I could stay 2 weeks in La Laja, with Zdenka and Kay, too short ! I fell in love with the place and the island, so peaceful and beautiful, with amazing views on the Teide and the big rocks of La Gomera. I could go every morning walk the dogs and feed the pigs in the valley, and then come back to mainly do woodwork. I had the time to build a foldable table and also start other projects and am super happy I could help with my skills and contribute to make their home a little bit better :) Zdenka and Kay are both very chilled, appreciative of the work, welcoming ideas, very open, funny and communicative. It was a pleasure to be with them Also, I got to eat a lot of fruits and veggies that Zdenka harvested and then cooked deliciously !! I just loved my experience there and wished I'd have more time

We had the most excellent experience staying with Myrna and Paul. They are two of the loveliest people we’ve had the pleasure of meeting. It was such a beautiful environment in which we had a lot of fun, learned a lot, gained experiences and made many memories. If you’re not afraid to have a great time leaning, and get your hands dirty. I Highly recommend a stay with Myrna & Paul.

It was a great opportunity for us to host Sunny in our farm. She was trained and experienced in the permaculture, therefore she adopted to our farm very quickly. During very short period of time, she helped us a lot, especially in maintaining the seasonal veggie garden. We started to eat purslanes Sunny 🙂❤️ Thank you so much for your hardwork and lovely friendship.

Christian spent a month with us in the early spring of 2024. He is a very modest man who does not say much. Christian has done a lot of work for us. He is extremely strong and has cleared a lot of construction rubble and also done other heavy lifting work. He also worked in our gardens where he could operate the brush cutter for long periods of time. But his pièce de résistance was the renovation of an old natural stone interior wall from which he first thoroughly removed the old pointing and then repointed the wall with great patience and precision. He works very independently and selected the material he needed himself, and he also turned out to be very price-conscious. On his days off, Christian enjoyed long walks, sometimes spending up to 10 hours at a time wandering around the hills. In short, Christian is a very suitable guy who we can wholeheartedly recommend. We hope to see him again.

J'ai partagé pendant trois semaines le savoureux quotidien de Camille et Marco (et leur petite fille Gaia) et en la compagnie de Céline, navigatrice géniale. C'était une aventure humaine épanouissante, inspirante et riche en belles conversations, et une aventure au verger, au potager et à la bananeraie près de la rivière intense, elles m'ont fait grandir et réfléchir à bien des niveaux. En plus d'avoir adoré passer trois semaines dans la nature au milieu des fruits et des fleurs, à être témoin de l'incroyable fertilité de Flores, et la géniale créativité de tout le petit monde qui passait à la maison, cela m'a ouvert de nouveaux possibles dans ma vie sur le continent. Merci beaucoup Camille, Marco et Gaïa, à bientôt peut être!

Got to pick these two gems up at the airport as I dropped other travellers in Queenstown. We did a wee bit of sight seeing and took the long way back to Omakau via Gore and Bluff. Holly and Tom were a breeze to have. Looked after Dottie for me, did lots of weeding at a vineyard I was working at. Was such a great help. They were great to have round the house and kept everything clean and tidy. Hope you enjoy the rest of your travels and don't forget there is always a bed here for you.

Remi was great to have staying here. He fitted in well with my flatmate and it was good that he took both dogs for lots of walks. He was very helpful round the house and could clean up after himself and cook as well. There was lots of weeding and bulbs to plant in the garden, firewood to bring in and a general tidy of the workshop. Nothing I ask was ever a problems. All the best for the rest of your travels and it would be great to have you back one day.

Alison was with us during a somewhat complicated month, during which Raffaele went through a period of strong jealousy towards his little brother. Nonetheless, Alison has always been patient, sweet and attentive with him! Her help for us was invaluable both with the children and at home she was always ready to help me sort out the toys and tidy up where the children made a mess. It was a pleasure hosting you and we hope to see you again soon :) ciao Alison!!!

Solidaritas offers a fantastic chance to engage with a variety of real-world projects, both on-site and in administrative roles. Sella values your skills, giving you significant responsibilities in the projects, which is uncommon today without a degree or extensive experience. This opportunity has allowed me to test my abilities and discover my preferences, providing valuable personal insights. You truly make an impact here. However, be prepared for long working hours and sleeping at the office in the bustling city of Manado, where quiet spots are rare and foreigners are a novelty. I am deeply grateful to Sella and Sonny for welcoming me into their home and allowing me to be part of their NGO team. I respect and appreciate all that you do :)

I spent 6 wonderful weeks at Ingrid’s place. After arriving, I immediately felt welcomed and had no doubt that this will be a great time - and I was right. Over the first few days I got to know the horses, cats, the place itself, my tasks and Ingrid. The work was totally manageable and if there were any questions or so I could always ask Ingrid and she would help me. I spent the early mornings mucking out, feeding the horses and cats and doing whatever needed to be done so I had nearly every day enough time to ride one (or more :D) of Ingrid’s wonderful and well-trained horses. Don’t get me wrong, it’s physical work and it’s exhausting (especially in the beginning when you need to adapt to this) but it’s totally worth it because you will get rewarded with great meals, a comfy room and quality time with the animals and Ingrid :) If you’re not riding a horse or mucking out, you’ll probably sit in the kitchen with Ingrid and listen to a lot of good stories, laughing a lot and just feel home there. We ate nearly all meals together and most of the time, Ingrid was cooking, sometimes I showed a new recipe, sometimes we cooked together, always depending on the level of energy or who has time. Overall I am grateful for all the experiences there, I fell in love with the horses (especially with the black stallion), I am so happy that I was sitting in the saddle that often again, I will certainly miss the evenings together and the good laughs about everything happening. Until we see each other again, I wish Ingrid all the best and store the memories in a special place in my heart.

I stayed with Helena for just over 3 weeks and had an amazing experience. Helena made me feel very welcome and was mindful in her requests for duties to be performed. I was originally house sitting but due to an incident, Helena was unable to take her vacation and asked if I would be able to assist her in getting around which I was happy to do. Helena's mobility was better than I had anticipated so I assisted with some projects. Helena was great in organising what I needed so I could get on with the jobs at hand. She was always complimentary of the work I did and was great at letting me get on with what was required and supporting in whatever way she could. I felt our energetic exchange was very fair and I very much enjoyed my stay and hope I can return. Rufie and Pluto the dogs were also great additions. It is very quiet but Helena has a motorised bicycle which she gave me the freedom to use whenever. I had my own car so was able to get around but I was also taken into town with Helena on many occasions. Helena is a great host and her cooking is top. I can highly recommend Helena as a great host.

Hello, good to everyone. I write this message from the depths of my heart to contribute to improving the environment of this place. When this volunteering started, I came for 3 months but ended up abandoning the 2nd month. When I started here I had a lot of motivation, but as time went by I lost it due to the fact of doing a lot of details and not receiving much, it has changed, in addition to working the most. part of the days more than 5 hours, with some days of hard work, I must also say that the attention to the volunteers could be improved more, especially when they come for a long time. Regarding food, I must say that I like Bernhard's cooking, but I did have to go to the supermarket every week to buy something because the established food was rich in fiber and many times at mealtime my appetite returned, normally I She cooks once a day and the volunteers are in charge of collecting the products from the garden and washing the utensils. Learning topic, I think it is a very interesting place if what you want to learn is something about permaculture, the projects that the host has in mind are good and you can learn from them. Having said that, I want to let people who plan to come here know that if you come for 2 weeks, don't worry, you will have a pleasant time and you may learn something, and if you plan to come for a longer period of time, I recommend that you try to have good communication with the host since I consider it important and a little of that is needed here. I also want to thank all the volunteers that I have met in this place (Julian, Sabi, Anna, Tobia, Henri, Vivian, Isabel, Lea and of course King Kingsley) many kisses and hugs for everyone, you have been very helpful to me, thank you :) On the other hand, I want to thank Bernhard for letting me go with him because I undertook this journey with a very low level of English. Jasmin is very understanding and efficient in her work. She is very good at cooking Taiwanese food. My children and I both love her cook. She just like children's older sister to take care them. If you need a careful helper, Jasmin will be a good choice!

Lily was staying here in Solbakki 2022 with six other volunteers and we had very good time. She is hard worker, has good ideas how to solve things and was leading in kitchen work most days, even when it was my day to do something and I liked it all very much. Lily is overall relaiable, hardworking and fun to work with.

Emma was an outstanding volunteer, we recommend her to all hosts! Emma spent 2 months here and we have already invited her back in the autumn. Emma had a great attitude and quickly learned the cat’s routine. Her previous care background shows in her maturity, ability to clean to a high standard, see what needs to be done without being asked and in her interpersonal relationships. Emma has good animal handling skills and was able to safely medicate the cats. Emma is an excellent driver and can use a sewing machine which is always a plus for us. She mended some cat bedding and sewed the lavender bags. Emma was great fun, it was clear she enjoyed the project and the company of the other volunteers. Thanks also for the cooking and keeping the house clean, especially the oven! We look forward to having her back Jo

my experience with Reyna and her son Daniel was simply amazing. they are the most warm hearted, kind and joyful people. my Spanish improved so much by talking to them on a daily basis and I could help them with their English. every meal is a party. the work was very easy, I had a lot of free time to explore the area. Daniel also showed me a lot of nature and surrounding villages, taught me a lot about Chiapas culture. they are my family now, I miss them and will visit them again

We spent a couple of weeks in the mountain hut, even though we didn’t spend much time with Tayler and Neil, the atmosphere at the hut was very chill and friendly. Since there were around 10 volunteers there at the same time, we did some activities together. The help they needed at that moment was mainly painting, but we also did some cleaning. It’s a nice area to explore, and we can imagine how beautiful it will be in the winter season!

Naina's place was our very first stop arriving in New Zealand and we felt so welcomed straight away. We really enjoyed our time helping out around the house and preparing and sharing meals in the evening. Naina and Amba were both genuine, kind and open to exchanging cultural information and travel stories and giving us lots of tips about the local area and New Zealand in general. We appreciated being invited along to local events and family dinners where we got to meet so many interesting people and share experiences. Naina's house is on a beautiful street so close to town and also some lovely walking tracks. Thank you Naina and Amba for welcoming us into your home :)

Rita is an extremely positive & knowledgeable person who shines enthusiasm for all conservation oriented work. Prior to her workaway week beginning, we invited Rita to a Hui/meeting in Nelson where she attended a practical workshop on how to check traplines for predator control with Cam Speedy, as part of Predator Free 2050. Rita is a quick learner and after just one day of training with Nige was able to independently check a predator trap line, with a variety of different traps. In addition, Rita's other work included trail building and planting. Rita is a kind person, always checking in to see if she could help with washing up, cooking and in general is considerate of others. One of our many fun nights was instigated by Rita where we created a May Workaway favourites playlist on Spotify; what a great way to remember our time together. Thanks Rita for your enthusiasm, professionalism and affirmation of the conservation work we are doing here. Thanks also for capturing amazing nature photos (particularly of the fungi here in this place) - your photography is amazing!
