Wildlife, animals and space - a mountain bush retreat in Queensland, Australia
Description
At the moment we have a space from February 27.
We live about 30 minutes north of Toowoomba, two hours west of Brisbane on 80 acres. It's a new place and there is lots of work to do, so we just need help in the house to free us up to get out and do the landscaping, fencing etc (which you can help us with if you prefer to be outdoors). Mum works and is also doing a PhD and Dad is away with work most of the time, so it's hard getting through the list of things we want to do! Because we are a household of girls much of the time, we are looking for a female Workawayer.
We have some horses, although we only have one that can be ridden at the moment, so our Workawayer will be able to ride sometimes if they are experienced at riding (some competition experience is what we would be looking for in jumping, dressage, western or reining). If you are hoping to ride, you must be a competent rider with fairly recent riding experience as you will have to ride by yourself most of the time. Having siad all that, it is perfectly fine if you have no horse experience at all :-))
A driver's licence and safe and competent driving skills are absolutely necessary as we are way out of town.
We have access to beautiful riding and bushwalking country as our house is surrounded by bush with lots of wild animals and birds.
Much of the work we will give you will be house or garden related while I work or study and then on weekends we will tackle bigger jobs or take horses to competitions. There is plenty of time to go bushwalking with the dogs or ride and explore the area.

Languages spoken
French, English
Accommodation
Own very large room and bathroom in a new house with a new king size bed; wireless internet (although we have 15GB download limit so we ask that you limit your Skype sessions and downloads as it is needed for work); some use of a car for experienced drivers.
What else ...
Both daughters are learning French, so we'd love it if you speak French, but not imperative. The horses and dogs are a BIG part of our lives, so we need someone who is comfortable around them and OK with the dogs and cat living in the house. We have one very quiet horse for you to ride - normally we have more, but we have just had to retire one and he has been replaced by a baby who needs in-hand, long reining work, so a challenge for anyone trained in this work? Plenty of bush and quiet tracks to ride on. Two of our Workawayers saw a koala! Wallabies appear every day, there are echidnas and kangaroos and there is a huge range of birds around us.
Absolutely no smokers, sorry!

The best host family ever! A very open, friendly and funny family.
I had a lot of fun with them and the feeling of being a part of the family. It was great to meet nearly all their family members and their friends, they were so lovely!
Furthermore they were very patient to show me what to do, always with a smile on their faces.

Carryn stayed with us for about six weeks and was so wonderful that all my family hosted her too! Carryn is a lovely person who worked very hard, always looking for things to do. She made friends easily and won the respect of all our friends, family and neighbours and she was great with our animals, especially the horses.

Sabine is brilliant! She fit very easily and comfortably into our household and was a huge help to me, allowing me to get a great deal of work and study done while she was here. Sabine has plenty of initative and will do any job she sees needs doing, you don't have to have a work plan for her. She is very cheerful, confident and capable, is a more
Laura, Jasi and Coline stayed with us for over a month and even looked after our place by themselves when we went away. They are fun and hard working and all of them were great with our dogs, cat and horses. The girls did whatever I asked of them cheerfully and well, and were keen to do things for us although it took them a few days to settle in. more
We had a perfect time at the Ryan family!
They live in gorgeous nature in a big and new house where we had our own beautiful room. Furthermore it was great that they had space for all of us. The animals were so lovely and the horses so quiet that Jasi had the chance to learn riding with Barbaras help. We had wonderful rides around their place. more

Melanie stayed with us for a month and was a terrific Workawayer for us. She worked hard and was very organised and was excellent with our animals. She has a good eye for problems, and helped me a great deal with the health of the animals.
Melanie is an amazing cook and treated us to many French treats while she stayed. Melanie was very fun more

Aya is a terrific Workawayer who is motivated and a very hard worker. She was exactly what she said she was and she fit very easily into our household. She was happy to help with the house chores as well as the fun stuff with the horses and did whatever was asked of her cheerfully and well. Aya has a great sense of humour and was happy to relax more
The Ryan household was like home away from home for me. The whole family was so incredibly friendly and welcoming and I absolutely loved spending time with every one of them! The horses were beautifully behaved and wonderful to ride, the cat was a gorgeous diva and the dogs were beautiful. I had a great time and I am looking forward to meeting you more
Jo is absolutely fantastic - she is capable, self-motivated, easy going, hard working and fit into our family SO easily. We will really miss Jo when she leaves. She was really great with our teenage daughters, motivating them to get things done and interested in what they were doing all the time. She can cook and the jobs she did were all done more
I had a wonderful time at the Ryan household and miss them all already! I really felt like part of the family while I was there and ended up staying longer than expected. They were so welcoming and keen to help me settle in and I learnt a lot while I was there. The house is fantastic and in a beautiful setting with stunning views. They are such a more
