We are Jim and Michela and live in the countryside outside of Ostuni. We own and run a vintage clothing store in town. When we are not at the shop we enjoy time at home with our three dogs, good music & food, and sharing time and energy with good people.
We have beautiful land with many fruiting trees including olives, almonds, apricots, figs, crazy amounts of lemons and mandarin oranges and other citrus etc etc. We love to garden and grow our own food. We live in our villa and nearby on a separate piece of land we have our cottage that we rent as a laid back getaway for travelers and artists. Our workaway guests will stay in the private cottage that is just a one minute walk from our house…perfect for a couple of a single traveler. Hilltop views of the valley in a large olive grove, the cottage is a wonderful and comfortable stay with all the necessities and more. Also, it is next to our home so we will share meals when we can and you will have some responsibilities but can unplug and do our own thing when needed.
Our hope is to share the space with likeminded travelers who are hard working and laid back. There is always something to do on the land and with help we can improve and grow the space in a way that would be impossible without a few helping hands.
Jim: I am from Rochester, New York and lived in NYC / Brooklyn for many years before doing a workaway program in Ostuni in 2014. I got my Italian citizenship through my great grandparents bloodline and have lived here ever since slowly building a beautiful life in Italy. I’ve worked in television, as a touring musician, gardener, house painter and many things in between and enjoy sharing my knowledge and experiences with kind people. I’ve had wonderful experiences as a workaway and it is the reason I ended up here in Ostuni. I’ve also had not so wonderful workaway experiences while I was traveling…so as a host I’m sensitive to what it is like to be a workaway traveler, and my goal is to make this one of the best experiences you can have 😎
Michela is originally from Parma, Italy but has lived in Puglia for the past 10+ years. She too has worked as a workaway, is a great cook, kind and will help you learn Italian.Tipos de ayuda y oportunidades de aprendizaje

We can share a lot of knowledge about general gardening as well as Puglia specific agriculture. We are very well versed in food, love to cook and can share meals. Pizza night is a favorite of ours and we can fire up our wood burning oven and make pizzas together.
Obviously we speak Italian if that’s something you’re interested in learning, but Jim’s mother tongue is English so we will be able to communicate as you wish.
We both play guitar and other instruments, have a deep love of music from all genres and eras that we love to talk about, and even have a recording “studio” in our villa with nice equipment for traveling musicians.
We love travel and learning about new places we should go check out and making friends with people from all over the world.
We hope to have a good exchange of ideas and knowledge with our guests and are happy to share whatever we can…and we hope to learn some new and interesting things from our guests as well 😊Ayuda
We are looking for help with gardening, simple tasks and generally improving the land and properties. Whether it be planting new trees, creating new garden spaces, weeding, tidying up the palms, raking leaves…there is always something to do on the land.
Depending on the season we may need help painting or weatherproofing furniture, small building projects, and are open to base projects and tasks on special skills that our travelers have.
We are also open to house sitting and dog watching with the right people as there are times when we need to take short trips to purchase for our shop, and it would be wonderful to have some help with keeping the house in order and the dogs happy for a few days.
We are open and flexible and Jim tends to take the lead on projects and you’ll be giving him a hand as he will be working side by side when possible, and there may also be times when we have our work in the store to focus on and will leave you to accomplish things on your own.Idiomas hablados

You’ll stay in a cozy cottage with a wood burning stove, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, views of the valley in beautiful surroundings. We rent this space out during the summer months so it is a very nice set up as far as Workaway accommodations are concerned.
Depending on what our agreement is for work and food you will obviously be free to cook and enjoy the space as you see fit. As a loose rule if we are doing work together we will have at least one nice meal together but again are flexible and will discuss prior to your arrival what works best for everyone.Algo más...
We are very close to many beautiful towns, local markets, great restaurants and off the beaten path farm to table food experiences. A short drive to the Adriatic Sea, and a slightly longer drive to the Ionian Sea. I’ve worked in tourism and trip planning so I’m happy to share the highlights and hidden gems for when you are here.
