We'd love to learn about permaculture and sustainable building, but are happy to get stuck into anything really. Generally passionate about anything sustainability, community, or art and music related
Descripción
Hey! We're Kirk and Rosa, from UK and Netherlands respectively. We just started our world travel, and are currently on our way to Bosnia. We're hitchhiking around and planning to spend most of our time doing WorkAways. We are specifically interested in permaculture and sustainable building, but have wide interests and are excited to get stuck into anything.
Rosa has worked for many years in art and community spaces, where she was involved in organising exhibitions, workshops, lectures etc. The last few years she worked as a web developer, building websites for charities. Kirk has many years hospitality experience and also worked as a Greenpeace fundraiser. Most recently he worked for a charity that helps disabled adults to get work experience, where he amongst other things led poetry workshops.
Some things we love doing include: growing mushrooms (oyster, shiitake etc), music (clarinet, piano, synth, guitar), building DIY furniture, anything community or sustainability related, growing vegetables, hula hooping, crochet, and anything else crafty.
We are independent, hard-working, pro-active and easygoing. We're positive people, and don't need much luxury, as we're used to travelling around with our tent and doing a lot of wild camping and hitchhiking. So if your place is pretty basic that will be no issue for us. We like getting a bit wild and away from society.
We're looking forward to working on some amazing projects and spending time with some good people.
Hopefully see you soon!
A little message from Rosa: I have noticed that many Workaway hosts make a lot of assumptions about female Workawayers, e.g. they can not do lifting, building or any similar 'manly' tasks. Often the boys are asked to do these things, while I am given a broom to do some cleaning, or given a kitchen task (this sounds funny but it's not an exaggeration and has happened many times exactly like this, and very blatantly). I'd appreciate if you treat me like a human and not like whatever you think a 'girl' is or should be. If you think I can't or don't want to do a task then ask me, don't just assume.
Goes without saying that this also means Kirk isn't incapable of cleaning. He's actually pretty good with a broom :D

There was no retreat going on while we were there, so we spend our time working on the garden together with Dimitri, another volunteer. We had a very wholesome time and were happy to be able to help. We'll come back at some… read more
