Description

We are a 2000 acre reserve outside a small village in Belize, CA. 75 acres of the property are open, hosting 3 small organic gardens, many varieties of tropical fruit trees and botanicals, a large community space with a full kitchen and bathrooms, and 3 guest palapas. We are simply trying to practice what we preach and live a lifestyle that is as low impact, peaceful and fun!

We have been hosting volunteers through the wwoof program and we love it! Each individual brings a new energy and new creativity to the farm. We would love to reach out and have volunteers from other sources as well.

Travail

It is mostly farm work, so we are looking volunteers who are in fair to good physical condition. Volunteers are involved with all things gardening and farming, including pruning fruit trees, planting harvesting bed prep. They will also be involved with animal husbandry, including feeding and watering, exercising horses, pasture rotations, milking, putting in fences, collecting eggs. We also often have building projects going on, for example, right now we are building a new barn for our milking cow Rosanca. Volunteers interested in these type projects are welcome to be involved.
Time in the kitchen will also be had, learning to make cheese, yoghurt and butter, as well as cooking and preserving the fruits and foods from the orchards and gardens.
We grow a large amount of bamboo for the production of crafts and furniture. Volunteers will spend some time harvesting, prepping and working with the bamboo as well as some of the tropical hardwoods from the area.
We are in the beginning stages of a small tourism project. Some help with logistics etc, may be possible.
We have a great relationship with the small village school and often do community work with them. Most recently we had a group locate and ship computers for a new computer lab, and another group go in and help them learn to use them. In the future we would like to implement a school lunch program, starting gardens in the school yard.
