Travail

The local community is cosmopolitan and has a population of approximately 450 000 people. Majority of the people are young people and children. The local community lacks adequate basic infrastructure and institutions hence rendering it to be classified as informal settlement.

Nurturing project involves the volunteers working with vulnerable school children at community based education center and secondary schools. At education center, volunteers will teach young vulnerable children English, Arithmetic, social science, music, art & craft and games, volunteers will work from Monday to Friday as from 8: 00 am to 4:30pm with lunch and tea break in between hence not continuous but will depend on the subjects volunteers have chosen. At secondary schools, volunteers will offer career talk, drug abuse and sex education and its usually twice a week as from 2:00pm to 4:30pm.

Turning point project involves vulnerable young people and young single mothers undergoing entrepreneurship training, hand skills training, mentorship and employment hence volunteers will be required to carry out supervision, administration, designing marketing strategy, updating blogs, posting information on social sites, fundraising and team building. Currently vulnerable young people and single mothers are involved in making of jewelery & crafts and in the process of starting chicken rearing. Over the weekend volunteers have time to visit excellent tourism sites in the country by the assistance of experienced field officer of the group. Currently we are registering volunteers for January, February, March and April 2012. Kindly contact the group for reservation and adequate planning.

Volunteers will have an opportunity to visit various tourism sites in the country through the guidance of experienced project officer.

Volunteers will receive certificates and tokens after the completion of their volunteer duration in recognition of work done.

Logement

Volunteers will stay with host family within the community hence volunteers will access three healthy local meals, fully furnished bedding facilities hence don't need to bother carrying bedding facilities. Volunteers will have an opportunity to learn how to prepare local meals, local languages and local culture hence also they will have an opportunity to show the host family their culture. Volunteers will carry out their own laundry work mainly over the weekend but can request for assistance from the group or host family. Volunteers will be required to contribute 6 USA dollars per day which will be used by the host family towards the upkeep and towards project administration.

Autres choses...

The group has adequate experience handling volunteers across the globe because they have been part and parcel of the projects hence the success is attributed to volunteers because the local group and community has limited resources to have made the vulnerable children and youths be who they are.

Volunteers are kindly requested to stay in the community at least three weeks to be resourceful to the project as they learn local culture and enjoy excellent tourism attraction of the country. Volunteers can visit the community as individual, couple or group of any age and gender.

Volunteers will have an opportunity to be linked to the best and exciting tourism sites of their choice and for the coming period is the world beast migration which is the 7TH wonder of the world whereby you will be assisted by the staff of the organization who has adequate experience working in the tourism sector.

The group is currently accepting reservation for June, July and August 2012. hence you are all welcomed to be part of the change as you tour Kenya.

Why does workaway.info allow listings of hosts who charge money?

In  third world countries (Where most hosts are involved in charity work or community development) some of our hosts may ask for a small donation to help the host family or charity (often less then 5 dollars per day) Workaway will allows this listing when the donation goes directly to the family or charity and is just to cover the cost of the volunteers stay.  (This this will be clearly marked on the host listing).
We will strictly not allow listings posted by agents or “middle men” or projects who we feel are looking to profit from a volunteers stay.
