    Located just 40 minutes from Darwin and within walking distance to Berry Springs, Territory Wildlife Park, IGA, doctor, pharmacy, and a popular country tavern, our sanctuary is surrounded by incredible tourism attractions. Whether you want to swim in our big pool or the nearby Berry Springs, there’s something for everyone!

    What We Offer:

    Nature and Camping: Camp under the stars near our pool or stay in our outback-style accommodations if available. Enjoy the beautiful surroundings and the peaceful environment.
    Tourist Attractions: Explore local attractions like Berry Springs and Territory Wildlife Park.
    Convenient Location: Close to essential amenities and a charming country tavern.
    Pick-Up Service: We can pick you up from your hostel or the airport for your convenience.

    Volunteer and Stay:

    Short-Term Stays: Campers can stay for just one night without any work commitment if you make a food donation from our local produce store to support our rescue donkeys, roosters, chicken, ducks, geese and parrots.
    Animal Care: Help care for our playful and cuddly donkeys, rescued roosters, ducks, and geese. We are also creating a natural conservation area for Burdekin ducks.

    How to Get Involved:

    Volunteering: We have various HelpX positions available for those with skills in animal husbandry, weeding, mowing, fencing, painting, and gardening.
    Contributions: Any support, whether it's volunteering or food donations, is greatly appreciated.

    Please let me know which of the following options would interest you:

    1. House and pet sitting
    Time frame: The next available position will be from the 9.-19.6.2024, however you can come before this time and stay longer.
    Days: Every Day/week when the host is way
    Hours: Approximately 2 hours in the morning & 2 hours in the late afternoon.
    Pool and house access: 24 hours
    Food: I can supply basic food items to support you if you are staying for a month.
    Deliveries: You can order food online from Woolworth's and get it delivered to our door which is a great solution for a rural property like ours.
    Requirements: You need to have experience in pet care (especially for our small cute dogs, 3 house rabbits and 4 parrots) and be able to be at home all the time when your host is away. I can teach you how to feed and clean the parrots.
    My 83 year old mother is living in the other side of the house and would appreciate if you could bring her some already prepared food items out of the fridge. I can prepare everything. Otherwise she doesn't need help
    Recommendation: Start 7.00 am before it is getting hot and you can jump in the pool when everything is done :-)

    2. Improving our guest areas (stay at least 2 days if you are camping - start flexible)
    Have a good taste and ideas how to make our outback style facilities more practical & outback stylish.
    Time frame: Stay at least 2 days if you are camping. Stay at least for a week if you require accommodation.
    Hours: If you are camping with your own gear: approximately 2 hours in the morning & 1 hour in the late afternoon/evening.
    Days: 5 days/week. Please confirm with the host on which days you plan to have no duties.
    If you require accommodation: approximately 2 hours in the morning & 2 hours in the late afternoon.
    Recommendation: Start 7.00 am before it is getting hot and you can jump in the pool when everything is done :-)
    Pool access: 10 am-10pm
    Food: I can supply basic food items to support you if you are staying for a month.

    3. Building animal shelters (stay at least 2 days if you are camping - start flexible)
    Have a good taste and ideas how to make our facilities more practical & stylish.
    Time frame: Stay at least 2 days if you are camping. Stay at least for a week if you require accommodation.
    Hours: If you are camping with your own gear: approximately 2 hours in the morning & 1 hour in the late afternoon/evening.
    Days: 5 days/week. Please confirm with the host on which days you plan to have no duties.
    If you require accommodation: approximately 2 hours in the morning & 2 hours in the late afternoon.

    4. Planting, watering, weeding and gardening
    You will be responsible for improving our gardens. Ask the host for details and make suggestions how to created better natural environments.
    Time frame: Stay at least 2 days if you are camping. Stay at least for a week if you require accommodation.
    Hours: If you are camping with your own gear: approximately 2 hours in the morning & 1 hour in the late afternoon/evening.
    Days: 5 days/week but please confirm with another volunteer to water the plants in the meantime. (7 days/week just to water the plants and we have no other volunteers to look after them.) Please confirm with the host on which days you plan to have no duties.
    Recommendation: Start 7.00 am before it is getting hot and you can jump in the pool when everything is done :-)
    If you require accommodation: approximately 2 hours in the morning & 2 hours in the late afternoon.
    Pool access: 10 am-10pm

    4. Animal Care
    You will be responsible for giving the animals food and water and keeping the enclosures clean. Be aware that we have time schedules for this.
    Time frame: Stay at least 2 days if you are camping. Stay at least for a week if you require accommodation.
    5 days/week but please confirm with another the host and another Animal Care volunteer to care for the animals in the meantime. (7 days/week if we have no other volunteers to look after them.)

    A general note for long term volunteers: We are a team and need always someone on the property. Please confirm with the other volunteers who will be home so that our animals are never alone when it comes to an emergency. Usually the host or house & pet sitter will be at home. Good communication is very important.
