Hi! We are Carla (Brazil, 40) and Stephen (Australia, 30). We are both very passionate about travelling, exploring new places, meeting new people and being in contact with nature.

Hi, I’m Carla! I’m a friendly, easy going Brazilian, with an Italian background. I moved to Europe 15 years ago and have lived in a few different countries (Italy, England, Scotland, Netherlands, and Bulgaria). I have been learning and trying to live more sustainably. I would love to get more practical experience and live closer to nature, that’s why I think workaway would be an excellent way to exchange my current skills and learn new ones whilst experiencing local life in different places. I can speak Portuguese, English, Italian and understand ok Spanish (not so ok speaking it!). I consider myself to be a hard-working person who is always up for a new challenge!

Hi, I’m Stephen! I’m a laid-back Australian with an Irish background. I had a very stressful job in Melbourne as a town planner and I’ve made the decision to come to Europe to start a new chapter of my life, an adventure with my partner Carla. As we are both passionate about learning new skills and the natural world, we have decided to use workaway to explore different places in Europe and gain some hands-on experience in the world outside of cities and offices! I’m a very curious person, interested in meeting new people, enjoy the comedic side of life and am always up for physical and challenging work.

More than anything we love to try different things and gather as many skills and knowledge as possible 😊

Carla

I’m a product design engineer with a master’s degree in sustainability. I love working with my hands and have a little knowledge about permaculture, which I tried to apply to an allotment I rented in England. I weeded, prepared the soil, planted vegetables, flowers and herbs. I love designing, building, and fixing things. Can’t see anything broken without trying to fix it! I’m good with computers (fixing hardware and software) and I also have graphic design skills, I can design logos, leaflets, and social media graphics. I was a member of the CSR team of one of the companies I worked for, responsible for evaluating its sustainable practices and assisting the company in developing strategies to tackle the environmental impact of the business. Before I became an engineer, I worked for many years in catering, restaurants, bars, and cafes serving and dealing effectively with customers.

Stephen

I’m an ex-accountant turned town planner. I am interested in all things trees and love working in the garden whenever I get the chance. I’ve redesigned and built my parents’ garden and my own. The work involved preparing the soil, building brick garden beds, sowing grass, and planting trees. Over Covid I helped maintain my parents’ house including painting, cleaning, restoring furniture and plaster work. I love to cook and look after the environment where I live, keeping it clean and doing minor repairs when necessary. I’ve worked at a supermarket and retail, so have experience being on my feet all day.
In my professional experience as a town planner, I’m used to solving problems and thinking holistically. I’m very passionate about finding solutions that benefit the broader community and environment and not just individual people. For example, I studied the impact that trees have on our health and the environment and always tried to incorporate spaces for trees to be planted in the projects I was working on. This passion is something I’m really looking to explore with more hands-on work.
