Hi! How are you doing?
I've recently moved from London to Scotland, following different WorkAway opportunities and landscapes.
I'm a budding freelance nature/culture writer, currently focusing on contemporary landscape painters and their connection to place in their practice.
In London, I had two part time jobs which taught me many valuable skills in teamwork, organisation, independence, and hospitality, including Team Leader at a south London charity's fundraising café. I also volunteer at two museums working with visitors.
Highly organised, polite, self-motivated and disciplined, with a hunger for outdoors adventure, I'm looking to experience life in remote Scotland - working in hospitality, heritage sites, farm and gardens/ outdoors.
Scotland draws me with its landscapes, remoteness, friendly communities, and cultural history. I am currently at a lovely WorkAway placement at a café on Skye, which I'm absolutely loving! Then, I'm off to the Isle of Rum for another WorkAway in community projects.
Meeting so many new people and bumping into so many unthought of opportunities has been a highlight of this trip so far, and I hope to continue this through further WorkAways in Scotland.
Alongside my professional qualifications, I have many hobbies which give me skills relevant to many WorkAway placements. I am outdoorsy: I have spent a week solo kayaking and camping in the Stockholm Archipelago, and I hiked Offa's Dyke solo, camping along the way. I am gradually climbing through the Munros. I love wild/ cold water swimming too. I run for pleasure and health - I've done several half marathons for charity, including a recent Switzerland trip running the Jungfrau Half (up a mountain!!).
I also love reading - about nature (Robert MacFarlane is key), poetry (the Romantics), and cutting autobiographies (Cheryl Strayed's 'Wild').
I feel my adventurous personality and my hard working attitude to get a job done properly will make me well suited and welcome at your site.
Thank you for reading my profile. I can't wait to hear from you about an opportunity!Intereses

I have many years' experience in hospitality and management. I am currently a Team Manager for Burgess Sport Charity's hospitality branch: Clubhouse Cafe in south London. All profits fund sport activities and holiday camps for local underprivileged children. Working here has taught me many skills with customer service, providing high quality experiences and food/drinks to the valued customers supporting the charity. As Team Manager, I have also learnt to resolve conflict and answer inquiries when they arise.
I have learnt to multi-task: fulfilling immediate tasks in catering, but also managing the stock levels, cleaning rota, and ensuring employee welfare. I have also developed an eye for presentation, having undergone the Health and Safety and Hygiene training.
Previously, I worked in a pub in my university holidays. Here, I was made maitre-d'; I combined my naturally chatty and warm personality with a professional demeanour of host to give guests the best possible experience.
Working in arts and heritage has taught me a lot about administrative organisation and online communications. I have also learnt many skills with tools and electrics, as these are involved with exhibition installations. I am looking to do something 'hands-on' like this.
I am an experienced teacher to children of a variety of ages and from a range of backgrounds and needs. In 2019 I taught at school camps, one in Japan and two in Hong Kong. For the past year I have been an online tutor to children sitting GCSEs with English as a foreign language. At Clubhouse Café I am in a position of care and responsibility as I welcome a student from a local special needs school every Monday to do voluntary work. This is great for the café, as it is able to fulfil its charitable agenda, and great for the student, as he is able to acquire skills in the workplace which otherwise would not be accessible. Over the past year, I feel we have developed a friendship.
I am experienced with animals, having walked dogs and ridden/ mucked out horses since childhood. I have volunteer experience from a local city farm, where I worked both with machinery and animals.
I am skilled with working outdoors with garden/ land work - and I enjoy it!Edad

I worked here for just over 2 months towards the end of the season (Sept-Nov), and stayed in the very well equipped and modern flat above the café with two other girls who were also working at the café . This was a super cosy accommodation and convenient as a place to live: not… read more
Alex is a wonderful host – really welcoming, calm, interesting, and even though he might try and pretend to be a curmudgeon, he's a great laugh and even a little bit silly... The work he lined up for us volunteers was always engaging, and he made sure that both us and the community got something out of it.
