Region: Limousin------------------------------------------------------------- I AM NOT HOSTING DURING WINTER !!! ------------------------------------------------------------ YOU ARE WELCOME AFTER APRIL 2014 !!! :-) ------------------------------------------------------------ Salut salut les amis ! Good day everybody ! Hope you are doing very well! THE PLACE : I am living (living means sharing with other animals) on a land in the deep center of France. It is an amazing nature place, full of plants and free pets. No cars, no pollution, friendly neighbours...I am so so happy to live there :-) There is a river passing through the prary, it's very usefull for watering the garden and refreshing during summer. The prapry is located on a splendid valley surrounded by forest. It look like a bit as if you were lost in the jungle (as much as you can feel this way in France :-)) ABOUT MY EXPERIENCE WITH TRAVELERS : I am used to host all kind of people since several years (couchsurfing, helpers, travelers, visitors, ...) ANIMALS AND PETS : I have 8 chickens and 6 roosters (does any one wants to adopt one ?...) plus couple of ducks male and female (babies for next summer ?). I also have a small red hair cat, female, a little bit too cuddly :-)... I had goats but I had to give thous friendly animals to some nice neighbours because they were destructing all my plantations :-(. There is many horses and cows all around, If you come early spring you will see lots of babies borning in the fields around. On the land, you will see : small fishes (in the river of course), salamanders (at night), colorfull butterflies and dragonflies (at the end of spring) ABOUT FOOD : Most of the food comes from my garden so it's totaly organic vegetables as I never use any chemicals. I also buy some goat cheese, fruits and cereals to my neighbours. I very rarely eat meat. My chikens give me some delicious eggs... I have fish in my river but I never could kill them. One time I catched one with my hands, (s)he was so beautiful and peacefull, I couldn't kill him/her, ha ha neither my chikens dude !!! They are my friends ! Maybe I can hunt in the forest but I am not sure, I never tried ... Killing vegetables is way easier :-) For cooking I have a gas hoven. Wood cooking is also possible. I am not cooking for you, I mean, sometimes I will cook for you of course, that's my pleasure, but not everyday. I like people to be very independent and responsible on my place. If we are several workers, like a small comunity, I hope that we can self organise in a collectiv way for preparing the food and washing the dishes. If you have skills in preparing food, if you like to do it and if we are a lot of people working on the land at the same time, then it can be your task, why not ! ... MY SKILLS, WHAT CAN I TEACH YOU : I am not bad in building things, fixing tools, repairing mechanic stuff, I was a scientific ingeener in my past life, can be useful sometimes ... But experience is the best way to learn and I still have so much to discover !!! Since I am living in the nature I am learning about gardening and plants, I am very passionated about plants, trees, Healing with nature and communicating with animals. I am not a musician but sometimes I play music :-) I have a drum kit, a guitare, a ukulélé, a mandoline and a trumpet (which I didn't succed in understand how it works :-() Sometimes I am not too bad at cooking too... HOW TO GET TO MY PLACE : Region : Limousin Département : Creuse (23) It exactly is in the geometric middle of France. Big cities around are Limoges, Clermont-Ferrand, Montluçon, Guéret ... The land location is 4km far from the village "CHAMBON SUR VOUEIZE" (23170). This village is located 25 km south west from the city Montluçon. If you don't have a car you can come by train (to Montluçon or Guéret) But then after you have to use the ride share (website covoiturage bla bla car in french you have to pay by credit card on the website but it works very well and it is a lot cheaper than the train ... Actually and personally I never use train only this website) And also you can hitch hike quite easily and securely in this area of France. If you don't succed in comming closer, I can pick you up in Gouzon or Lepaud... BUT LET ME KNOW AT LEAST 2 DAYS BEFORE !!! Well my friends, if you feel like my place (and me :-)) can offer something to you, just ask me for any more information, Let's talk and see what life can offer ! Peace to everybody, enjoy life, love people ... Sam
Region: MadridMy name is Lucia and I am young architect working abroad with a artistic interests. Me and my family belong a piece of land of one hectare and a cave on it. Region: EnglandHi our names are James and Tamara Stubbs. We live with our dog in a small Somerset village nestled in the hills outside of Frome (7 miles). James works from home and Tamara freelances and when she is not at home she could be anywhere in the world. It is a very sociable village with lots of things going on and a vibrant pub. There are no shops here but just 4 miles away is the small town of Bruton which has everything from a post office to a good butcher. Also some good additional pubs and great places to eat and drink. Batcombe is a very classic, unspoilt and very friendly English village and the roads here are very quiet. The walking is exceptional, hilly, and the dog is always up for extra walks, if you wanted the company. There are some interesting artisan food and drink producers in the area. We are near to Frome, Glastonbury, Wells, Stonehenge, Cheddar Gorge, Bradford-on-Avon, Bath. London is about 2 hours away either by train or there is an excellent coach service. If you are looking for classic English country life you would find it here. The villagers are worldly, welcoming and many, possibly most, have moved into the area from else where. There is no public transport but we will be happy to give a number of lifts to the local towns and sights during your time here. Ah yes! Our project. We have brought an old cottage which is being completely renovated. Professional builders are adding an extension and doing works. The project cottage (our future house) is across the street from the one we are renting.
Region: Midi PyreneesHello, Workawayers! We've had so many house-guests and people staying here in the last months that we've decided to slow down a bit with the Workawayers over the winter. We decided only to accept Workawayers with experienced building skills for a while - electricity, plumbing, tiling and drywall, mostly. If you're stranded for a few days near Toulouse and don't know where to stay, do contact us, though, there's a good chance we'll host you anyway to help out, but we're sort of "workawayed-out" and we need a break, so we won't take anyone on for longer periods. Sorry! ------------------------------------------------ We're a family of five: Patricia (46), French-German, translator, Pascal (52), French, water treatment engineer, Kilian (20), student in Paris, Adrien (18) and Caroline (16), both students in Toulouse and home only on week-ends and sometimes during school breaks. That makes for quiet weeks and busy week-ends. We live in an old farmhouse in the countryside, 35 kms South of Toulouse, between Toulouse and the Pyrenees. We have a "gîte" (a "cottage"), which is rented out by the week and usually needs to be cleaned on Saturdays. We are also renovating the house we live in and can always use a hand. Our family language is French, but the five of us are also more or less fluent in English and German. We live 4 kms from the town (10.000 inhabitants) and the railway station, you can borrow a bicycle or get a ride when we drive into town. Pascal and I have both travelled extensively (Europe, North America, Africa and a little Asia and Oz/NZ) and lived in different countries. As a family we spent two years living in Dakar (Senegal). We like the idea of a cultural exchange and will gladly provide a bedroom, breakfast, lunch as well as a family dinner against some help with gardening, building, cleaning... We have two cats (Starsky & Hutch) and sometimes we also have chickens (not right now, though). We smoke, so we do of course accept smokers. But we don't want you to smoke in the bedrooms and not indoors at all during summer. We'd rather not accept families with babies or toddlers, because our house is not adapted to accommodate young children, but we have no problem with hosting couples, groups of friends, families with older kids, cats, dogs, horses... We also have lots of space for camper-vans or tents, if you travel with those. We ski, so if you like skiing, we'll be going to Ax-Bonascre (in the Pyrénées) all winter, about once a week if the weather permits. Things you should definitely know: (seriously, read this!) Auterive, our town, is quite boring. There is not a lot going on here, really. No bars or nice cafés, just the market on Friday mornings. We do have a place in Toulouse, though, that our son Adrien shares with two flatmates, so if you want to take in some city life, you can always crash on the couch there after an evening out. If you have your own car, you can have great day-trips in the area. Here, all you can do is run or cycle... or swim and lie in the sun in summer. Our kids are gone all week and like to relax on the week-ends. You are very welcome to spend the week-ends here and we will of course provide the food and spend some time with you, but consider yourself warned: it might be boring! We are not a traditional French family. We don't have 3-course meals twice a day, we're anything but "chic" and we will very probably fall into English as soon as you get here... (Also we made our first workawayer eat horsemeat tartare :) - but he volunteered!) I'll drive you to the station or into town and pick you up and I will do my best to try and speak French with you during the day if that's what you want. We will talk about French and world politics and economics and culture, Pascal will share his very French way of finding everything better here, I will explain (and diss!) the French school system, we will recommend French music... Last but not least, because it is important: Pascal is very thorough when it comes to work. He will indeed make you sand that wall a third time for those two little specks and he will make you take out the built-in closet to paint behind it. :)
Region: BrittanyI own a beautiful manoir in rural Brittany that I have been renovating for the last two years. It also has a farm house which I have completed and my mother lives there full-time. I now live and work in London and the place still needs lots of work. There's also plenty of landscaping and gardening that needs doing (and fun toys/tools to do it with!) when the weather is good. My mother will supply (excellent!) food, lifts if necessary and she is fun company (she's a writer) but also likes her private space. The opportunity may be more suitable for a couple - to spend some time in a beautiful, rural area of France. Practical skills would be helpful - and there are lots of people around to give advice and assistance if necessary. The local town is about 4km away
