no public transport to the Nest, so if you don't have your own means of transport you will basically have to hitch hike from Limoux, which usually works out fine.

I've had the most amazing time here. Eddy and Katerine really greeted me with open arms and let me feel at home. I spent only a week but it still was an incredible experience; helping Eddy outside on warm days and just enjoying the quiet and tranquility on rainy days. I can only wholeheartly recommond this place! Thanks again Eddy.
I had an incredible first workaway experience with Eddie and Katrien last summer. The home they have created is beautiful and full of creative energy, and the way they invite travellers in with open arms is truly inspiring. I could not have asked for a better first experience, their genuine warmth, kindness and humour has stayed with me. The work more
Nikki stayed here together with her sister for 2 weeks. She's very energetic, which was necessary for the tough job that we gave her: helping to haul firewood out of the forest, and to split and stack it. Very friendly and nice company to have around. And she's a great singer too !! Her stay proved to be an example for how a workawayer becomes a more
Laura stayed here at the Pilgrims' Nest together with her sister for 2 weeks. She proved to be very workwilling and dedicated in a variety of jobs, even for the tough job of splitting and hauling wood. We also all enjoyed her cooking very much, something she clearly likes doing and in which she is very creative. She's a most friendly and enjoyable more
Such a beautiful place, and Eddy and his partner Katrine's way of life is really inspiring. They were so kind and generous to us from the moment we arrived, and i couldn't have wished for more laid back and appreciative hosts. As well as them, there are so many talented and interesting people passing through, its a real creative haven - would more
Wendi stayed here at the Pilgrims' Nest for a week and we found her a very keen and motivated worker, even on the tough job of splitting wood. She also proved to be an excellent cook, giving her meals an exotic touch of taste, and the lemon cake that she made just before leaving was just incredible! On top of that she's also very cheerful company. more
I stayed with Eddy and Katrien at the Pilgrims' nest for a week and it was an amazing experience. They made me feel welcomed, at home and the place had a beautiful energy. The workload was always varied and interesting. I couldn't have asked for better hosts, thank you very much for having me.
Megan's modesty, eagerness to work and her cheering energy makes her someone very nice to have around. We really enjoyed her company during the 10 days that she stayed here.
