This was my first time leaving my country, and I was a bit nervous. However, the second that we arrived onto Katja and Noel's property I knew I was gonna be fine. The family is kind and very funny, the mobile home in which you stay is clean and they offer you anything you need, and the property is teeming with life. There are mini pigs, goats,
… read more horses, and too many dogs and cats to count. So if you aren't used to a house full of animals, be warned that it can be a tad overwhelming. Their daughter, Ronya, took us all over the country to see all the breathtaking sights Ireland offers. I stayed for Christmas and New Years, and they made sure to include me in every activity. They even gave me presents :) I had a report due on a concert, and so we all booked last minute tickets to see a band in Dublin. I think this was the best experience for someone interested in seeing the sights, as the sisters Ronya and Fionnghuala are just excited to travel as you'll be.
The work is rewarding, and doesn't take too long (especially if there's a lot of other workaways to help). The Icelandic horses are very sweet, except Tvenna. She is tiny but if she decides she wants to go somewhere, she's wrestling out of your grip and running. Afterwards, you have the time to hang out with the family or relax by yourself. Dinners are the best, I have attempted to copy Katja's cooking but it never tastes the same. Half of why I'm going back in the summer is to have her famous pasta again.
This family is hilarious and witty, and staying with them for a month and a half made me realize what it's like to have someone genuinely on your team. If you're doing something dumb, they will all let you know (especially Oisin, who adored describing my decisions as "American" with his signature eye roll). Just know it's always with an undertone of love. I think I learned a lot about myself just through their honesty. I cannot wait to go back and binge Harry Potter, stay up way past midnight playing a chaotic game of Monopoly, or ride the Icelandics along the trails by their house. I would highly recommend!

It was my first time doing Workaway and working with horses and it couldn’t have been a better first experience. My original plan was to stay there for 2 months but I ended up staying for 4 months. The family as well as all the animals (well maybe except for Tvenna;)) are extremely friendly and fun to be around.

The weekends are off and can be spend alone or with the family. I would always recommend going somewhere with the family as they can show you some of the best places in Ireland. I had the chance to experience many wonderful and entertaining road trips with Ronya, Nuli and the other Workaways including visiting breathtaking beaches, going to a concert and driving through the entire country.
Food is always available and every evening everyone gets together to eat the freshly cooked dinner Katja made, which is always delicious.
After dinner we often had fun game nights with the whole family, relaxed in the hot tub or baked some cookies.
During my stay I had the opportunity to learn many new skills, which I am very grateful for.
Nuli is excellent at teaching how to ride and everything you need to know about their horses.
Ronya introduced me to the rules of gaelic football and we even went to see a game with the entire family, which was a great experience.
If you like crafty stuff and want to improve your sewing skills, Katja is always happy to teach you everything you need to know from basic sewing to quilting amazing motifs.
A household with this many animals plus Workaways coming and going can be very stressful and challenging at times but nevertheless they always made sure I was well and included me in everything.
Thank you for these wonderful 4 months! I miss you all dearly and hope to come back very soon:)Solo puedes ponerte en contacto con workawayers con membresías activas.

We have been with Katja and her family for a month and a half and we enjoyed to be around them every single moment and to be around all the animals. If you love to be surrounded by animals, dogs, cats, horses, goats... You are definitely gonna love to be in this place like we did. All their animals are lovely and funny. We are sure Katja counted

In this place, you have the opportunity to spend your time as you want, you can also have your own time in the mobile home or you can go to the house and spend time with the family, sewing with Katja, playing board games, singing the greatest showman songs, the road trips and so on. Katja's family are busy people but when they have time they are gonna make sure to do things with you, to get to know you, to spend time with you, and we really recommend you to spend time with them because all of them are lovely and amazing people, funny and caring.
Also, you will be able you ride icelandic horses, visit interesting places and have lots of fun.
About the job, is not hard at all, you work 5 hours a day or less, it depends on you and how fast you are. Work ends at 12:30-1pm ish and you have all day for you until 8pm when you have to feed horses again. Work consists in feeding hay, mocking stables and filling with new straw, cleaning the arena, cleaning the goats and the pigs stables once a week. Is not a lot and you are surrounded by wonderfull animals and they all like cuddles, or at least most of them!
Remember to hug the goats!
And, for the family:
We miss you all!! We will definitely come back 💜

Amandine spent 1 month with us and we really enjoyed having her here. She was a little shy and quiet in the beginning but soon opened up and involved herself in all family activities. She is good-natured and helpful and was really good with all our animals. She would be a great addition to any family.

I stayed with Katja and her family for almost a month, and it was incredible. They really did everything to make me feel at home, and just being with them was incredibly funny. Alixa was with us for 5 weeks and helped us a lot while she was here. She made every effort to fit in with all of us and was fun to have around the place. She did her work willingly and without fuss. We would recommend her to any family and would be happy to have her back anytime.

I stayed with Katja, Noel and their family for about a month - it was a last minute decision, but I'm happy it worked out! The whole family is very nice, they always made sure that I was well, that it was warm enough in the mobile home (it was, several heaters during the winter) and made sure, that there was something to eat that everybody liked.
… read more They were very patient and always there to help and explain things, although the tasks were quite simple and the tasks in general not exhausting. The few days without another workawayer, they helped me so I wouldn't have to do everything on my own and always made sure that we don't help on our days off. All the animals were incredibly nice and like to spend time with people (I'm not entirely sure whether Icelandics are horses or dogs that pretend to be horses 😉) - I had a good time helping with some of the horses and riding the Icelandics in my freetime and really enjoyed visiting some of the amazing places Ireland has to offer (Thank you!). I really enjoyed my stay and can only recommend people who like animals (there are a lot of them! 😂) to spend a few weeks there! Thank you for your trust and for always making sure everybody was good! 😊Solo puedes ponerte en contacto con workawayers con membresías activas.

It took me a few days to get used to a different situation from my home, especially because the place is rather dirty, but as soon as I started to settle in, I fell in love with that place and the people who lived there. Katja, Noel, and all the children were very welcoming and helpful from the start. Ronya and Fionnghuala in particular were

Everyone was patient and willing to teach and correct my English mistakes. It's a very talkative, energetic, nice, and lively family; with them, you never stop having fun and learning. I loved being with them for a while and I recommend to all future workawayers to stop by this family for a boost of energy and vitality. I miss you all so much, thank you very much for everything you did for me, and I hope to see you again soon!

I stayed with Katja and Noel for two weeks and had such a great time. They are such a lovely and kind hearted family. They always made sure that I'm okay and respected my passion for the gym.
