The association will also promote technical and historical information on the horse, horsemanship, Portuguese culture and tradition and serve as a point of relationship with counter parts clubs in Portugal and abroad. Now we have the opportunity to open a new riding Centre with a project that also give us the opportunity to develop work with disabled clildren and we need help.
Region: East Gippsland, VictoriaI live in beautiful, East Gippsland, Victoria, in the small town of Orbost, halfway between Melbourne and Canberra, and on the highway to Sydney. (Melbourne is 4 to 5 hours away by car, longer by bus. Canberra likewise. Sydney is about 8 by car, longer by bus.) Orbost is close to the beach, mountains, national parks, walking and bike tracks, and caves. It truly is a glorious little place. We are driving distance to some other beautiful areas. I moved here, mid 2012, as local minister but a large part of my work is as a comunity development worker in some remote mountainous villages ... Again, in beautiful country. I appreciate travel companions. I frequently travel amongst part of the lovely Snowy Mountains, and volunteers may have the chance to see some amazing places- often in parts of the world few usual tourists would go, especially in the regional national parks. My garden used to be a showplace, but is now rather overgrown. It has potential. I envision that part of it could become an open garden, a place of peace and reflection for my community. My house and garden back onto the church grounds, so there is potential for what I have here to be a part of the bigger whole. I am raising hens at present... I enjoy watching their antics. Autumn is a lovely time here, as the colour of the trees change... There are regular public buses to the beaches, so if you don't have a car, we can work something out. Orbost is accessible by public transport. There is none in town though, so we walk, or I drive us. Still we are talking small town here, so distance is not great. Life gets hectic here at times, but there are always interesting things to do and see, and people to meet... Even in my own job sphere you will meet fun and quirky people. You would be most welcome to come... Help out... Explore... Have fun.... Although I am new to this program, I have had experience in Helpx, and in couch-surfing. I do not offer second year visa work. Sorry.
Region: Lazio, very close to Rome (35 min by train) and UmbriaWe live in the Italian countryside in a very traditional way, although we are not a traditional farm. In fact, I am a general practitioner, very often working away from home, and running a bed&breakfast at the house. This means that I need the help of someone guaranteeing continuity in the house, garden, feeding the chickens, goats etc. This also means that I have less time than I would like to be together... and I need someone who can work independently with little guidance. We have two positions to fill: one longer term (at least one month) for assisting in taking care of the house and garden, and a shorter term one for odd jobs in the garden, vegetable patch, etc. We eat healthy food from our vegetable garden and make our own bread and jams. Now we are vegetarian, and on the way to becoming vegan. We use olive oil from our own trees - which is very precious for us! Our philosophy: environment respect, domestic economy, recycling any trash, and gratefulness for what we receive from Nature... From the volunteer we expect: Interest and will to learn. Flexibility to adapt to our lifestyle and desire to be integrated. The person must be able to work independently and on their own initiative. There are many projects and types of work but you will be working on your own a lot of the time. We have had wonderfully rich experiences of meeting young and older people coming from all kinds of cultures. In the case of more volunteers present in the farm we can alternate one full day of active presence with one full day free. The station is 7 km away (from here you can walk less than 1 km to a bus stop, hitchhike or cycle). Daily chores around the kitchen are expected of everyone, even guests, this goes without saying and is not really the 'work' expected in this Workaway. . We have a maid that comes a few days a week so you are not expected to do any serious cleaning, just simple tasks like preparing the kitchen for breakfast, keeping the woodpile stocked from already cut wood (winter), watering plants (summer) and clearing the table after meals. You also need to do 4 hours of work everyday on different projects around the property and hopefully creatively contribute to the progress of the home (this could be completing a specific outdoor project, there is plenty of mending and repair work or creative projects like constructing paths with tile pieces). This task could be any number of things, but importance is placed on leaving your mark on the home and contributing. Also, if you work for a full day, this can be in exchange for a full day to visit one of several attractions or towns nearby (Rome, Assisi, Orvieto, Spoleto, to name a few) Potential workers should keep in mind that this is not a free hostel! You have to be absolutely willing to adapt yourself to the way of life here - with its rules and habits - even if it is not what you are used to. Having a positive attitude is essential in this respect. Please watch this short film to get an idea of my values, as I am not willing to compromise them- look on google Annie Leonard, "story of stuff". You should ask yourself whether or not you find this agreeable before asking to come work here. The importance of this experience is not solely the physical work in exchange for food and a bed, but rather a willingness to learn and build a relationship. Since I very often work away, I like to come back to a nice atmosphere where I can feel really at home! I am really happy for people to "feel at home" here, but I also want them to "feel the home" and really be part of it. Just to give an example, you can not enjoy a drink standing just in front of a plant dying of thirst and not do anything about it...

Region: Vallee baguilllere, Hameau de Garbet, Commune de BENAC, National Park of Ariege PyreneesHi you wonderful people. This is an urgent call for a two people, could be a couple, reliable and willing to help us on the farm and the woodland, we want people from the middle of May 2014. Some one with carpentry skills very very welcome for an eco project underway. We are also looking for possibly these same two people (or others) to take care of things whilst we are away July and August. Duties will be looking after the green house (fresh veg, new potatoes and tomatoes), checking on the sheep and taking care of our dogs and 2 cats, and house of course. It's a wonderful place here but don't trust me! Read our feedbacks! Ideally if you come in mid May you will have lots of time to get the hang of things for when we are away. If you like it here you are more than welcome to stay longer/winter over/whatever.. Look forward to hearing from you . Practical people please. You will need a driving license (European gear lever type)!! So now to the Spam !! Hi I was previously a world traveler and adventurer. Now settled in the Pyrenees with Virginia my wife, we have a lovely house and farmland (see pix below) We aspire to eco development, the house already is carbon neutral with power supplied by photovoltaic solar panels. We have a lot of land and forest and live at 600metres above sea level. This altitude guarantees 4 seasons, Spring is glorious and begins very early by European standards Summer is guaranteed to be lovely weather without it ever (!) becoming unbearably hot, Autumn is fabulous with all the hardwood leaves of the forests turning the whole area into an artists canvas, Winter we have usually two big dumps of snow between December to late Feb early March there is great skiing (three resorts - approx.one hour away). We have 2 'sheep' dogs (see photo) - Kiltie has her own flock to practice on (at present 5 sheep), super friendly cats. In the recent past we have also kept pigs chickens goats ducks sheep etc etc. We always kill and eat our own livestock personally. Everything here gets a good life (and respectful death). The reason we have downsized the farm is because we have a 45' sailing ketch moored at the moment in Gibraltar and we have been spending long periods on the boat in a large restoration project (she is wood and an American classic - we sailed her across the Atlantic). So now the boat is practically finished and we have to get the farm running again. I have a tractor (massey 70hp) plough harrow etc etc., a tracked digger and a dumper, two chainsaws etc etc. What we were hoping to accomplish this winter is to clear a piece of forest about 10 acres in size. We want to bring it back to pasture and mill all the wood we take out. In addition, we would like to maintain the veggy garden up and restore a beautiful barn (1840) as the roof has caved in and the stone walls need restoring etc etc. Where we live abounds in wildlife and birdlife, you can walk ride, ski, bike, anywhere you want, as far as Spain if you want, you will never come across a sign that says "Keep Out - Private Property" like in England (Ugh.) Life is good here, and in return for good honest work (see note below *) we can offer convivial company and accommodation, food is included as is wine. We are considered to be a good and creative cooks (and after saying this now we will have to prove it!) and like to share cooking with any-one who is interested in learning or who already has skills. I am very happy to pass along my skills to any-one interested in every facet of the project etc. So, send an e-mail with a description of who you are, what you like and perhaps a photo of yourself. This position is open to all regardless of race, sex, religion, lactose intolerance, age, number of heads etc., Aliens however, need to send me a telepathic response! We are not smokers (dope or baccy) and if we have the choice we always go for non smokers! Cheers Barry PS We speak English and French PPS We are omnivores but are happy to accommodate veggies if they are also tolerant.
