Volunteer at an eco farm on an unspoilt island, near Melbourne, Australia
Description
ABOUT OUR ISLAND: Imagine a landscape with no power poles, no sealed roads and no shopping strips. Only 65kms from Melbourne. The 82 residents on the island live under very special circumstances. With no local government, no churches, no mains electricity or water and not even a policeman, self-sufficiency is a necessity. The lack of infrastructural development makes this colony a curious phenomenon lost in time. Beautiful native flora and fauna, rarely seen elsewhere, flourish here. National Park covers approximately 70% of the island and boasts the most dense disease-free koala population in the world, not to mention 260 bird species, 600 plant species and 100 native orchids. It is not only listed in the Register of the National Estate, but has also received the highest rating from the National Trust, a classification reserved exclusively for parts of the physical environment considered to be essential to the heritage of Australia. If you love nature, you’ll love it.

GETTING TO OUR ISLAND: The Eco Farm is located on the southeast coast of French Island. During the scenic 20-minute drive from the main seaboard jetty at Tankerton, visitors pass through undulating hills being grazed by sheep, cattle, and horses. Passenger ferries depart regularly from Stony Point (near Crib Point and Hastings on the Mornington Peninsula), or Cowes on Phillip Island, either of which can be reached by road or train. A barge service also operates from Corinella, near the Bass Highway, to transport vehicles onto the island.

I've just returned from four days with the farm and overall it has been a good experience. Mark and Melinda are very welcoming, they are the type of people who are genuine and want to do good and make you feel at home. They appreciate your help, and the farm is a very interesting place to hang out. The food is excellent and an absolute bonus. more
I really enjoyed my stay at the Island and the Farm. Melinda and Marc are very friendly and fun. Work was what I expected and I am a micro-weeding professional now :) They appreciate your help and you can learn about running a farm. We were a bunch of volunteers and had a good time together. If you like nature, there will be enough to do and to more

We meet here very friendly and lovely people. Melinda and Marc are so nice. We appreciate to share time with them and the other volunteers. I was great to stay on French Island, discover the life at the farm. We enjoyed the calm, the nature, the good food... and the koalas. A experience we'll never forget !
Sorry for taking so long to put this on here! We stayed at the farm in January and had a great time along with the other workers, Mark and Melinda are very welcoming people. And I did get to see koalas even though it took a few days which i think is quite unusual! food was great! I can no longer look at a piece of garlic in the same way :)
