Dear Andrea, Kelsey, Harley and Quinny! I can't really put my whole experience in words at your wunderful place in Hope. I had such a wholesome time there! Thank you Andrea, for letting us have an insight in your life you built up here in New Zealand. You're such an inspirational person, full of stories and wisdom to teach. I'll always remember us just purely dancing and singing around the table and all the other moments we shared together. It's so amazing to see your passion for trees, the forest and the ideas you have for this place! I'm so thankful I was part of it, I really hope I helped you to make a small step closer to your goal and I'm more than excited to follow the process. Thank you so much for showing us around and all the time we spent out together! Thank you Kelsey for letting us workawayers stay in your house. It's so kind that you opened up your home for us and let us feel at home. I'll always cherish our time we spent together from playing cards, eating good food, watching movies and going into Nelson,... I'll never forget how we all spontanously became gym members at you gym. Thank you Harley for being such an amazing and purehearted kid.and I'm sure you'll achieve a lot in your future life :) I was there with 2 other amazing workawayers and we had a really great time working together, exploring the surroundings, cooking together, going to the Saturday market, swimming in the river on the property, trying to bake sourdough bread, watching Somebody feed Phil (if you need a simple amazing TV show, definitely give it a try).... and other wholesome things. Sadly we needed to say goodbye to you all earlier than expected, but thank you so much, Andrea, for giving us the trust to stay on longer on your amazing property. Thank you so much and I'll hope the come back someday!

Look at all that great feedback! I'll add to it, although I'm horribly late. Luke was the consummate workaway, a total pro and pleasure to host. Easy going, open minded, humourous, hard working, and now alas, I see he's gone home, the workaway world left with a Luke-less void... Besides providing his ace hardwork and attitude, while in the tent, snow-a-falling, fire-a-roaring, I was regaled with tales by Luke the Historian, while sipping on his favorite porters, of Franklin's ships on polar expeditions, hearing of men suffering through worse conditions, deeper sub zero temperatures, more booze and hard work and logistics than we'd ever know, and this made our Winter tasks so much easier - putting it all in perspective! I was also treated to the greatest inspired spontaneous poem, over breakfast beach fire coffee, also a la Luke. One day, we were essentially spat on by a humpback whale, what a wonderful but horrid thing - the worst breath on earth maybe, like being doused with rotten seafood... not even this brought a complaint from Luke! Providing the hard work, and even the entertainment, what can I say... I hope you return one day buddy!

I cant believe how lucky i was to have found this workaway opportunity! Cindy is the best! We had such fun chats, i was encouraged to be myself and i immediately felt comfortable and was fully welcomed into the family. Even whilst Cindy was on holiday, other family members and neighbours made sure i was well taken care of and i spent the family day weekend celebrating at her sisters house. Ginger is such a lovely dog, all she wants is long walks and lots of attention! Port Carling is a very small village, but is so picturesque and i made friends with lots of locals on the dog walks. I went out to dinner with neighbours, on local hikes, to hockey matches and ice skating (bonus that the rink is so close). It was the perfect place to reset and get an authentic Canadian experience and Ginger is such an easy dog to take care of. I felt really supported in my experience here and this is such a wonderful family. I spent 6 weeks here and even extended my stay several more weeks by dogsitting for her sisters puppy 'Finn', so Cindy and I would continue to meet up and take the dogs for walks. I couldn't have asked for a better experience, I now feel like i have a Canadian family :)

Telma soon proved that she had deserved the very positive feedback that she'd received from previous hosts. Whilst she was only able to stay a short while as she was approaching the end of her NZ trip, she soon impressed with her calm persona, natural curiosity and strong work ethic. Always ready to help out and highly motivated to make the most of her stay in every way. And her English is probably better than mine, which helped with her excellent comms in advance of arriving and throughout the time she was here. Most of her energy went into making hugel holes for fruit trees, so involved dragging wood, backfilling and layering ready for future planting. Cool to know that she is taking this idea home with her to apply at her mother's land. Thanks for your great company and efforts, Telma :)

It was such a pleasure to host Elisa’s for a week in April! She was super-helpful and did a great job painting a garden fence, and doing other tasks outdoors as well. She’s very responsible, and also considerate – left the suite in immaculate condition, even with fresh sheets on the bed and towels washed…Much appreciated. Also such good company! I really enjoyed our meals together; she has many interests and conversation was always a pleasure. She’s very easy-going and seemed to really enjoy the hikes and other opportunities to enjoy beautiful nature on our little island. I hope to get updates on the rest of her travels in BC!

You’ll hardly ever come across anybody more passionate about what he/she does than Kathie. She absolutely dedicated her life for the well-being of the pigs. She puts all her energy (and lots of love!) into her pig sanctuary and really works hard everyday to keep it up and running. We stayed for 5 nights and helped where we could: we cleaned up the paddock, made bonfires, cooked meals and were bellyrubbing heaps of lucky pigs. We had a little caravan for ourselves where we had a little privacy if we wanted to. But we were welcome to use her bathroom, kitchen and living room to hang out and chill if we felt like it. It’s pretty simple and rustic but functional. Kathie is very uncomplicated and easy to be around with, very straightforward, friendly and absolutely compassionate about what she does. I loved the fact she’s vegan so it made the situation in the kitchen easier for all of us. If you love animals and don’t mind roughing it out this is the place to go! We wish her all the strength and support she needs to keep the sanctuary running, it’s a blessing for all those poor pigs in need.

My time with Vee, Todd, Marlo and Millie was amazing! 😊 I felt very welcome and quickly felt like part of the family. My work didn't really feel like work, as I simply helped out in everyday life (household, laundry, garden...) and repainted the Cubby. Marlo really enjoys playing football and cricket and has done his best to teach me the rules and explain things about farm life. 🏈🐮 Millie enjoys sharing her creative thoughts and putting on fun shows for the whole family. 🥰 I really liked the easy going nature of the family and the dinner table conversations. I especially appreciated that Vee and Todd shared their thoughts openly with me. Thank you also for always inviting me along on all the trips, including me when there were guests and passing on typical Australian things to me. Thank you for the wonderful time with you! ☺️

Dan and I stayed with Alison on Gabriola Island for four weeks. She is generous, engaging and there was never a dull moment during our time spent with her. She has a lot of interesting stories to tell and made us feel at home from day one. She also was very keen for us to experience the area in which she lives and she gave us lots of ideas about places to visit which we really appreciated. Alison cares deeply for her animals - Bobby and Brydie, two handsome and characterful horses, and her beautiful dogs, Zee and Annie. They all live together in and around a newly built house on a plot of land surrounded by woodland. It's an ongoing project driven by Alison's energy and desire to achieve her vision for the property. It was very rewarding to be a part of the process. Thank you, Alison, for being flexible with working hours and trusting us with the tasks - lots of hugs and love, Jay and Dan.

I just spent one month at the château and it exceeded all my expectations! Mireille is extremely kind and open-minded and will do anything to make your stay as pleasant as possible. She is an amazing cook, which allowed me a delicious insight into the French cuisine and she will pay attention to your preferences in food. Right at the beginning she asked me if I was vegetarian or not and throughout my stay she would buy the things she noticed I liked best. I was lucky enough to meet her husband Kaci, who is a very welcoming and lively person. Beyond that, I met their children, who also were incredibly nice. Her whole family made me feel like I was a part of them which made me feel very comfortable. The property is absolutely beautiful and is taken care of by their gardeners Alexandre and Olivier. Alexandre is a very funny and kindhearted person who will show you anything you need to know about the work, all while making you feel like his friend rather than a boss. This was my first Workaway ever and I could not have hoped for anything better, thank you so much.

We stayed for 3 weeks with Wibke, Michel and Sontje and time went so fast we only wish we had stayed for longer! Unfortunately we had other commitments but we hope to visit again. There is plenty of work to do and things to learn around the Vegetable farm with Michel and even more stuff back around the house/property with Wibke. There’s plenty of projects which means there’s a big variety of work and something for everyone to keep you entertained. It was our first host we have had with other ‘workawayers’ staying there at the same time, and we enjoyed the social aspect and getting to meet other travellers while we were there. However there was a workawayer who didn’t really like the work and decided to leave early which was very unfair on our hosts, so a due reminder to make sure you keep to your commitments to be fair for everyone. Wibke and Michel are so kind and helpful and made our stay very enjoyable. There’s a nice lake and castle ruins within walking distance for afternoon walks, and it’s an easy train up to Hanover or down to Goslar which were both nice to visit on days off.

Frances & Douglas - we areally appreciate you guys! Thank you for opening your home garden, and general space to us. We really enjoyed our month that we spent here at the beautiful Moss Beach doing all sorts of stuff - weeding, gardening, painting, and doing other small but important tasks. The volunteering tasks were not hard at all! Very enjoyable to set your mind off of general life business, recharge your batteries, and see the beauty of your hand work. We loved the fact that we were given complete freedom regarding task management and we could build our schedule around our wishes and needs. Also, Moss Beach is a perfect place to be - close enough to the big city life (SF being only 25min drive away), but also secluded enough to enjoy some more quiet sea-side life and nature all around. Overall, we give this Workaway experience & the hosts 10000 out of 10 :-) We loved it a lot and would be happy to go back if life ever blows us in that direction again!

My stay with Gerry was super interesting and I feel like I learned a year worth of knowledge in a week. I've experienced Gerry as super willing to share facts on edible plants, ecosystem restoration technics like biochar, sharing some new recipes, telling about the history of the beautiful and magical places in the Boyne Valley, and in general about Ireland. Gerry provided me with lots of opportunities to experience new things that I never did before, like attending a Shamanic journey with drumming and guided meditation, working with the bees in the garden, taking me to a local market to have some talks with some stand holders, and something special to break your boundaries that I'll keep a surprise for any Workawayers going over in the future. He showed gratitude towards the work I did and also made sure that I wouldn't overdo my hours and energy on the day that I was working. Thanks for this wonderful experience Gerry, I'm happy that you put your profile live on Workaway because you have a lot to share in return for the help that you receive. Thanks for letting me stay in your home and all the good talks and sharing. I can highly recommend staying with you!

We were very fortunate to have Lucas stay with us for a productive week.  Among many things, he is a wonderful and considerate guest, a diligent, thoughtful and hard worker, an engaging and interesting companion; just a really nice person.  We very much enjoyed our days and evenings together, learning about life in Finland and sharing  stories and experiences.  We were so impressed with his many culinary, creative and business projects that he has found time to do over the years on top of his schooling. Lucas is truly interested in people, nature, food, culture and other people’s experiences.   Lucas worked on a number of projects during the week, mostly having to do with land restoration, trail making, weeding, manual dirt work/digging/hauling and creating new planting beds.  He has a lot of relevant experience and an excellent work ethic.  He worked independently, was always present and focused and willing to do more.   We could go on and on but suffice it to say, Lucas was a pleasure to have around, he is a lovely person and we hope to meet him again someday

With Alice so much heart, warmth and laughter moved into our place! She is honest and authentic and literally keeps the door open to connect;) . It was like living together with a friend. Alice is a great cook, although she might be too shy to admit it. She has a big heart for cats and they just love her! Alice never gave up building our pasture-fences,even if it was frustrating to put down the old ones or if it was raining, hot or windy. Thanks to her our cattles enjoy grasing this year again!!! Also she was a great help with the first preparation-tasks in the veggie-garden. Alice volunteered to stay up with me two night-shifts and helped me with the delivering of the calves. There was one complicated birth and one we just had to take care of mom and baby afterwards. She really gave me the feeling, that there is someone else for support, someone to count on! It is hard to tell, when I was laughing the last time that much with somebody over weeks... Alice is a very special person, not only because of her green eyes;) . You are always welcome back here and I do hope so,we will meet again. May your free spirit gr/low! :)

Edward and Ingrid were such a joy to stay with! It was my first Workaway experience and they couldn't have been nicer towards me. I learned a lot from working on the station, and really enjoyed the coffee breaks we shared together. I'm excited to see everything finished as they truly deserve the best. The basement can take some getting used too, but Ingrid provided me with the best heated blanket, and the bed is super comfy which makes sleeping that much easier. If they have time, Edward and Ingrid will show you around the beautiful place of Ballenstedt, and those are my best memories from my trip!
