    Description

We are a German-Chilean couple, Susi (43), Fernando (42), Aurelia (7 years), Lucia (1.5 years) and cat Pauline (11), open-minded, sporty and adventurous, proud to call ourselves owners of a beautiful old Gründerzeit house in Leipzig.

Colourful, diverse and open - that's life in Leipzig. The city is known for its lively cultural scene with countless clubs, pubs, museums, cabarets, libraries, opera and Gewandhaus. But you won't find any hustle and bustle in Leipzig. In the midst of many parks and surrounded by a beautiful landscape of lakes and rivers, you can also relax and enjoy the solitude of a "village" with 600,000 inhabitants.

Our house is located in the multicultural eastern part of Leipzig and is only 5 minutes by tram from the main railway station and the city centre. It was built in 1910 and is full of lively history and spirit. Unfortunately, over the years, this liveliness had given way to emptiness, as no one cared about maintaining the house.
In 2011, Susi bought the empty house. From then on she breathed new life and colour into these old walls and the garden at the back of the building with great help from many, many great people from all over the world (including many Workawayers).

Today, about 15 adults and 4 children live in the house, making it an oasis of well-being, family spirit and tolerance.
We see ourselves as a kind of alternative house project in which people share an entire house in the manner of a residential community - only with more space. We maintain and develop this house by doing most things (renovation) ourselves bit by bit.
We often cook and spend a lot of time together, sit outside by the fire bowl, barbecue, brunch extensively on Sundays, celebrate birthdays or share other beautiful moments.

    ------------------------

    Help

You can get involved in different ways. At the moment, Susi mainly needs help with babysitting and housework so that she can take care of more renovation work or office work (most of the time Susi will be in the house when she works in the home office).
Aurelia goes to school every day and Lucia goes to kindergarten. The task would be, for example, to pick up the children in the afternoon, to support Susi afterwards with cooking and/or putting them to bed, or to spend time with the children during the day on the weekends. It would also be nice if "Mum" and "Dad" could occasionally go out in the evening and spend some time without the children.
Since Aurelia and Lucia are growing up bilingual (German and Spanish), we would prefer a Spanish-speaking helper and someone who plans to stay with us for 1 to 3 months or longer.

Other jobs we could use help with include renovating, gardening, sawing wood or tidying up the house. But looking after Aurelia and especially Lucia (Aurelia is already very independent) is more urgent at the moment. We could also imagine taking in a couple (one person to look after the children and one to help around the house).
An interior decorator, tiler or an all-rounder in the house who could do renovation work would be very helpful, for example. We have a well-equipped workshop.

For an average of 5 hours a day, we can offer you food, accommodation and a place to exchange ideas, meet people or make your own music and art.

The times and work are not strictly fixed in advance. Some days we need your help throughout the day, but on other days there is nothing to do. We will talk about it and try to find the best solution. So you should be flexible about work and free time.

One more note: Before you come to visit us, please make sure you have enough insurance (in case you get sick).

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Accommodation

We can offer you your own room (if there are two helpers, two rooms if necessary).

In winter we all heat with wood or brown coal. There is no central gas or oil heating in the house.
Kitchen and bathroom are separate and used by everyone.

To make community life nicer, it is very important that everyone in the house contributes to the regular cleaning of the common areas and the room.
