Beschreibung

We are a Community Education and Wellness Center in San Jose del Cabo, southern Baja. We host weekly classes in Yoga, breathwork, dance, art, music, ecology and sustainable living. We also host workshops and trainings with similar focuses. We have a number of guest rooms in our building and an organic restaurant, in the garden.

We are now starting an organic farm, ecology and sustainable living center in the same town and can accommodate a variety of volunteer services. See Volunteer Exchange Program details below! Please contact us with any interest or questions and to apply to volunteer.

~ The Exchange Opportunity ~

At present, Volunteer Program offers the following Exchange Opportunity. Applicants will be chosen based on the length of time they can commit as well as their relevant qualifications, skills & experience.

Offers…
1) A Learning Opportunity: Learn by doing! As a Volunteer , you will have the opportunity to dig your hands into any number of developmental realms, be it with gardening, construction, animal husbandry, art & marketing, community outreach, children’s education or non-profit development. The crew will take an educational field trip once a month to visit other projects in Southern Baja such as our friends at a local Permacultural Community in the mountains or Botanical Garden Sanctuary. Also, the team will organize and teach Sustainable Living Technologies workshops twice a month for the greater San Jose del Cabo community to which volunteers will have the opportunity to teach or attend!

Furthermore, each volunteer will choose an area(s) of focus on which they will spend 15 volunteer hours each week. The following is an exemplary list of current projects:
a) Ecological Vegetable, Herb & Flower Gardens
b) Ecology & Sustainability Education Program for Children
c) Green Building & Design
d) Sustainable Farming Education for Local Agricultural Community
e) Composting Center Establishment
f) Rotational Grazing System Management for Small-Scale Animal Farming

2) Living Accommodations: volunteers will live on-site on our 8-acres of wild estuary floodplain right outside downtown San Jose del Cabo using the demonstration sites, which have been designed to exemplify the ways in which we can make sustainable choices with each aspect of our daily life. Accommodations offered will be as follows:

a) Housing: Volunteers have the option of living in dorm-style setting in our Biodome, setting up a tent site or possibly building their own living site such as a teepee or casita made of local materials (depending on level of construction skill). Tents are not provided.

b) Living Sites: We have just finished construction of an outdoor kitchen with running water, food storage and food preparation installments as well as Composting Toilets. A yoga, meditation and reading lounge screened in with mosquito fabric and solar showers are also in their final stages of completion.

c) Food: Food from the farm varies based on seasonal-availability, but generally from Late November-May there is an abundance of vegetables, herbs and soon-to-come eggs on the farm. Volunteers are welcome to share in this bounty. Volunteers are expected to come prepared to cover their food expenses beyond what is available on the farm.
d) Bicycles & Local Buslines are available for transportation.

a) Yoga Studio: All yoga, dance, breath & meditation classes are available, free-of-charge, to La Semilla volunteers. During the main season (October-May), the Yoga Studio offers classes 2-5 times per day so the opportunity to enhance or expand your own practices awaits you!
b) Community Computer, Internet, Laundry & Long-Distance Phone Services are available for use.
c) Community Connections & Engagement: Raices y Brazos is a gathering point for San Jose’s creatives, activists, yogis, musicians and families. There are lots of opportunities to make new connections and friends by joining in the yoga center, restaurant or community events!

Volunteers Offer…
1) Time Commitment: Minimum 2-3 months, 25 hours/week (5 hours/day). Volunteer hours are broken down into two categories and an Exchange Program is designed with the core team based on volunteer interest, skill & qualifications and project need.

a) General Volunteer Program (10 hours/week): This could include gardening, animal management, general land maintenance, compost management, building & construction support, etc. This will be determined based on volunteer skill, qualification and experience as well as interest and project need.

b) Individualized Volunteer Program (15 hours/week): Each volunteer, as noted above, will choose an area(s) of focus within project plans to invest time in. Current project focuses are as follows:
i) Ecological Vegetable, Herb & Flower Gardens
ii) Ecology & Sustainability Education Program for Children
iii) Green Building & Design
iv) Sustainable Farming Education for Local Agricultural Community
v) Composting Center Establishment

2) Volunteers are expected to come prepared to engage with the following orientation:

a) Working Style: A self-motivated, self-guided, service-oriented, disciplined, punctual, creative, solution-oriented, respectful & playful working style is valued within the community.
b) Communication Style: A non-violent, proactive & mature communication style is expected amongst all team members.
c) Living Style: A community-oriented, mutually-respectful, friendly, generous, other-oriented, self-sufficient & cooperative style of communal living is required of the community.

3) Food & Accommodations: Volunteers will be expected to come prepared to cover the costs of food beyond farm-provided vegetables & eggs. Volunteers will also be required to bring a tent if interested in sleeping in tent-style accommodations.
