Work experience on a Scottish Estate
Description
Hello!
We are a busy family of 6 living on a farm!
Katie (18) is at College in Glasgow and comes home in the holidays. Heather (15), Angus (11) and Oona (1) live on the farm full time with parents Johanna and Niall.
The Estate is in Argyll on the West Coast of Scotland, about two hours North of Glasgow. We are continuously working to build up our farm. look after the animals and run our self-catering business.
To date we have around 100 sheep, 30 highland cows and two dogs.
The farm is busy all year round - in the winter with daily feeding, the spring with lambing and the summer with shearing and hay collecting and storing. From April until September we have the main season for our self-catering business, which brings frequent visitors from all round the world to our farm. Our guests stay and enjoy the Estate and its beautiful surroundings. The weekly change overs are a lot of work as our Main House is rated '5 star' by the local tourist board and we are constantly working to keep up and maintain this high standard.

Travail
...The skills we are looking for are varied and range from general housekeeping including ironing, hoovering, polishing floors and making beds to washing up and cooking.
The farm work is a mix of working with the Sheep and cows (herding cows and/or sheep and tagging, halter training and grooming the highland cattle) Getting in the hay in August clearing out the barns general maintenance (fencing, cleaning gutters and road repairs, building walls maintaining plants in greenhouse-eco house). Collecting logs from our forest splitting and stacking for drying in the eco house.
With our family help with babysitting, housesitting, shopping and dogsitting may also be part of your tasks.

Logement
A room in the main house, lodge, Cottage or eco house - one of these will be made available for whoever comes to stay with us.
Autres choses...
We see our 'work-aways' as part of the family and you will therefore be expected to help with the household chores as much as everyone else - unloading the dishwasher, laundry, mopping floors and cooking etc.
A stay here won't be a Monday-Friday 'job' with regular days off. We see it as a 'help - when help is required' and as tasks will be varied and plentyful it certainly won't be boring with us.
We are looking for responsible individuals, who are able to take charge and show initiative. As baby- and housesitting will be part of the job - you need to be good with kids, display patience and good manors and provide a positive role model. Preferably you are over the age of 25 and have a clean driving license (with at least two years of experience).

I can't believe I can not give her 5 stars...
To date Laetitia has been the BEST work away we had here!
Initially Laetitia wanted to come for three months and I admit I was unsure we wanted to commit for such a long time without having met her. However after only two days I thought - What on earth am I going to do without her?

Marie, who must be the BVB (Dortmund's football team)'s biggest fan!
Lovely girl, hard working with a good sence of humor.
Excellent at ironing and great with physical work. Marie spent quite a lot of time in the barn mucking out and really got stuck in.
It was lovely to have her here at our farm and we wish her all the best for her future!

I stayed with Jo, Niall and the family for two weeks. It was my first work away experience and an amazing one at that. I'd have loved to stay for longer. The surrounding area is beautiful, the work is rewarding, the accommodation warm and extremely comfortable and finally the food is wonderfully tasty. They are a lovely family and I wish them all more
Great guy!
Workwise - Oli got stuck into every task he was given and did them well. Shovelling gravel in the pooring rain, battling with ancient PC's and moving entire fences (again the pooring rain) didn't seem to dampen his spirit!

Just noticed I had not left any feedback for our first ever work-away LEONARD!
What can I say - we're having him back this year and are all really looking forward to it :)
Leonard was a great help and even after his little accident (twisting his ankle) his spirit was unbroken and he helped out where ever he could. Lovely guy to have around and more

Great fun!
Lenja and Eva were a great help around the house as well as on the farm. Both learned how to shear sheep very quickly and did a great job!
They helped us a lot with ironing and general house work as well as the physical jobs of running a farm.
We all LOVED the excellent Schnitzel!
The two weeks went by very quickly but we do hope to more

Laszlo was not just great company but also a good worker! He has excellent manners and is very polite. He always took great care, always mucked in wherever he could and also took initiative to get jobs off the ground. We would have loved to have him for longer!!!
Being a beginner volunteer I can't compare this place to my previous volunteering, but I am sure, that it was the perfect place for me to start this activity.
All conditions were very good for me. The family is very kind and helpful, the jobs are various and interesting, the accommodation is comfortable, the food is like at first class. The other more
