Área: UpplandUPDATE: We have no availability in July and August. We are a couple in our early thirties and have decided to build our lives how we would like them to be rather than running in the big city treadmill. We moved to our old rundown farm in the remote and beautiful Hållnäs peninsular in 2011 and plan to turn it into an artists' residency, theatre and course venue. Alex is a former teacher from London, Åsa is a theatre designer from Uppland (the county where we live) and Vide is a very adorable baby who has not found his occupation. In three years, we hope to host small groups and individuals who need a quiet and relaxing space close to nature for creative processes. We want to produce most of our own organic food, at least in the summer time. At the moment we are at a transition point; we have made the living spaces comfortable for ourselves and a smaller number of visitors and have broken enough ground to produce most of our own food in the summer time. However, we now need to build a greenhouse, renovate the barn into rehearsal space, studio and communal kitchen, renovate the inside of an 18th C cottage and future guest house, plant fruit trees. Basic carpentry skills and an interest in gardening would be helpful to start with :) We are relaxed people who like good conversation over a glass of wine. We like listening to folk and world music and play a little accordion and guitar. We aim to make a sustainable imprint on the environment which is wild and coastal around us. We like berry and mushroom picking and in time we plan to fish with nets along the coast where we keep out boat. Long term helpers would definitely have a chance to get more closely involved with the natural life here. As we have a young baby at home, we tend to have early nights. At present we have a cat, but no other animals. In the future, we are hoping to get bees, hens and sheep or goats. Knowledge of the caring for these are very welcome! You can reach us by public transport and travel to Uppsala or Gävle over the day but a car is recommended if you want to be a bit independent. It is the remote forests here with elk, mosquitos and disease carrying ticks, so be prepared for real Swedish backwoods living :)
Área: New South WalesWe need experienced horse riders that can exercise and train our show jumping and cross country horses. You must love riding, be fit and able to work with young horses unassisted. There is also an opportunity to attend shows. You must be able to ride up to 80cm. You will help with gardening, painting, cooking and housework. A family run vineyard and horse stud located in the beautiful Hunter Valley just 1hr north west of Sydney, where we train Haflinger horses and grow Sangiovese-Brunello grapes. Our property is 220 acres with about 20 Haflinger horses. We are family of three Paul, Sharon and daughter, Stephanie (18) who speak English and a bit of German. When you're not working there is plenty to do. The historic Wollombi village is located close by, Yengo National Park, the renowned Hunter Valley Vineyards and plenty of trails and walking tracks. We can also take you to the beach, shopping on the central coast or into Sydney for day trips. It would be great if you had your own car, and could travel around the area as you please.
Área: Graaff-ReinetOur farm is part of the Compassberg Protected Environment near the top of the catchment of the Sneeuberg Mountains of the Great Karoo. We farm cattle and in the future will be running dramatherapy workshops and retreats. This remote farm is far away from the air/sound/light/noise pollution of the city. It is the ideal place to connect with yourself and with nature. We are an hour drive from the nearest ATM machine/petrol station and 20 minutes on a bumpy road to the nearest small shop. Sometimes we are cut off from civilisation for a few days when the rains turn the roads into mud soup. We do weather in a big way: In winter we have can have snow and freezing temperatures, in summer we have flash floods, electric storms and occasionally intense heat (though being up in the mountains our temperatures are never get too unbearable high for too long). But if you love mountains and fresh air and you don't need cell phone reception then you will love this farm.
Área: BavariaHi We are family Mitchell; Peter and Silka, Leonard 11, Edgar 8 and Erik 1.5, 17 chickens, 2 ducks, 4 rabbits and a guinea pig. After twelve years of living in east London, we decided the time was right for a complete change in lifestyle and some 'fresh air'! So here we are living in a remote village by the wild woods of Ober Franken or Upper Franconia, northern Bavaria. A decision also prompted by the arrival of a new member of the family in Nov 2011. Erik was born in London but won’t remember much as he was only there for 40 days! We moved to the area one and half years ago and our dream is to turn this dilapidated farm into an exciting and stimulating creative arts centre. It's a fairly big task, which is why we're looking for help and enthusiasm. We have about 3 acres of garden and woods with five buildings in various states of condition. We're looking for help reconstructing a very large and beautiful old timber barn. Other jobs include taking the boys to the pool, clearing the small beck, clearing trees from the woods and much more... If you're interested then we're the 'green heart' on the satellite image of the village: Weissenbach. Here are a few photos to help describe the place. The area has a large scale about it, huge wild forests, rolling hills and ruggedly beautiful landscapes. Weissenbach is a small active village (approx 120 inhabitants) situated at the end of the road, so there is no through traffic. The area beyond is forest and fields, other than the Buddhist monastery, which is about a 30-minute walk through the woods. We are an open minded, well travelled family who love to work hard, eat well and have fun and we would like to offer volunteers the same in a beautiful place with clear air and a wonderful array of bird song. We have bicycles to lend for fantastic on and off-road cycling, including a lovely cycle path to the historic town of Kulmbach, famous for the Plassenberg Castle and the largest tin soldier collection in the world! We're surrounded by wonderful woodland walks and there's a great outdoor swimming pool with huge slide etc, nestled in the valley about a 20 minute bike ride through the woods, which are breathtaking. This is a great place for anyone who wants to hear themselves think. The air is clear, the area is charming and I'd like to think we are a positive and fun bunch to work with. ps. we love music.
Área: AlicanteSTOP PRESS: WE ARE PARTICULARLY LOOKING FOR EITHER TWO VOLUNTEERS (OR A SINGLE VOLUNTEER WITH TRANSPORT) TO START DURING THE LAST 10 DAYS OF AUGUST FOR A LONG-TERM STAY. From the beginning of September all of us will be out at school during the day (teaching or learning!), so the volunteer(s) will need to be happy to work independently, enjoying the beautiful space on our mountain property, during weekdays. Tasks would include looking after home, animals and the garden, and preparing evening meals for our large household. We are an English family living in the mountains of Spain about 30 minutes inland from the Costa Blanca Mediterranean coast (midway between Valencia and Alicante). Phil and Jo are in their mid-forties, a teacher and musician, and both speak 5 languages (English, Spanish, French, German and Russian). We have five children between the ages of 18 and 8. We live in a solar and wind-powered wooden house at 800 metres altitude, with fantastic views out over the Mediterranean to Ibiza and in the other direction towards ridges of high mountains. We have a smallholding, consisting of goats, horses, a donkey, chickens, rabbits and extensive vegetable garden. We also have cherry and other fruit trees.
