Silver Coast, one person or couple invited for gardening and general property maintenance

I am early retired from a high pressure job in the UK and living simply with two traditionally built Portuguese houses in a beautiful spot overlooking the Obidos Lagoon between the town of Caldas da Rainha and the seaside resort of Foz do Arelho. I have three dogs and two horses at home and work part time as an equestrian professional. We have a large garden and veg patch which I would love to be better tended and old properties always require maintenance.

Weeding, planting, general garden clearing, digging, stable/field cleaning, Competence in use of equipment such as strimmer or chainsaw useful but not essential. DIY skills inside and outside the houses. Applicants need to be self starters, not physically weak and with the ability to follow simple instructions without constant supervision. If you can't push a wheelbarrow full of horseshit and have to do weeding sitting down maybe this is not the place for you.

One double room in hosts house with private bathroom. There is also a seperate self contained bedsit with double bed. Suits single or couple. Bathroom, kitchen area, access to 2 acre garden. Some communal meals but basically self catering, food provided. Please state your food requirements prior to arriving.

The houses are rural and out of the village but not isolated. Obidos Lagoon is a magnet for birdwatchers and water sports enthusiasts. Near the house is a sailing school offering sailing, windsurfing, canoeing and other pastimes. Opportunity to learn Natural Horsemanship skills. The forests that border the lagoon are great for hiking and biking. The beach at Foz do Arelho is spectacular. There are bars, restaurants and nightclubs in Foz do Arelho (4km). The local village is in walking distance and has bars and restaurants and a bus to the town of Caldas da Rainha (6km). Bring mosquito repellant for your comfort at dawn and dusk in the warmer months.

I had a great first Workaway experience with Janet and her dogs! I helped her finish some painting of new shelving in her kitchen and built another small cabinet. that along with some garden work and tree planting kept me busy for most of a week. She was great company and I ate till my fill everyday! Thanks Janet for being my first host!
I enjoyed having Jake here for a week. He did some painting in the kitchen, some carpentry and helped out in the garden. Whatever he did it was done efficiently and concientiously. He is good company and pleasant to have around. I look forwards to following details of his world tour.
Wayne and Tracey were with me for nearly a couple of months. They exemplify everything a host could wish for in their workawayers. They are both nice, kind, considerate and hardworking people. We we're lucky enough to stay with Jan for a couple of months and to be honest found it hard to leave! Jan's place and the surrounding areas are absolutely beautiful, maybe our favourite in Portugal yet! We stayed with Jan for 5 nights and transformed the garden with a backyard blitz. Jan was a generous host and a wonderful cook. Nicole stayed with me for 2 weeks. She is a hard working and very conscientious and as we share an interest in food, from growing it to putting it on a plate, it was an interesting exchange of ideas.
This was my first workaway experience. Jan's place is in such a beautiful setting! She was great with my gluten free diet - we got pretty inventive. Jan is an excellent cook. Nina is a lovely genuine person and in many ways mature and thoughtfull beyond her years. She was delightfull company and always made herself cheerfully usefull for whatever task was at hand.
