Guests are encouraged to draw and paint, or create sweet soul music on the hostel's guitars, pianos, didgeridoo and African drums. 3hrs per day Help exchange for accommodation, 10 day stays or 2 week stays available, Jobs involve cleaning, laundry, gardening, house maintenance, helping to make beds.
We are looking for Help X guests that know how to clean, maybe you have lived and maintained your own home or have contributed in you parents home in the cleaning.
Washing machine is free for our wwoofing guests, let our staff know and we will pay the $5
You can work an extra half hour for 50mb WiFi voucher - this can be creative projects and not limited to 50mb - alternatively we have a special half price offer 200mb for $10

A great way to visit this region and Oamaru is by the Alps to Ocean Cycle Way starting at Aoraki Mount Cook and ending in Oamaru's Victorian Historic Precinct.
Onsite Live In Reception Role At Chillawhile - Part Paid + Accommodation Exchange $100 Per 7 shifts at Chillawhile Backpackers Art Gallery Oamaru - minimum 2 months.
2 onsite manager positions at Chillawhile; duties include on alternating rota with your co manager consisting of an evening reception 4pm - 9pm followed by morning cleaning 10am - 1pm, minimum commitment 2 months $100 per 7 shifts - this will follow with time off consisting of 27 consecutive hours of your own time and a chance to sightsee the area as well as enjoy our backpackers.
As there are 2 managers there is also a chance to take time off for some short travel brakes and cover extra shifts (more pay).
Reception shift 4pm-9pm this involves checking in guests, receiving payment, cashing up, the online booking system is managed and updated by the owner and accessed from the computer on the front reception desk.
Phones and emails are answered by the owner, once you have ensured that all the jobs are complete, your time can be spent with our guests, you are free to socialise, cook dinner, dine and wine, make music or paint - so long as you are on site during the hours of 4pm to 9pm and available to our guests.
The morning shift is 3 hours and your job will be to manage and lead our wwoofing team, you will need to be trained to make beds to a high standard and ensure that standards are maintained.
Prior housekeeping and/or reception experience is an asset although not a must. We will train you on all aspects of cleaning as well as bed making in order for you to lead our wwoofing team and meet our standards. We have 2 steam mops, a hand held steam cleaner as well as a UV-C Anti-Allergy hand held Vacuum Cleaner + 3 normal vacuum cleaners for efficient and healthy cleaning.
Bonus $1 commission - per any sale of BBH Card, Penguin Viewing, Penguin Bus Tour, Bike Hire 3 hours +, special 200mb for half price $10, and towel hire. - bonus pay paid at the end of your 2 month contract.
Accommodation Exchange - You will be sharing in a 6 bed mixed dormitory (allocated as our wwoofing dorm).
This is an accommodation exchange in addition it is also part paid. This position is for 2 months. The bonus pay is paid at the end of the contract, should you find a super amazing job paying $1,000.00 per week, I would not expect one to stay for $100 per 7 shifts, however if you do leave before the 2 months - you forfeit your bonus pay, the $100 per week gets paid every 7 consecutive shifts, you must hold an IRD number and working holiday visa.
At the moment I the owner find myself pregnant with complications, so I am looking for someone with a car, our current onsite manager has taken on much of my duties for extra pay, so if you have a car please enquire about other opportunities and pay at chillawhile...
This role generally comes up once a month, less when our staff stay on longer.
